The Rasmussen Group was fortunate enough to acquire CSI from the Gillotti Companies in 2008, and we were back in the ready-mix concrete world. With the help of talented professionals; fantastic plant managers, drivers and administrative staff; and the best dispatch in the state, CSI (and now CIRM) thrived. We provided a superior product and excellent customer service, and ran safely and efficiently. We were thrilled to be in a position to purchase American Concrete, and we look forward to continuing to grow by the same values that got us this far. This acquisition has added 19 ready-mix plants located in central and western Iowa, and we now have the ability to produce and sell over 1-million cubic yards of ready-mix concrete this year. That is exciting, and we are pleased to welcome our new team members. The forecast for 2017 looks as strong as last year’s, and we are hoping the opportunities for infrastructure work increase soon. Some highlights at the time of this writing: > Grimes Asphalt received the Polk County Asphalt Contract for the second time (60,000 tons of asphalt). > CSI-Omaha finished the fiscal year with a new record of over 200,000 cubic yards—this is impressive in their third year of operation in the Greater-Omaha area. > Jensen has received four contracts to build bridges in Des Moines and Chariton and continues building in Oklahoma and Arkansas. > I attended both the JMT and CIRM Driver Trainer sessions. Dave Webb and Kelly Sears discussed some exciting new initiatives that will be implemented this year and will help keep us ahead of the curve. I enjoyed the discussion, and I am very proud of all our trainers and drivers. > I am also happy that I could celebrate with our graduates of the Freedom From Smoking program. Thank you Jessica for all the strides made in our Wellness Program. I would like to welcome back all our Team Members who have been on lay-off. Letter from the President

The latest big news for the Rasmussen Group is the purchase of American Concrete, with whom we have a long history, from Oldcastle Materials. Many of our long-standing CIRM employees worked for American Concrete in the past, and others of you came to us from American Concrete more recently. We would like to welcome our new employees to the Rasmussen Group companies. For those of you who don’t know the history, I offer this condensed version. I acted as President of Old Castle Materials, which operated American Concrete, from 2002 to 2006. I thoroughly enjoyed learning about the ready-mix concrete business and meeting and working with the employees of American Concrete. In 2006, I returned to the Rasmussen Group.

This seems to me to be a bipartisan issue that all parties should agree upon, but I know I am biased. Some highlights at the time of this writing:

> Grimes Asphalt received the Polk County Asphalt Contract for the second time (60,000 tons of asphalt).

I enjoyed

the discussion, and I am very proud of all our trainers and drivers.

> I am also happy that I could celebrate with our graduates of the Freedom From Smoking program. Thank you Jessica for all the strides made in our Wellness Program.

I would like to welcome back all our Team Members who have been on lay-off. I hope all of you have rested up and had some fun over the winter. Be safe, work hard, and be proud of the excellent work you do. We sure are.

Sincerely,President

Wellness

On March 22nd this year, The Rasmussen Group’s second tobacco cessation class graduated from the American Lung Association’s eight-week Freedom from Smoking program. This class was led by the Rasmussen Group’s Wellness Coordinator, Jessica Sheets. Over the course of the workshop, Jessica worked with participants to create a plan and develop manageable goals to help them quit smoking, and stay quit. Congratulations to Scott Baker, Brian Gray, and Matt Linthicum on their accomplishment! All three graduates work for Central Iowa Ready Mix.

Q: What are the start and end dates of the Work Well program?

A: The Work Well program runs October 1st through September 30th each year.

Q: Do I have to register on the Wellness Center portal every year?

A: No. Once you have registered on the Wellness Center portal, you do not have to do it again.

Q: What activities must be completed before my gift card will redeem?

A: In order for your first gift card to redeem:

• Both the ADA Notice and the Work Well Waiver in the First Things First section of the Wellness Center Rewards page must be read and checked as DONE.

• Your Wellness Assessment must be completed.

• You must have completed a company health screening last Fall, or you need to receive an annual physical exam with your doctor.

Q: How long does it take to receive a gift card in the mail after it is redeemed?

A: It usually takes about 3 to 4 weeks for gift cards to arrive in the mail.

Q: If I am not on The Rasmussen Group’s company health insurance, can I still participate in the Work Well program?

A: Yes, you can participate, but because you are not on the health insurance, you do not have a Wellmark member ID under The Rasmussen Group. THREE-TURBINE CONSTRUCTION PROJECT COMPLETEDJensen Crane has recently

completed a three-turbine construction project for a local group of investors here in Iowa. The project consisted of two turbines near Clearfield and a single tower just South of Anita. Jensen Crane supplied a four-man crew lead by Scott Mowery. Jamie Rogers was the operator for the main crane, and Scott operated the tail crane. Tony Bush and Tony Hadan filled out the crew as riggers and forklift operators. The construction of the three GE 1.7 megawatt towers was done in partnership with Renew Energy supplying the up-tower crews. The towers themselves consist of three tower sections stacked on top of each other, the heaviest weighing 120,000 lbs. Then the nacelle, or machine head, was installed weighing 125,000 lbs. The three blades were installed on the ground into the hub and flown as one unit. That rotor weighed 125,000 lbs. Jensen Crane is looking forward to installing 10 to 30 more towers this year in Iowa, Minnesota, and Nebraska, along with the constant maintenance jobs that Jensen Crane performs throughout the year.

GRIMES ASPHALT

Grimes Asphalt is entering its 40th year of business in central Iowa. Contributing to its success are a hardworking, dedicated workforce with attention to employee safety, challenging jobs, a willingness to embrace changing technology, and a focus on quality and customer satisfaction.

2016 was a record-breaking year, and 2017 looks just as promising. Over the winter, estimators have been working hard to secure work for the 2017 season. A big workload is always a great way to start the season. Fortunately, a lot of work has been bidding, and we have been awarded many different projects: city, IDOT, county, and commercial.

Throughout the winter, equipment has been maintained and new equipment has been added to our immaculate fleet, ready to take on the toughest projects and challenges that asphalt paving produces.

Last year, our safety record was outstanding. And as we begin another new season, let’s continue all the successes of last year and again diligently make safety a constant choice of responsibility for one’s own health and that of those around us.

-Mike Yonker

With Spring always comes optimism and excitement. This year is no different. 2016 brought with it a lot of growth, and with that growth, came a lot of challenges. With the addition of one more belly dump, and the early indicators of a busy construction season, I expect 2017 to be the biggest and best year Central Iowa Trucking has ever had.

I can’t remember the last time I’ve been this excited to get the season started. There are several reasons for the excitement. We have a full slate of drivers, we have a great group of dedicated trainers, our dispatch department is fully staffed with experienced dispatchers, and we have been awarded several large jobs. These jobs consist of city, county, and state projects. If we have the majority of material on the jobs we have so far, it will be in excess of 400,000 ton. It is made up of subbase material, portable PCC & ACC plants, and nighttime milling on I-35 South of Ames. We are also looking forward to hauling 150,000-plus tons for Central Iowa Ready Mix following the acquisition of the ready mix plants from Old Castle. This couldn’t have happened at a better time. Shortly before the deal was done, we got the news from Martin Marietta that the multi-year hauling agreement we had with them was coming to an end after only one year. We went from thinking we needed to sell some belly dumps, to deciding to keep what we had and add one more.

It is the goal of our team to get better in all facets of our business: efficient service, communication, camaraderie, and safety. Safety has become priority #1 for all of the Rasmussen Group companies, and we are all going to continue our pursuit of zero incidents.

I will close with saying THANK YOU! First and foremost, thanks to a wonderful list of “Great” customers. Without them, we don’t have anything to work for. Secondly, thanks to the best group of drivers in the Central Iowa area. Without their hard work and dedication, we would not be able to deliver the level of service our customers have come to expect. Last, but not least, thanks to all of the support of The Rasmussen Group. It goes without saying that minus any of their contributions to the process, we couldn’t succeed like we do. Let’s have a safe and successful 2017! -Jeff Wangsness

In December, CIRM purchased 19 locations and 59 mixers from American Concrete in western and southern Iowa. We have already welcomed new team members onboard, and we look forward to building relationships with them and the customers in their communities. Through this process, we have met some great longtime employees who worked for American Concrete. This purchase gives us 22 plants, with 143 trucks in Iowa, and 2 plants with 35 trucks in Nebraska. The new locations will operate as Concrete Supply Industries (CSI) and proudly get new CSI logos.

This winter we have been busy repairing plants and working on equipment to get ready for the 2017 season. In 2016, we produced over 750,000 cubic yards in Iowa and Nebraska and look to exceed 1 million cubic yards in 2017.

Concrete Supply west of the river is on solid footing as we look forward to our fourth season delivering the best concrete to the Omaha-Council Bluffs market, setting our sights on growth while maintaining the quality of product and service we are known for.

With the 2017 season on the horizon, we took time recently as a company to thank our employees and their significant others for the hard work, long hours, and incredible dedication that has led to yet another record year of production. Tiburon Golf & Country Club hosted our luncheon, and we spent several hours looking back over 2016, sharing laughs and looking forward to the upcoming year. A special thank you to our wonderful Rasmussen Group corporate team for not only joining our get together, but also for the incredible support that helps make Concrete Supply a winning team.

Growth continues to be our goal, and our sales team has been busy pounding the pavement rounding up new customers and new jobs for 2017. We’ve captured Antler View Apartments, Elkhorn Elementary School, and Thrasher Building Systems, just to name a few. With this new yardage comes the need for new equipment. 2017 will see the addition of four new mixer trucks, bringing our fleet total to thirty-seven, with the best drivers in the industry behind the wheel.

We look forward to the new year and the challenges we will overcome and victories we will win. We’ve worked hard to put together a great team, and the fruits of our labor are evident not only in our numbers, but the exceptional team we call “Family” here. Working hard, playing even harder, and always - Enjoying the Good Life.

HALLETT MATERIALS

Spring is a wonderful time of year, especially if you are in the construction business. As the days grow longer everyone looks forward to getting back to work before the summer heat sets in. Even though we have experienced a winter lull here in the Houston area, we have been busy with many exciting things at Hallett Materials. I am proud to say that we were successful in securing another project location, about 50 miles east of our Porter Plant, which will insure many years of success in the Houston market. The new site is located along the Trinity River near the town of Hardin. Our new location strategically positions us closer to the industrial corridor of East Houston, and the ship channel, than any of our competition. We are also able to tap into new markets as we will be able to service

the areas surrounding Beaumont and Port Arthur. Hallett Materials, Texas Division was started in 1983, along a narrow stretch of river in San Felipe, Texas. Many changes have taken place in that time. It’s amazing to see how we’ve grown and what we have become since our humble beginnings, and as we move into the next chapter with our new location, we are excited to see what the future holds.

As many of our employees are returning to work, and we are all preparing for our busiest season, it is imperative that we remind ourselves of the importance of Pre-Trip Inspections when it comes to Safety.

Before you hit the road, remember to perform a vehicle safety inspection and check the following:

Outside the Vehicle:

• Windshield clean

• Windshield washer fluid reservoir full

• Side and rear glass clean

• Mirrors clean

• Headlights work (high and low beam)

• Tail lights work

• Brake lights work

• Tires show no slices, damage, or excessive wear

• Tires inflated to proper operating pressure

• Windshield wipers in good shape, not cracked or torn, and not stuck to windshield

• Storage compartments closed

• Tools and equipment stowed to prevent falling from vehicle during driving

Keep mirrors clean and tires at proper inflation pressure!

Under the Hood:

• Check engine oil level and

transmission fluid level

• Check coolant level (only when

engine is cool)

• Check brake fluid and power

steering fluid

• Check fan belt for cracks,

fraying, and tears

Inside the Vehicle:

• Windshield wipers function

• Windshield washer fluid activates

• Dash is clear of objects that could reflect or block field of vision

• Floorboard is clear of items that could obstruct feet/pedals during driving

• Inside of windshield and glass clean

• Seat belts function properly

• Engine starts and runs without excessive vibration or noise

• Scan gauges and dash for warning lights

• Fuel level full

Before Leaving:

• Verify no persons or objects are behind or beneath vehicle—Do a 360 degree walk-around of vehicle

• Adjust mirrors

• Adjust seat

• Know the safest route to destination

• Reduce distractions

• Lock doors

• Fasten seat belt

INSPECT LEAKS BEFORE THEY CAUSE A BREAKDOWN!

Safety is the most important reason you inspect your vehicle—safety for yourself and for other drivers on the road. A vehicle defect found during inspection can save you problems later. You can prevent

a breakdown on the road that will cost time and money, or worse, cause an accident. Take the time to BE SAFE!
