!"#$"%&'#('($)*++,%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%-*./%01)+,#%Call of Duty has been the cen

ter of video game controversy for years now, due to its extremely violent plot and its emphasis on rampant carnage, heinous acts of destruction, and malicious killing. The game series franchise has been associated with promoting various themes of warfare and mass murder but until recently it has been referred to as a critical variable in the case of Elizabeth Robinson, a thirteenyearold “gamer girl” who had been gaming for years without much excitement until another fellow gamer named Dylan solicited her. According to ABC News, Elizabeth claimed she hit it off immediately with Dylan, and their relationship quickly escalated from Call of Duty to leaving each other multiple voicemails and text messages. Elizabeth was determined to take her relationship with twelveyearold Dylan to the next level, and in order to accomplish that she knew she had to meet him in person. Elizabeth stole her brother’s car and proceeded to set off on a 900mile journey from Cypress, Texas to Hodgenville, Tennessee. The Robinsons woke up Thurs

phone behind. Elizabeth’s parents went through all of her text messages and voicemails, becoming more alarmed by her journey to meet “Dylan” – a faceless gamer with unknown intentions. The Robinsons’ biggest fear dwelled on the idea of a potential kidnapping. “Could she be abducted, could someone lure her into their vehicle, could they get into hers?” Beth Robinson said, crying. “If anything like that would have happened I would have been devastated.”While Elizabeth’s mother was

back in Texas, with limited resources except Elizabeth’s phone to track her down, Elizabeth was getting closer and closer to her longawaited encounter with Dylan. Robbie Robinson, however, decided to trail his daughter’s 900mile journey and gathered hope from the news of her declined ATM card that had been used at a gas station in Hope, Arkansas. Elizabeth was all out of money by the time she made it to Arkansas, but a few strangers gave her enough money to continue her journey until she ran out of gas again this time in Nashville, Tennessee. Luckily, a state trooper was aware that she was a runaway, and stopped her on the road at 10:24AM – with only 130 miles left in her journey until she would meet Dylan. The authorities claimed that

Elizabeth was nervous and scared when they stopped her. When Rob/$#&0-/$12-1&31(445& %#)1$!#'&6$!"&his daughter, she only had one re

GoDaddy, the prodigious webhosting company, went down last Monday and with its demise, it disturbed an unknown amount of other websites as well. The hacker has remained anonymous, and is currently using Twitter as an outlet to publicize what he or she plans to do with the website. The hacker is associated with a group called “Anonymous,” and the group accused GoDaddy of supporting Internet censorship. The webhacking abolitionist

group has tackled other websites for supporting Internet censorship as well as child pornography, but this hack in particular proved to be the most controversial. Mashable, a technology blog further questioned the anonymous hacker’s motives

for usurping control of the site. The hacker has adopted the username @AnonymousOwn3r as a username, and replied to Mashable with “I’m taking godaddy down bacause (sic) well i’d like to test how the cyber security is safe and for more reasons that i can not talk now.” Clearly AnonymousOwn3r needs to touch up on his grammar and spelling before he decides to mess with according to GoDaddy, “the largest hosting provider of secure websites in the world.”The trickiest aspect of this situ

ation is that any domain registered with GoDaddy is also down. Mashable explains that “even if you host your site elsewhere, using GoDaddy for DNS means it is inaccessible.” A few of SUNY Potsdam’s clubs are currently affected by the web attack, such as The WAIH (campus radio) and The Racquette

(campus newspaper). Websites hosted by these clubs cannot be accessed due to their domains registered with GoDaddy. GoDaddy, who claims they host

53 million domain names, has attested to the outage on Twitter but has yet to comment on the exact cause of the issue. “Status Alert: Hey, all. We’re aware of the trouble people are having with our site. We’re working on it,” GoDaddy said. The company has also apologized for any inconveniences to their users. On Monday, the website showed

some signs of restoration but they are still “working feverishly” on some of the unresolved kinks. According to CBS news, the website is back on but the websites hosted by GoDaddy are still encountering web issues.

Music shrieking in your ears? Laughter making you cringe? The sound of banging from above putting fear into your still beating heart? Yep, I know exactly what’s wrong my friends. You are the victim of dorm mates from Hell. Okay, so your dorm mates are probably not from Hell. Actually, most of them are probably from Long Island or from places unknown to you in this vast state. Believe me, you may think you’re from a wellknown part of this state but even when I mention West Point half of the people on this campus have no idea what or where it is. Anyway, back to the topic at hand. If you

have the following symptoms then I may be able to help you: anxiety, stress, headaches, fear of loud music, hatred of loud banging doors and shrilly laughter. All of this leads me to the diagnosis of you hating your dorm. Either that, or you’re a really anxious/stressed hungover college student. Most likely, though, you are just experiencing a new environment that is college dorming. College kids newly away from home or just

returning college students usually love that new or already experienced feeling of being able to blare their music at ungodly hours of the early morning (ergo: When it’s three in the morning and you want to be asleep). It’s not just having that freedom, it’s also being in such a close environment, where you can visit your neighbors for as long as you want and never have to fear a long walk or drive home. Combine all this with the college kid’s love of eating sugar until really late at night, and not really caring +0%-)$)"#$12#+1#1$&2#/"3+4$'&)##4$-4).5$.)6/$)%%$late, equals a really rambunctious environment to live in.

My advice to you my friends may or may not work I’m not a miracle worker, but I will try to help you out as I myself suffer from these symptoms. One: Go to your RA. Yeah, I know that will

probably not happen. After all, the mentality of most people is not to become a snitch. But as my mother would say, if you’re not going to complain, then you better suffer in silence. I don’t want to hear it if you won’t help yourself. That’s right, you have to be willing to help

yourself and better your environment or else you’ll just continue to be a really anxious, stressed, and bitter, bitter person. Please don’t become bitter, it will not help

you and your roommate get along. Two: Actually ask the people making noise

to be a little bit quieter yourself. Sometimes showing that you can communicate with others in a nice manner will make others communicate nicely with you, too. Telling the people in your dorm that you need to study or are trying to go to sleep will actually get you somewhere, unless your dorm mates are rude inconsiderate people…..Oh wait, then you wouldn’t be reading this. Just tell them how you feel and sometimes, people will actually listen and try to be quieter or more considerate when it comes to nighttime in dorms.Three: If you really don’t want to speak up

and tell anyone about your problem or confront your problem, don’t start wallowing in selfpity yet. I have a few more things that can help you. Get cotton. Stuff said cotton in your ear. Then voila! You have a new notsosexy fashion accessory that will help block noise. (Really, don’t forget to take the cotton out of your ears the next morning or you will be getting some

odd looks well, except from me I’ll just be happy knowing you read this opinion.)You can also download some soothing music

onto your iPod. Put in those ear buds, set it on low and zone out with the swaying music of a rain forest in your ear. Don’t forget to put the music on low or else you might not wakeup when your alarm goes off. Of course, your alarm could wake up your roommate and then your angry roommate could wake up you. Whichever works for you best. Remember most of all to relax. Take a walk

and try and tire yourself out before you go to your dorm. When you’re tired it’s easier to ignore all the crazy surrounding you and just fall asleep. Going to a friend’s room might help, but they could be in the same boat as you. After all, most college dorms are like a reenactment of the movie Animal House. Go and watch that if you haven’t. It’s funny and at least it will entertain you and relax you a little. After all, laughter is the best medicine.I’m sorry if none of my advice works, but

I did say I don’t work miracles all the time. Please, though, if you haven’t taken anything from this article, at least take in the part about relaxing. Take a few breaths. Join Yoga. Join a club that will make you laugh and keep you sane. Call home and complain to a friend. Let it all out. Don’t bottle it in. You might end up exploding at your roommate and that won’t help matters at all. Relax. Breathe. Laugh. Anna Nalick knew what she was talking about. Just Breathe.

Loud dorms gettin’ you down?

7$8%-51$5.9#$)%$0#:.4$)"./$%;.4.%4$0<$'2/)$stating that I don’t have a problem with skateboarders. I like skateboards as a concept they’re fast, convenient, easily portable, and can save a lot of time. And I like a lot of skateboarders; they pick their board up when it’s too crowded and they actually pay attention to what they’re doing, since technically they’re operating a vehicle. Instead, my problem is with idiots on skateboards. You all know who I mean. Those people who

cruise down a crowded sidewalk at 40 miles an hour on their long board and almost run into about eight people and act like they didn’t just almost commit a spree. Those people who give you dirty looks because you dare to stay on the sidewalk instead of allowing them and their board to shunt you off into the grass and dirt like a common cow so they can continue on down the center of the path. Those people who, in a packed hallway, use their long board like a shield to push through crowds of people like it’s a medieval battle. Or, my favorite, those people who actually do run into you and then,

as you attempt to staunch your bloody nose, act like its your fault you basically just experienced a smaller version of being hit by a car, because we all want to know what that feels like. So this is what I have to say to those people.Stop it.No amount of wool parkas or khakis and

converse will make you cool on your long board if you can’t use it right. If you don’t know how to control your board, the very last thing you should do is venture out at 12:50 into throngs of innocent bystanders. I don’t appreciate it when you scoot past me going roughly the speed of a galloping horse and I feel the wind of your passage hit my face, indicating that you came within an inch of colliding with me. I used to ride my bike to school, and I always made sure to A) ride on the less crowded side walks, B) get off and walk my bike if it was too crowded, and C) not ride down the very middle of the sidewalk like I’m the queen of England and all the peasants need to clear out of my way. Also, a friend of mine witnessed someone kick their skateboard down a hill where it

proceeded to hit the legs of a girl at the bottom. Who does this? Stop it!In closing, I would again like to reiterate that

/9+)#0%+21/$=5%4:>0%+21/?$+2#$'4#@$7&$<%-62#$smart about it, and don’t act like a total jerk and are aware of other people in existence, I am totally cool with that. But, if you are veering wildly around on your board like you just took some ecstasy or you ARE ACTUALLY TEXTING while screaming at the speed of light (or even just moseying along at a casual speed) down the sidewalk, I hate you. I hate you forever. I can’t begin to tell you how many times I have resisted the urge to shove some doofus off his board as he passes me because he’s texting, or only just managed to veer away from me at )"#$5+/)$/#(%41$0#(+-/#$"#$(%-5146)$':-2#$%-)$how to turn right. How to Vote: The Facts You Need to Know

There has been a lot of talk around campus and in the nation about the presidential election and voting. Voting is extremely important, especially since this is a critical election year. If you want to register to vote here in Potsdam and you live on campus, you must list the residence hall room in which you live as the address where you live on

You also need to provide the last four digits of your social security number or your license number on the form. Lastly, you need to sign the form in order to be registered. Once you are registered, you will get a voter registration card in the mail before Election Day. On November 6th, if you live on campus, you will go to the polling place at the Old Snell Building on Elm Street. If you live off campus, you can look up your polling place online or it will be on your voter ID card. Why would you vote in Pots

/0$%1$'2$3$3)4,56"-7)*

At a school with such a large music program, it should come as no surprise that SUNY Potsdam has its very own record label “Madstop Records.” Their mission is to educate Potsdam students about recording and production, as well

as the process of putting on a live show and recording albums. Madstop is responsible for

some of the wellknown events on campus, including “Battle of the Bands”. “It’s a three week, three round competition,” said Presi4$&#( 3&4(/?@(A3B!4(C*D3&*<"8!.(“There’s usually a good turnout and the winner gets a prize.”

The group is also out there to help students get business and industry experience, including how to run and operate a recording studio. They also record and produce recordings with SUNY Potsdam performers. Last semester they produced an album with Becki Walnez, a trumpet player and a graduate student.

This semester, Madstop will be producing a live show on September 29th, featuring a “KT Experience” reunion in Dunn Theater. Admission to the event will be free to the public. To be a part of Madstop, no previous experience is needed and all majors are welcome. “There’s lots of real world experi$&2$9E( "3!4( /+3%0!$( F$4$%$%9( 0!B$(

What’s In Your Closet?

().7$%%'F&8%E9$##'A*"9)*

Let’s talk about Fashion Week’s fall trends this season. My alltime favorite is cozy pattern sweaters. Mix your sweater with patterned pants or a scarf to make that extra layered look. Remember patterns can be paired together any way you want this season; just stick with the same color scheme.

Something that was a hot commodity on the runway for Fashion Week was embellished collars, detachable and sewin. Find this embellished piece at your favorite store to add to those plain tops or sweaters. Black is back and strong, so add this back into your closet any way you can with accessories, nail polish, tights or your favorite articles of clothing. If you aren’t into black, go for that sailor away

navy blue. When choosing your accessories, whether it be shoes or handbags, steer towards this statement look. Find those pointy heels to add to your collection, and as the bags go designs and wild statements are hitting the shelves also this season. Now that we are off to a trendy start this fall, let those leaves fall and layer away!

Want to create good habits for yourself? Scientists agree it takes about three weeks. A few tips: Start small. Be consistent. Commit to it. Don’t quit. Let a friend know what you’re doing so they can help encourage you.

How about this one? When you want soda, try drinking water or 100% juice

instead. Eventually, you may even break the craving you feel for soda when you eat, as lots of cravings are tied to particular activites, i.e wanting to smoke after dinner, or having

dessert after a big meal.

Have you thought about your posture lately? Taking a look around campus I’ve notice that quite a few people have amazing posture. Kudos to you all! The rest of us however, our posture doesn’t seem to be a topic of concern (me included). So I’ve been thinking about this quite a bit lately: What’s the point in standing or sitting up straight? I think slouching is comfortable and besides, it’s easy. Say what? Improving your posture is easy too? And it’s good for you? Get out of town. When you’re sitting in class, or
