Benefits of a Rangecast System

Pool scannersYou can pool your 22 scanners amongst everyone at the company. Those scanners sitting in front of one chair at the assignment desk, and at the remote locations in Springfield, Xenia (and possibly Piqua), can be monitored by anyone at any desk at the office, at home, on the road or anywhere in the world. All you need is a web browser to listen. No longer does just one person have access and control of the scanners. Now everyone and anyone does!

Benefits of a Rangecast System

Personal Set-upEveryone can configure what they want to listen to without affecting anyone else. If one reporter wants to listen to Dayton PD East but a photographer wants to only listen to Montgomery Sheriff, it doesn’t matter. One person’s channel settings (on/off/hold) does not affect another’s. Because each user is “filtering” rather than “controlling” the scanners there is no concern of channels being shut off by one staffer that another staffer desires to monitor. If there’s ever a need to physically hold the scanner on a channel or re-program a channel, one staffer can be tasked with that ability.

Benefits of a Rangecast System

Use at Home, Office or On the RoadBecause Rangecast is browser based and does not require any special software, each reporter, photographer, videographer and editor can use Rangecast at his desk at the office, at home, or on the road with a laptop . . . Anywhere in Ohio or around the world. We are developing cell-based mobile apps for Rangecast but release dates are uncertain.

Benefits of a Rangecast System

Time Shifting With Rangecast you can “Go Back in Time” and listen to communications that were missed, a moment ago or hours or even days ago. With this technology you can easily jump back to the genesis of an event –the first fire dispatch to get a street address that was missed for example or the reason for a call for the SWAT team to a building perhaps- to gather critical information for a story.

Benefits of a Rangecast System

Scanner ClarityWith Rangecast you can set up scanners wherever you want and have them accessible to anyone anywhere. A huge benefit to this is that you can set up your scanners at your remote offices for the best reception possible of those areas. No longer will you simply hope for good reception for outlying cities and counties. Now you can set up scanners in those areas and know reception will be great for all.

Benefits of a Rangecast System

Scanner Stability & IntegrityAt newsrooms around the country one assignment desk editor will decide he wants to lockout or delete certain channels that the next editor or reporter wants to listen to. Or he or she simply presses keys trying to hold or scan and ends up completely disabling thescanner or important channels in the scanner. With Rangecast no one needs to touch the scanners. They simply are to be left alone and everyone in the office listens to the channels they want with the easy to use web browser player.*

Benefits of a Rangecast System

System PauseNeed to take a break or a phone call? Simply press the pause key and no transmissions will be missed. They’ll queue up and wait for your return.

Transmission SkipWant to skip over unimportant transmissions and not hear them in their entirety? Simplypress the Skip key at anytime.

Benefits of a Rangecast System

Transmission Clip & SaveClip and save a single transmission or sequence of transmissions and e-mail them.

Event Record & SaveSave an event such as a chase to a channel for later review and comment.

Web Site IntegrationIncorporate a custom profile (with limited functionality) on your company web site to draw traffic and keep them there with 24-hour live access to the news as it happens!

Benefits of a Rangecast System

Audio BlogsReporters and others can post audio blogs about stories they are developing or post follow-up information in audio form. Readers/viewers/listeners can hear their favorite reporters post notes about stories at any time of the day and play back a sequence of reports just like scanner transmissions. All the reporter needs is a microphone connected

Benefits of a Rangecast System

Scanner Simplicity!Never before have advanced scanners been so easy to operate! Now anyone can run a Rangecast web page and listen to exactly what they want to hear with about 5 minutes of training.

Pricing for a Secure Hub System

A Secure Hub system prevents another Rangecast entity from importing the Dayton content into their own players/profiles without permission. (Rangecast and its representatives may use a temporary log-in for demonstration purposes.)

Corporate Rangecast SystemFor Internal Use Only: 22-24 Scanners with up to access up to 25 staffers $500/month or $5000 prepaid per year prepaid in advance.

Public Web Site Implementation + Corporate Rangecast System

To Embed a Player (one profile) into either one or all three of the media web sites: $1250/month; $13,500 pre-paid per year.

Benefits of a Secure Hub System

Provides all benefits of Rangecast Corporate, plus this will allow for hundreds of users online at one time with the following limitations:

• Limited Go Back (your discretion) – recommend 30 to 60 minutes

• Inability to create profiles – They get the one screen that’s presented to them

• Limited Channels – Company decides which channels to give them access to (36 max)

• Optional Limit of time users may remain online before they are dropped -must log in again

Benefits of a Secure Hub System

Benefits to Your Customers• Provides a real-time window into the news, live as it

happens• Compelling, action-packed, feature that will keep

customers glued to the Company web site(s).

Benefits to Company• Ability to embed player on a page filled with ads• Ability to embed audio ads in audio stream (revenue

share with Rangecast)• Ability to build other web features around the player

such as a crime-scene locator, most-wanted lists, etc.

Proposed System

The combined company has 22 BCD996T scanners already which will work with Rangecast. (Possibly consider buying 2 BCD996XT scanners for Ohio State Patrol optimal reception.)

4 scanners in Xenia (covering southeast and south)4 scanners in Springfield (covering northeast)2 scanners in Piqua (if possible to cover north/northwest regions)12 scanners in Dayton to cover Dayton/Montgomery County (and areas to the west)

Specific purposing of scanners to be determined with staff.

Proposed System

MultiSync TechnologyWith Rangecast’s Multi-sync technology we would program, for example, all 12 Dayton scanners with the exact same frequencies and trunking talkgroups. As one scanner receives, for instance, Dayton PD East, it alerts all the other radios to ignore that channel. In this manner we insure an extraordinarily high percentage of coverage of radio traffic in the region.

Proposed System

Optional On-Site Installation, Testing & TrainingWhile we are sure that the company’s IT staff can handle the system installation if so desired, but having our team on-site we will insure a timely and smooth transition and installation (working in concert with your IT staff) and we will also provide testing and training. We will also handle all scanner programming which does require inclusion ofspecial Geo-coding tags in the alpha memory of the scanners for optimal Rangecast performance. Rangecast will also bring temporary scanners to be used during the one to two day transition of your current scanners to the new system.

Proposed System

Installation/Testing/Training Price: $5000 - 7500 -Depending on whether two or three staffers, one site for three days, including travel time but not including airfare/hotel/car rental costs). Number of staffers required to be determined after further discussion with client.

Using Rangecast

SUGGESTIONS FOR EXPLORING THE RANGECAST LIVE DEMO

MONITOR WORLDWIDE AT ONCE: Observe that you are monitoring real-time radio traffic from multiple locations - in this case, California, Nevada, Minnesota, Massachusetts, and even Japan. Rangecast lets you simultaneously monitor multiple channels broadcasting anywhere in the world.

HEAR EVERYTHING ON MULTIPLE CHANNELS: Observe that Rangecast makes monitoring large numbers of channels comfortable and efficient. Rangecast plays all transmissions one after another, even if they happened at the same time. "Talk-over" cannot occur.

SUGGESTIONS FOR EXPLORING THE RANGECAST LIVE DEMO

SELECT CHANNELS FOR RECEPTION: Turn one or more channels on (green) and off (red) by pressing the buttons marked in these colors. Note that traffic will play if it matches any selected criteria, so for example, the Concord MA fire department will be heard if either 'MA’ (Massachusetts') or 'Fire' is selected.

MOVE THROUGH TIME: Try clicking on an earlier time along the 'time bar', the gray strip marked with clock times. Observe that you will hear earlier transmissions, starting at the time you have selected. Rangecast stores all communications, and makes it possible to monitor content recorded hours or days in the past, in a way that is seamlessly integrated with real-time monitoring of the same channels.

SUGGESTIONS FOR EXPLORING THE RANGECAST LIVE DEMO

FOCUS ON ONE CHANNEL: Try using the 'HOLD on one channel' feature to see how you would focus on a single broadcast channel of interest. To focus on an active channel, click on the large text box (where you see the identity of the current transmission being monitored.) The box will turn orange while in HOLD. Then click at an earlier time in the time bar, and you will hear recent traffic on only this one channel. This is particularly useful when starting to monitor an ongoing incident.

SUGGESTIONS FOR EXPLORING THE RANGECAST LIVE DEMO

SEE SOME OTHER RANGECAST CONFIGURATIONS: Try clicking on a link within the Rangecast player (buttons with yellow tops) to observe other player configurations. The CHANNELS link takes you to a screen that shows activity on 90 individual channels from across the world - with every channel having its own selection button. This is unlike the entry page, which for simplicity groups channels by geography or function. The NV-PAGE link takes you to an agency interconnect page available for use by public safety agencies in Nevada. To return from another page, use the BACK button in the Rangecast player (not the browser).

SUGGESTIONS FOR EXPLORING THE RANGECAST LIVE DEMO

LISTEN TO A RECORDED EVENT: Some links can take you to 'archives' of prerecorded content. Try clicking on the LAUNCH button to hear radio communications traffic at the Kennedy Space Center archived during a space shuttle launch. Similarly, the SSCC button takes you to an archive from a car race. Listening to an archive, you have far more control than would be provided by an ordinary recording. Within these archives, note that you can easily control your position in time, and select specific channels for close observation. Rangecast provides a new and powerful way to preserve and present audio for later analysis.

SUGGESTIONS FOR EXPLORING THE RANGECAST LIVE DEMO

TALK ON THE RANGECAST SYSTEM: You can talk into the Rangecast system from your PC. Press SEND, and channels authorized for user-generated content will be shown in orange. Click the TALKNET channel to start and stop a recording from your PC microphone. Your content will be recorded and available to all users on the Rangecast Live Demo. You will hear your own recording, but not necessarily immediately, since transmissions waiting for playback on other channels may be heard before your transmission is next in sequence.
