What is ‘the gospel’?

Page 2: The Real Gospel - Part 1

God made you, loves you and has a wonderful plan for your life (Gen. 1: 1, John 3:16, John 10: 10).

Humanity is tainted by sin and is therefore separated from God. As a result, we cannot know God's wonderful plan for our lives (Rom. 3:23, Rom. 6:23).

Jesus Christ is God's only provision for our sin. Through Jesus Christ, we can have our sins forgiven and restore a right relationship with God (John 1:1, 1 Tim. 2:5, Heb. 7:26, Rom. 3:21-26, 2 Cor. 5:21, 1 Cor. 15:20-22).

We must place our faith in Jesus Christ as Saviour in order to receive the gift of salvation and know God's wonderful plan for our lives (Mark 1:15, Acts 20:21, Rom. 10:9-10).

3. When did Christians start presenting the

gospel like this?

I am perfectly comfortable with what people normally mean when they say “the gospel.” I just don’t think it is what Paul means. In other words,

I am not denying that the usual meanings are things that people ought to say, to preach about,

to believe. I simply wouldn’t use the word “gospel” to denote these things.

God?

‘Gospels of sin management’ presume a Christ with no serious work other than redeeming

humankind…[and] they foster ‘vampire Christians,’ who only want a little blood for their

sins but nothing more to do with Jesus until heaven
