• Inform the prospective applicant of the types of work radiographers do
• Show the prospective applicant some of the equipment they may expect to work with
3
Responsibilities of a Radiographer

• Provide top quality images for the physician to use in diagnosing
• Send completed images to PACS archiving system
• Complete patient tracking and charges in computer system

Responsibilities of a Radiographer
• Educate the patient about preparations for exams as necessary
• Formulate exposure techniques to minimize patient’s radiation dose yet produce optimal images
• Practice radiation safety for patients, self, and co-workers

Diagnostic & General Radiography
6
Diagnostic & General Radiography
• Exposure factors are set on a control panel
• The patient is positioned • X-rays pass through the
patient and are collected on an image receptor (IR)
• Image is digitized and displayed on a monitor

Fluoroscopy
• Often we do a specialized form of live view X-ray called Fluoroscopy
• Frequently this calls for the administration of contrast to better visualize structures
• The radiologist operates the equipment, we prepare materials and assist the doctor
• Often we take X-ray images when the doctor is finished
