The Science of Desert
• People bake cake everyday but do they understand the reaction?
• What makes it rise?
• What makes it so light and fluffy?
• What is the science of dessert???

The Science of Dessert
• When heat is added to the products, CO₂ is released creating air bubbles in the cake.
• This causes the cake to rise and be light and fluffy!!
• The reaction in a baking soda volcano is similar to that of baking soda in cake. In both the mixture produces CO₂ bubbles which rise up.

Evidence of Chemical Change
• Gas is produced in bubbles that cause the cake to rise. This happens when the CO₂ is released.
• Applying heat causes the reaction to occur when you bake the cake.

Setting & Background
• This is just one of the many reactions that occurs in the kitchen!!!
