But one man, Ian Manson (Chief Executive of Clyde Gateway) stated at the time “ This is the most important decision we have made as it will allow us to provide significant development opportunities for new investors.” How right he was, as the first company to move into the development just off London Road, is about to begin to reap the benefits of Ian Manson’s vision. Oil and gas service company Glacier Energy is to become the first to move into the £35million Clyde Gateway East Business Park in Auchenshuggle, bringing up to 48 jobs in the process. The firm, in late July, will relocate manufacturing operations to a 22,200 square feet unit, which is one-third larger the size of its current operations in Motherwell. Ian Manson, told the Re-Gen, “It was just under three year ago that we announced the purchase of the brownfield site that has since been turned into Clyde Gateway East Business Park. At the time, I said it was the most important decision we had made in the early days of Clyde Gateway, and this has certainly proved to be the case. “The private sector has backed our judgement with two highly experienced real estate developers in MEPC and Scot Sheridan putting £14million into Clyde Gateway East and Glacier Energy Services now moving into the first three speculative units that have been constructed. “I am certain that in the coming months we will see many more prestigious companies make announcements that they too will be locating into what is undoubtedly Scotland’s best connected business park. Dave Sturrock, (Chief Executive of Glacier Energy Services), said: “Moving to extended premises is a major component in our drive for significant growth across Scotland and the wider UK, giving us greater capacity for capital investment on our key products and services – and at Clyde Gateway East we have a site which is fit for purpose in every respect.” Rick de Blaby, (Chief Executive of MEPC) said: “We’re extremely pleased to welcome Glacier Energy Services to Clyde Gateway East, a development which they have seen as being perfectly suited to deliver a purpose-built base for a highly skilled workforce. It is the ideal endorsement of our original belief in the area, our belief in the vision that Clyde Gateway had promoted and our belief that with Scot Sheridan, we could deliver a genuinely valuable real estate offer to companies like Glacier Energy Services, thereby contributing to the regeneration of the area.” Clyde Gateway East is located on London Road adjacent to Junction 2a of the M74. It has planning permission for business, general industrial and storage/distribution uses. The Masterplan for Clyde Gateway East provides for a total of 430,000 square feet and the potential to accommodate in excess of 1,000 jobs. GLASGOW City Council are involved in completing a deal that would see the former Hollowglen Chil-dren’s Home in Springboig being sold and converted into a Business Centre. The former Centre was built in the early 1990’s as a purpose built Social Work Childrens Residential Home but following many com-plaints from local residents it was closed in 2007. In 2010 Social Work intimated that they had no further

interest in the building and the City Council then initially marketed the building in August 2011 and by October 2011 only one interested party had applied to buy it. Unfortunately the sale failed to go through and it was then re-marketed in March this year with a clos-ing date of 10th May 2012. There were six appli-cants showing interest and after consideration Connect House (Scotland) Limited were selected as

the preferred option. This company plan to convert the former Home into a Business Centre with office and workshop spaces. It is intended to house a Commercial Digital Printers and social Enterprise space providing office space plus meeting and training rooms. This will be a boost to the area and looks like it could offer employment to the East End something that is very welcome to the area as a whole.

Margaret Curran MP and Frank McAveety MSP high-light the proposed changes to vital community lifelineMargaret Curran and Frank McAveety visited Baillieston post office at the weekend to congratulate Mark Adrian and his staff on the service run from and the success of Baillieston Post Office. They know how valued the local post office is to the people of Baillieston. This is great news in Baillieston but legislation recently passed in the House of Commons will mean the privatisation of Royal Mail. This leads to doubts over the future of the Post Office network which can no longer be guaranteed in the years to come. Margaret who spoke in the debate made clear that the legislation is a big mistake and is not supported by the public. Margaret and Frank took the opportunity to make passing shoppers aware of the change to legislation and asked for them to pledge the support by signing a petition. Barlanark Post Office is currently for sale and unless a buyer is found its fate remains uncertain. Margaret Curran says “

Urban Post Offices often face different challenges from those in rural communities, they too deal with isolation and represent a lifeline to their communities. We need to take action now to ensure that we do not end up in a situation on which a large retailer steps in and takes over the service. An elderly

person living in Barlanark may be unable to get to any of the large retailers in the community. A single mother with 3 children and without a car relies on local services that the Post Office provides. This legislation is a forerunner of many Post Office closures because we are not taking the necessary

steps to protect the service.”Frank McAveety says “ Privatisation of the Royal Mail has the long term threat to jobs and services at a local level. I will be working with Margaret to ensure the voices of the east end are heard and all the local post offices are protected”.

AMAZING WINS FOR GLASGOW DENTAL PRACTICE AT TOP UK INDUSTRY AWARDS

The team at Spring Grove Clinic in Barrachnie Road Garrowhill is celebrating the fantastic achievement of winning two of the top UK Private Dentistry Awards of 2010, namely Practice of the Year and Best Patient Care. It was also awarded runner up in Best Community Charity Project and Outstanding Individual of the Year along with being shortlisted for Most Attractive Practice and Best Team. Winning the Practice of the Year and Best Patient Care Awards is a great endorsement of the Spring Grove Clinic teams’ commitment to providing affordable, value for money, community based, professional family oral and dental health care, advice, support and treatment to an exceptionally high standard. The award winning practice prides itself on its patient focussed approach which is always courteous, efficient and friendly, set within surroundings that are luxurious, comfortable and welcoming. Heading up the clinical team is Dr David Cunningham who established his practice in Garrowhill over 14 years ago. Winning these two Awards recognises his firmly held belief that a community based dental practice, where patient relationships and trust are key, using the latest dental technology,

can provide the same level of treatment options, care and surroundings as a large city centre based dental practice. Commenting, David Cunningham said, “The team has worked incredibly hard to make Spring Grove Clinic a fantastic place for our patients. I am delighted that our efforts have been recognised by the top UK industry professionals.” “My focus has always been to provide excellent patient care with the very best dental advice and treatment. I believe in spending time with my patients, fully explaining preventative and treatment options to them and supporting them as they choose their treatment plans. I am very grateful to our patients for their fantastic comments in support of our Awards application.” At the Awards presentation, the Spring Grove Clinic team were commended for excellence across all of the categories, for the state of the art facility, and being a team who strive to provide excellent patient care. Its’ efforts in raising funds to support Yorkhill Children’s Hospital ECMO Unit won the runner-up award for Best Community Charity Project. Spring Grove Clinic is a leader in providing dental implants, cosmetic dentistry, invisible braces, tooth whitening and family dentistry.

McAveety Slams SNP Games Funding DecisionGlasgow Shettleston MSP Frank McAveety has hit out at a decision by Scottish Enterprise to slash Commonwealth Games legacy funding by almost half. Clyde Gateway, the body responsible for regenerating the East End of Glasgow, has been hit with a 46% cut in funding for urban regeneration in 2011/2012. The agency has been told it will share around £6.8 million with five other agencies, instead of the £7 million it was initially promised. Frank said: “The Enterprise Minister seems to be more interested in facilitating meetings for his friend the Education Minister, who he wants to succeed him as an MSP than he is in the well being of the people of the East End. At this very moment he should be pulling a meeting together with Scottish Enterprise to demand that they withdraw this ridiculous proposal and get around the table with all the partners to fulfil the promises made.”Frank added: “Unlike any other renewal programme in the country commitments were made to ensure that Glasgow could make the best of the opportunities for the Games and regeneration investment. There is no better case for having an impact on Scotland’s economic performance and I am demanding an urgent meeting with the Scottish Government to urge them to ensure Scottish Enterprise withdrawal the proposal to make a massive cut in their previous commitments to the area.”

Jubilee Jaunt at Unity Lunch Club

VOLUNTEERS and members of the Unity Lunch Club which meets every Friday at the wee hall in St Bridgets in Baillieston held a terrific Jubilee Celebration Lunch last week.

The hall was decorated in bunting and tablecovers depicting the Union Flag and the members wore bowler hats and crowns as they tucked into a delicious three course meal served up by the tireless volunteers, (according to Mary Deakin and the squad).

Many familiar faces including

Mrs Mallin, Friel, Hogg, Simpson, plus two female officers of the local constabulary and others too numerous to mention, looked resplendent in their finery as they all celebrated the Queen’s 60 glorious years on the Throne. All in all it was a great day and everyone certainly enjoyed it.

(Ha Ha, Mrs Mallin and Mrs Friel, - I told you on the day to expect your names in this wee story – That’ll teach you both to wind me up, Ha Ha Ha).

Secret Millionaire with Blinkered VisionFIRSTLY let us congratulate the “Secret Millionaire” for parting with some of her cash to help the 3 chosen projects in the East End and secondly let us offer some advice to her, If you want to slag off the East End of Glasgow please stay in your leafy suburb of London and don’t bother coming back.

Last week Channel 4 broadcast a programme showing Millionaire Carol Hayes.

Under the blurb advertising the programme it states, Carol Hayes, a London-based agent representing celebrities such as Gok Wan and Arlene Phillips. Carol leaves the glamour of showbiz behind when she travels to East Glasgow’s desolate Easterhouse Estate, one of the most deprived areas in the UK, where life expectancy is just 54 in some places.

Carol finds charities she really cares about, and she throws herself into volunteering for organisations that help local kids and people with early stage dementia. The people she meets help the tough businesswoman get in touch with her softer side.

What a right load of “ C*** ” as far as most of the Eastenders who watched the programme were concerned. Once again it showed the stereotypical view of the area that those sitting in plush offices churn up without realising that the East End of Glasgow has changed over the years and that those who have made these differences such as the excellent Housing Associations, Well Run Projects such as FARE and the like and the excellent work that is being done jointly by Local People and Strathclyde Police to eliminate Gang-Fighting etc... basically count for nothing as far as people like producers of Channel 4 programmes are concerned.

As long as they can get their silly wee points across as the East End being deprived and that every now and again

some wonderful “Benefactor” can visit the area for a week, learn everything about the area and put up a few bob to rectify it then everything in the garden is rosy.

Ms. Hayes was seen turning up her nose at excellent projects and was even filmed walking past the new FARE building in Drumlanrig Avenue (Supported by Duncan Bannatyne with loads more cash than Carol Hayes parted with and which Mr Bannatyne continues to take great interest in, without craving publicity), without even acknowledging its existence and also shunning the great work being done at the “Bridge in Bogbain Road which caters for all groups in the area putting on wonderful shows and performances on a weekly basis, John Wheatley College which with its two excellent campuses in Easterhouse and Haghill have transformed the lives of thousands of Eastenders by helping them get back into the workplace, The Hub in Wellhouse and the Impact Arts project for example, so much for nothing to do in the area.

Bealach House Day Care Centre in Baillieston was certainly well deserving of the cash she donated, but to come across as a patronising “Lady” stating

that those excellent workers there “Like their Whisky” was a little below the belt especially after being invited into their homes, and to expect us all to believe she “staggered back to her flat in Easterhouse” was certainly living in Fantasy Land as far as we were concerned.

It was great that “The Connie” in Conisborough Road was given some funding but to say that the excellent work done by the residents of Provanhall and the Community Trust would have all been in vain but for her visit is beyond a joke.

PEEK in the Calton area were also recipients of Ms Hayes’s generosity but the sterling work that Melodie and her staff do in this area and beyond was basically given little thrift as the programme concentrated on just how “Wonderful” this women from London was for even venturing into the “Wilds of Glasgow’s East End”.

Do Channel 4 think that making a programme like this does anything for the hard-working people throughout the East End of Glasgow apart from annoying them (as messages posted on Facebook will testify), then they should get into the real world. We have already suffered the pathetic series of “The Scheme” on BBC

where they followed some families in three streets in Kilmarnock and ignored the rest of the area, and now this. All we would like to say is “If that’s what it takes to make us basically beg for Millionaire’s

Money” then you can keep it. We have survived without you for years

and with the resolve of the residents and projects of the East End of Glasgow, we will continue to do so.

June is a month for expansion and growth of your mind and new contacts it will be a month of interactions. There’ll be new information, new people but don’t neglect those old friends whom you have not seen in some time, so try to put that are of your life in order too. Life will begin to take off after the 11th as the lucky planet Jupiter moves into your sign.

June is a month to look within and also to look after your own needs instead of others! A time to expand ideas and to capitalise on investments, remember that the universe works with the law of attraction so visualize your dreams becoming reality and it will be so!

I always look at birthday months as a new year and a new you and this is what is happening in your sign as Jupiter enters your sign your optimism and foresight kicks in and you start a new cycle of luck and hope, you are closing some doors on the past but pushing new ones open with gusto, enjoy and embrace all new beginnings.

Insecurities must not hold you back right now as it is important to embrace the changes that are coming the planet Uranus is making us all look at change and you are no different, be bold be honest in all your endeavors and allow that ambition to succeed in all areas of your live drive you to change and victory..

A Magical time is unfolding before your feet; it is almost as if the universe has put you on center stage (again). You will see an increase in your financial house and your love life comes into the fore as you either plan to lasso a man or to entice your current partner deeper into your lay, a month of moving and shaking away debris.

Around the time of the partial eclipse in Sagittarius you may feel that it is time to repair any problems on the home front, and you will be right it is an ideal time to let bygones be bygones and rebuild and repair lost or bad feeling to do with friends and family, this will allow you to focus fully on your goal, work and finances, you feel confident and your virgonian charm helps you achieve real progress forward and with mars in your sign there is no stopping you.

Venus your ruling planet is retrograde for most of this month so it is a time to deal with practical matters. You may have been a lit bit of a hermit of late but with the move of Jupiter into your sister sign of Gemini and the new moon on the 19th you feel a sense of clearing and a need to get back out and communicate with the world.

There is a touch of destiny in your sign this month as you are being pushed forward to claim success and victory in all aspects of your life, not one who fears change this month finds you opening up new doors and then further new door waiting, don’t be shy, go forward, embrace and enjoy.

You have a choice this month, live in a world of fantasy and sexual relations or get practical and make headway in your working and financial life. It is time to understand relationships personal and business a month for you to see and all others to see what you are truly about, take stock, think and move wisely.

You cannot be faulted for your efforts and work ethics in fact if this gave you brownie points you would be at the top of the ladder of success, this month you take responsibilities seriously and with efficiency you drive yourself forward to the finishing line. A month when your attention to detail and drive get you noticed in more ways than one!

A time to cast away fear and doubt, a time to begin to believe in yourself and your abilities, a time of communication of thoughts feelings and ideas, all of these things you find difficult (normally) but this month it is important to push yourself in these areas and you will fell lighter and happier than you have been in some time. !

You seem to be focused on your home this month with a lot of emphasis on making it feel safer, some might decorate, some of you might move and decide to buy or sell you have a desire to nurture your inner self and the planet venus retrograde is the causing this effect, try to keep a balance on your home life and go with the flow as this phase will pass.

Sizzling Suzie’s Summer Spreads

One of the best things about going on holiday, I think, is coming back. Ok so you guys probably had as nice a weather as we had in Portugal, but hey…we were lying by a pool being waited on hand and foot into the bargain. The wean had an absolute ball. Not once did he get bored of pushing me or his daddy into the pool. Or anyone else for that matter. The food was absolutely delicious and as usual I have come home with a few new recipes. It pays to chat up the chef. Although this stew requires you to prepare it the night before it really is worth it.

Butter bean and Pork Stew

500g pack of butterbeans soaked overnight.1 kilo of pork belly with skin removed.3 cloves of garlic crushed1 small pack of smoked bacon lardoons2 bay leaves1 glass of good red wineTbsp dried thyme2 tsp harissa paste….(you will find it in the herd and spice aisle)1 ½ pints of vegetable stock1 packet of shredded curly kale or strong greens1 tsp of olive oil

Marinade your pork overnight in the wine, garlic and bay leaves. Remove meat from marinade and fry off in the olive oil until browned and sealed. In a heavy lidded pan add the meat with the marinade and cook very slowly for about 1 ½ hours to 2 hours or until it is very tender. Fry the lardons until browned and add to the meat with the drained beans, harissa and stock. Cook for a further 40-50 minutes until the beans are tender. Add the kale and cook for a further 20 min. Remove the meat and allow it to rest for 10 minutes before shredding it using two forks. Pour the beans and cabbage into a bowl and top with the shredded meat.

Fresh Sardine Salad

You can use fresh sardines or tinned if you prefer but works with tuna too’

4 fresh sardines gutted and grilled1 small pack of feta cheese cubed1 small onion diced2 small tomatoes cubed with juice and seeds removed1 pinch of cumin2 boiled potatoes cubed2 tbsp of French dressing

Combine all the ingredients and serve with toasted ciabbatta bread

Baked Custard

Custard powder made as per instructions2 tbsp of caramel sauce

Pour the caramel in a shallow dish and place in a hot oven for 5-6 min until liquid and golden. Pour over the custard mix and bake for 10 - 15 min until properly set and golden. Allow to cool completely and chill in the fridge. Turn out onto a plate and serve in thick slices. No need for anything else.

Have a great weekend everyone and here’s hoping the sun shines.

Love Susie x

Glasgow’s leading independent funeral directors Anderson Maguire have just opened another funeral home in the East End. Located at 658 Alexandra Parade, close to the Royal Infirmary. the new facility bridges the gap between the firm’s funeral homes in Springburn Way and Shettleston Road. “We have a large number of families in the Garngad, Townhead and Riddrie areas who use the company when they have a bereavement and this will be more convenient for them” said Angela Maguire, part of the management team at Anderson Maguire’s head office. ”More families than ever are now using our company. They recognise that we offer to very high level of personal service at a very moderate cost, something which is very important to families especially in the current economic climate” said Angela

The Alexandra Funeral Home is the fourth facility the company has opened in the last 3 years with others currently being planned. “As a family business we are focused on providing the best care and attention to families at a difficult time. We have invested continually in everything from staff training to our top of the range Jaguar hearses and limousines” said Angela, the next generation now involved in the running this family concern. ”We now have ten locations throughout the city all providing compassionate assistance to families on a local basis. We take care of absolutely everything from contacting the clergy or officiant, arranging the crematorium or cemetery, inserting paper notices right through to organising the catering and all at a moderate cost”

To help enhance the level of personal attention on offer at their East End funeral homes Anderson Maguire has appointed Tollcross man Christopher Bradley as the funeral director dedicated to working across the three funeral homes. Christopher who has been based at the company’s head office for the past couple of years is a well known face in the East End. Reared on Tollcross Road he attended Wellshot Primary school before going on to Eastbank Academy. Says Christopher “I learned a lot about people and how to look after folk when I worked at one of the East End’s best known establishments Honest Johns on Braidfauld Street. Even in a very simple way I learned things there which have stood me in good stead during my life and which are invaluable now.” For immediate help call 0141 423 4400 at any hour.

“How Glasgow Say’s Goodbye”

www.andersonmaguire.co.uk

THE East End was stunned last week with the news of a tragic road accident in the north of Scotland. The accident happened last Friday afternoon as two local men from this area were travelling home in their works van on the notorious A9 trunk road near Ralia in the Highlands.

Their van was involved in a collision with a bus travelling to Inverness and tragically Barry Murray and Mark McFarlane were both killed. Barry and Mark were partners in M&M Painters and Decorators and were well known in this area as Barry originally was from George Street in Baillieston and

Mark lived in Barlanark. Both lads were full of fun and a pleasure to be with as friends who socialised with them in the Barrachnie Inn will testify. Floral tributes have been laid at Barrachnie Cross by friends and relatives. Our sympathies go out to both families following this tragic news.

Barry’s partner Laura and young daughter, prepare to lay a single red rose at the Barrachnie Crosstribute area.

Tragic Loss following A9 Crash

DiverCity, the new project based in Dalmarnock, last week held an Anti Sectarianism discussion day in the new Glasgow Community Safety Services headquarters in London Road.

Led by Kenny Faulds the discussion took in many of the problems created by the bigotry and sectarian issues we here in the West of Scotland find during our day-to-day lives

and pondered on the fact that we all need to overcome these to create a better environment in which to raise future generations.

Strathclyde Police were in attendance to highlight some of the incidents that occur during “Old Firm” matches and even games that only involve one half of this pair. Some horrendous scenes involving “Flares” and mindless violence

were shown to those attending the discussions and the overall factor that came out of the day was that lots of work has to be done between all communities before in-roads are made on this very disturbing issue.

This was an excellent exercise in bringing the sectarian problem to the fore and DiverCity must be congratulated on tackling such an emotive subject.

DiverCity hold Anti-Sectarian Awareness

New Hi-tech Nursery for the East EndA new hi-tech nursery has been completed in the East End as part of the multi-million pound re-development of the former Great Eastern hotel on Duke Street.

The Re-Gen was given a preview of the building, which has been built to strict sustainable standards, and we were very impressed by what we saw.

The nursery is the final part of a large scale project which has seen the former Great Eastern Hotel converted into 60 modern flats with 48 newly built flats constructed on the adjacent site. The work has been undertaken by Milnbank Housing Association and the entire investment in the Great Eastern project has totalled £14m. The Nursery itself has been funded through grants from the Big Lottery, Climate Challenge Fund and the housing association Wider Role Fund. Glasgow based contractor Project Management and Construction Ltd (PM&C) built the Nursery at a cost of just under £1m using insulated panels which will ensure the building is energy efficient and future carbon emissions will be extremely low. To reflect the sustainable nature of the building, it will be called the Carbon Footprints Nursery and Milnbank is sure it will create the perfect environment for nurturing young children.

Alan Benson, Director of Milnbank HA, said: “we are delighted that work to the Nursery is now completed and our immediate priority is to recruit staff and get everything ready

for starting operations in August. A Nursery Manager has been selected and is due to start work in July. We would like at this time to record our appreciation to the various funders and to the contractor for making this venture a reality”. As well as being a state of the art children’s facility capable of taking 70 children, the nursery will also provide employment and training opportunities for up 30 local people. There will also be community benefits through the provision of subsidised places for parents with child care

needs who are returning to the workplace or engaged in further education. Milnbank HA’s Support Manager, Barbara Glass, told the Re-Gen: “We will be holding open days in the next few weeks so that parents can see for themselves what the nursery has to offer.

We’re in the process of kitting out the Nursery with play equipment and finalising the formal Registration procedure in preparation for welcoming the children to what will be a happy and stimulating early years learning experience”.

Further information about the Nurserycan be obtained by e-mailing

[email protected] or phoning 0141 554 6996.

Death of well-known Glasgow AccountantEdward Gillespie (Eddie), a well-known accountant in practice in Glasgow, died on Monday 4 June 2012 as a result of a tragic accident in the garden of his home. He was aged 70 years.

Eddie had been a member of the Association of International Accountants since 1972 and was elected to membership of the AIA Council (the governing body) in 1979. He served as President from 1997 to 2001 and in that capacity attended conferences in many parts of the world includ-ing USA, Canada, Malaysia and Hong Kong. He also served as a delegate to national and international conventions on accountancy-related subjects including the United Nations in Geneva.

He was chairman of the board several times , latterly 1996-2001

Apart from his thriving ac-countancy practice which he had started in 1972 Eddie found time to assist in his local community. He was a practising member of the Catholic Church, being made a Knight of the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem, an honour of which he was justifiably proud. From 1992 Eddie served a period as a JP within Glasgow and from 2005 was a member of the board of the John Wheatley College,

Glasgow. He was also a staunch member of the Labour party, assisting in canvassing at both local and national elections and visiting the Houses of Parlia-ment on a number of occasions.

Eddie lived out his co-operative ideals, he provided placements for young people from local schools to show the value of finance services as a career, he acted as accountant to Glasgow East Womens Aid , was adviser to Scottish League of Credit Unions.

Caledonia University Shanks Centre for Waste Management was initiated from his role as Director Score Environment in 1999. He brought The Associa-tion of Accountants Conference on Sustainability and Recycling to Glasgow Caledonia University in in 2002 providing a platform for the emerging issues of environment stewardship within local government and for com-munity development

Eddie was a family man with five children and 10 grand-children. He was pre-deceased by his wife Pat and one of his daughters, Denise who died 21 April this year

He was larger than life , with a gift for self mockery and fun loving character, an extrovert.

He was beginning to restart

his life and practice from home in response to clients who were anxious to have his professional support.

These past two years were very difficult for him, Eddie shared his grief for Denise writ-ing to many in past 2 weeks, but he was optimistic he would live out his life across the social ,re-ligious and community networks of the City he loved.

A traditional Scot, with a love of life and thoughtful consider-ation for his fellow man, Eddie was always ready with a joke and will be remembered with af-fection by his many friends, for his ready wit and down to earth common sense. He will be sadly missed.

THE pupils of Wellhouse Primary School in Tollcross were treated not only to a vision of the Asda Foun-dation Bus which is only appearing at 3 schools in the whole of Scotland, they also were cooked a snack by the Chef on the bus as part of a Healthy Eating Programme introduced by the Foundation. The whole day was delivered by the colleagues at Asda Parkhead and the teachers of Wellshot Prima-ry and incorporated the kids learning about healthy eat-

ing via dairy products and each child was able to sam-ple the delicious Smoothies and Snacks prepared by the Asda Foundation Chef who travels around Britain with the excellent bus. Thanks must go to Annmarie Rocks of Asda who set up the whole day via the Asda Foundation and the Local Asda superstore General manager Robbie McDonald, as the children at Wellshot had a great time.

Congratulations to Parkhead Housing

Association on their 35th Anniversary

THIS year Parkhead Housing Association will be celebrating its 35th year in business! The Association was first started on 7 July 1977 from very humble beginnings. The organisation was started

by current Vice Chair John Ferguson along with his neighbour Martin Hannah using a broken typewriter! In the early 70s housing conditions were very poor, particularly in the East End of Glasgow. The typical

house in the East End was archetypal inner city, pre war tenemental stock. The area was also dominated by private landlords who had little or no regard for the local area or a community spirit. There were however some struggling owners who wanted to make a change in the Parkhead area. In 1974 the Housing Act prompted the establishment of Housing Corporations with the availability of 100% grant funding to areas of ‘Housing Action’. Parkhead fell into that category. Subsequently Community owned and led businesses were formed to bring about change in the area. One of those businesses was Parkhead Housing Association 35 years ago

this year. The first few years were a struggle with only one development worker and where the Committee had to deliberate on which contractors they could afford First Tenant moves into the Refurbished Helenvale Development

afford to pay! Now there is a strong workforce, in a recently refurbished office space, with a healthy turnover of £5m. Parkhead Housing Association also boasts a stock portfolio of 1435 Houses, 57 shared owners and 4 special needs

projects. A huge departure from its inception in the late 70s! A recent acquisition off the shelf from kiers at the Belvedere Village site represented a new avenue for Parkhead Housing Association

and an innovative approach in increasing their stock to service their burgeoning waiting list. The Association will also continue to explore any further development opportunities in the area that may assist with their growing number of applicants. Parkhead Housing Association also has a significant investment programme where they aim to spend £1m a year for the next 30 years on upgrading and improving their current housing stock for the benefit of their existing tenants. The Association also recently acquired the site of the old Parkhead Fire Station with negotiations taking place to build a further 24 properties on that site, 5 of which as amenity properties. This will be another positive step in the regeneration of the area. The Association is also looking at a number of initiatives and social enterprises to further improve the sense of community in the area including community gardens and allotments and the potential introduction of craft classes for local residents. Parkhead Housing Association will be celebrating its 35th Anniversary with a series of fun filled events and launching a number of initiatives in the local area. The 35th Anniversary events are sponsored by McTaggarts Construction and will be kicking off on Saturday 30th June with the PHA “Gala Day” taking place at the Parkhead Housing Association office car park from 11am – 4pm. There will be lots of fun activities taking place for all the family including face painting, bouncy castle, tarot reading and lots more. The Housing Association is also holding a school art competition in conjunction with Quarrybrae School and launching the first Parkhead Education Bursary, made available to a student to help assist with their further education.

On 4th October Parkhead Housing Association will also be hosting the second annual Parkhead Variety Show taking place this time at Quarrybrae School. Auditions for the show are being held on 25th August at Whiterose Hall between 12pm and 2pm. If you are interest in taking part and showing off your talent please contact Geraldine or Brenda on 0141 556 6226.

THE Ladies of Shettleston Bowling Club in Culrain Street recently held a Charity Day to raise funds for two local good causes namely the JDRF Diabetes charity and the Alzheimers Group which meets in Croftspar Place. Both groups received the tremendous sum of £849-00 each thanks to the hard work of the girls from Shettleston. Young Dale Scott (aged 6) was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes and when this was brought to the attention of the Ladies Committee at Shettleston they immediately

thought of holding a day to raise some cash for JDRF which exists to find a cure for this dreadful disease. The committee which includes E Beattie, M McPhail, M Brown, C Melrose, M McAlister, F Adair, M McPhail and E Painter, would like to thank the following for their help and donations which helped them raise the fantastic sum of £1697-00, Tesco , Brooks Boutique, 5 Day Fruit Shop, Ruby Murray’s and the Ladies and Gents of Shettleston Bowling Club.

The Scottish Design awards, organised by “The Drum”, demonstrate and prove the design talent which is taking place in Scotland and the Awards Ceremony creates a platform to showcase the best of Scottish design. On the night CCG (Scotland) Ltd led by Chief Executive Alistair Wylie, certainly came out tops as far as the awards were concerned with the company receiving the “Main Category” award for their excellent work in the Scotstoun/Whiteinch area, plus commendations for the conversion of the Maryhill Primary School and for the development of former industrial land at Blochairn, to deliver striking new build flats and high quality external amenity space along with new office accommodation. Knowing CCG from working on various features in the Re-Gen we here think that these awards are certainly well deserved and Gary McGregor (Managing Director of CCG) told the Re-Gen, “ CCG have been fortune to be working with a range of local housing providers with real ambition and drive to create high quality accommodation. CELEBRATING 60 GLORIOUS YEARS

RESIDENTS in the East End joined in the Queen’s Jubilee celebrations by hosting street parties throughout the area and thankfully the weather was kind as the crowds flocked to the various venues hosting their fun days.Dalmarnock Centre staff worked hard to decorate the area with bunting and flags

and the children in the area were treated to many different rides and games outside in the open space surrounding the Centre. Everything from “Bucking Broncos” to “Laser Quest”, plus Swings and Bouncy Castles were laid on to give the kids a great choice and judging by the happy smiling faces they certainly enjoyed

the whole day. Music was supplied by local group “The Tenements” who were very well received by the fantastic crowd of around 800 locals and visitors. Inside there were the usual stalls offering information and advice plus face-painting, hair stylists, nail-painting and of course “Kids and Co” were there as well with “Catchy”

handing out tubs of fresh fruit, which went down really well. Following the afternoon festivities the Centre held a Jubilee Dance which was very well attended and overall the whole celebration day was a rousing success. Well done to the Staff and volunteers at Dalmarnock Centre for their sterling efforts. Meanwhile

along at Bridgeton Cross there was another Jubilee Party and the Cross looked resplendent in Red, White and Blue as the locals descended to celebrate the Jubilee Holiday. Fun was certainly the name of the game and that is exactly what was on offer as the children were able to take part on the various

rides which captured their imagination. Families of all religions and creeds mingled together and the one thing that came across was that when there is a community celebration everyone comes together to mix and enjoy the day. Pictured here are some of images captured in the area.....

TWO local teams Crown-point United and Clyde City teamed up in dread-ful weather last Sunday afternoon at Crownpoint Sports Centre to raise cash for a tremendous cause and the winner was young 15 year old Sean Rooney. Sean was recently diag-nosed with a very serious illness and when Stevie

Tannahill (manager of Crownpoint United), heard of this, he immediately arranged a game between his team and Clyde City to raise some cash for the young lad’s treatment. The game itself was rather one-sided but as Stevie told the Re-Gen, “ The result didn’t matter one bit, as this was for a great

cause.” On the day the match raised around £500 and the teams adjourned to the Londoner Pub in Bridgeton where owner Jackie Mitchell (who is planning to walk the West Highland Way to raise more cash for young Sean), laid on a buffet for both teams.

An historic moment occurred this week when I watched the first blocks of the Red Road flats being demolished. These flats had helped solve a housing crisis in Glasgow in the 1960’s, and for many families offered homes with central heating and inside bathrooms for the first time. While it is sad for many people to see their family homes being demolished, it is time we replaced these flats with new and modern housing fit for today. What we have learned from the Red Road is its not just about building new homes, but also about how they are managed and maintained.

A few weeks ago, I helped organise a lobby of

Parliament on behalf of the local housing associations in my constituency. Over 100 people representing housing providers, managers and tenants wanted to make clear their fears to MSPs about our current housing policy in Scotland. One of the biggest concerns shared by tenants and housing providers is the lack of money from the Scottish Government to help with regeneration and bringing derelict land back into use for the benefit of local residents. It is important that we get housing policy right for the future of the North and East of the city. Housing associations play a vital role in our community and the provision of affordable

housing is only a small part of what housing associations provide. Every good housing association helps offer benefits advice, provide community facilities, run social clubs for tenants and allow residents to feel safe in their own homes. A housing provider not only helps build the physical homes for people, but also helps build our communities so that they are stronger and more confident . I will campaigning to ensure Community Housing Associations are given the funding they need to ensure they are afforded they opportunity to build the kind of new homes that will ensure

Many local people have spoken to me regarding their disappointment in the way the East End was portrayed in the Channel 4 television programme, Secret Millionaire, which aired on Tuesday 3 June 2012. All too often the East End is used by the national media whenever they want a negative news story. Unfortunately, this programme was no different. Whilst I am grateful the show resulted in some donations to fantastic organisations in the East, the show did not portray the area in the way that I see it when I travel around the constituency.

The programme made no mention whatsoever of the substantial regeneration projects that have taken place in recent years, including the new housing and brand new state of the art

schools that we now have in Easterhouse. Instead, the shots of Easterhouse that the production company chose to show included a derelict wasteland with numerous boarded up houses. The programme did not explain to the viewer that the Secret Millionaire had been placed within a demolition zone. To an outsider, unfamiliar with the East End, it looked as if that was the standard of housing available in Easterhouse. You only need to enter Easterhouse to know that this is simply not the case. If the camera had panned round you would have seen the new terraced houses that many of the tenants who were living in the demolition area now currently reside.

I accept that in parts of the East End, there is a still a great deal to be done to improve the standard of

living conditions for many people. As an elected member for this area, I am proud of the work that has already taken place to improve housing, schools and community facilities and I will continue to work hard to ensure that all residents live in the conditions they deserve.

If the TV programme failed to show the aesthetics of Easterhouse at its best, it did at least showcase the community spirit we have here – particularly by highlighting the organisations PEEK, The Connie and Baillieston Community Care. The staff that were filmed were a credit to the work that their organisations do. This part of the programme showed the real East End. The East End we all know – one that is full of individuals that go above and beyond on a daily basis to improve the lives of others. That is the important message that we should take from this TV show and the message that we must fight to be heard by the media.

Ruth Davidson MSPAs an MSP for Glasgow, I

am always keen to visit local projects and charities which do so much to enhance our communities here in the city.

A great example of this is Bobath Scotland - based in North East Glasgow - which works to improve the quality of life for children and adults living with cerebral palsy. Although the charity only set up a Scottish arm in 1995, it has provided a service to hundreds of families from across the country who are affected by the condition.

The great thing about

Bobath Scotland is that they involve carers and the wider family in the specialist therapy that they provide. Friends, siblings, carers, nursery teachers and others are all invited along to therapy sessions, meaning there is a real team approach to looking after those with the condition.

I was delighted to meet the professionals who provide this remarkable service, but also to see how the families respond to the care they are shown.

By providing this

service in a relaxed and fun environment, Bobath Scotland makes a real difference to the lives of those with cerebral palsy and is a charity for us to be proud of.

I am always happy to arrange meetings with constituents from the Glasgow region who think I may be able to help them with any issue.

I will be holding a special surgery tour over the summer, when I will be available to meet constituents across the city.

For details please contact my office on 0141 357 2739.

Plastic fantastic – wash & squash this Recycle WeekWe’ve been using it for 65 years and between water and soft drinks, shampoo and bleach, and olive oil to garden fertiliser, we get through a staggering 15 million of them every day in the UK alone. The humble plastic bottle has never been so much in demand, and now, thanks to the upcoming summer of sport and celebration, demand is set to soar further. It’s not just the prospect of Jubilee street parties, barbecues and associated merriment, there’s the small matter of the London 2012 Olympics and Paralympics Games; spectating will be thirsty work for the nine million ticket-holders and estimated 38 million TV viewers over the 30 days of competition. And we’ve not even touched on keeping cool while watching Wimbledon from Murray Mount, Euro 2012 on giant outdoor screens or the usual festival circuit. In short, 2012 is set to be a bumper year for plastic bottles. But with less than 50 per cent of them currently making the recycling bin, national Recycle

Week wants to turn it into a bumper year for collecting them too. The now-annual recycling push, running from 18-24 June this year, reminds us all of the value of recycling and just how easily we can do it. For 2012, it wants us to think twice before jettisoning our plastic bottles into the rubbish bag – because now, thanks to technology, it’s possible to recycle ALL shapes and sizes of bottle. Milk, shampoo, bleach, shower gel, and even plastic bottles used outside in the garden or kept in the shed. You name it; all you have to do is wash ’em and squash ’em.Even better, over 90 per cent of all UK local authorities now offer collection facilities for plastic bottles, either from a kerbside scheme or at recycling centres; you can find out what service is offered in your area by visiting your local council website or checking the postcode locator on the Recycle Now website www.recyclenow.com.UK households dispose of around 4.9 million tonnes of packaging

every year , but recycling just one tonne of plastic bottles saves 1.5 tonnes of CO2 being released into the atmosphere. To put this into perspective, if all of us in the UK recycled just one extra plastic bottle during Recycle Week, this would save enough energy to power over 71,000 plasma screen TVs for a year. Recycling also benefits the environment by significantly reducing air and water pollutants. So what happens to bottles during recycling? They’re first separated by colour, cleaned, melted down and then turned into plastic pellets. These are used to make fences, bags, flooring, window frames, fleeces, fibre fillings… or even more bottles! The good news is the technology that’s helping us do this is also helping us increase recycling rates of a number of other plastic items, such as yogurt pots, plastic trays, tubs and films so soon we’ll be able to recycle these items at home too. It’s also getting easier to recycle your plastic bottle when out and about with a number of Recycle

Zones being set up across the country; these provide designated areas where special units will help you recycle a whole range of items. You can find them in airport departure lounges, sporting venues, theme parks, shopping centres… and even on the local high street. Why not look out for them when you’re away from home. This year, global giant Coca Cola Enterprises is playing a major part in the initiative with a commitment to recycle all clear plastic bottles at the London 2012 Olympics and Paralympics Games. Estimates suggest that this translates to one fifth of the consumer waste likely to be produced at London 2012 venues. So, as recycling plastic bottles is now easier than ever, let’s start washing, squashing and recycling all our plastic bottles. And there’s no need to wait until Recycle Week….we can make a difference now.

 As  we  all  look

forward  to  the  summer  months,

remember  to  keep  recycling  wherev

er  you  are…  at

N&L Move Up in the WorldLOCAL company N&L Properties based in Main Street Baillieston last week held a “Soiree” to celebrate their move upstairs to their new premises. Having worked in cramped conditions for the past 4 years Heather and her team were delighted to secure the new office space which enables them to have not only a large office to accomodate 4 staff members but also a conference room which will certainly make life easier. Heather, Helen and the rest of the staff have settled well into their new offices and thanks to their friendly attitude and hard work, N&L Properties are certainly on the up and we don’t mean just up the stairs. (See Front Page Ad for more Details on N&L Properties).

LOCAL COUNCILLOR UNVEILS SPRINGBOIG MURAL

NEW Baillieston Councillor, Marie Garrity, continued her duties visiting local projects and facilities in the area, by meeting the staff and residents at Springboig Care Home in Larchgrove earlier this week. During her visit she unveiled a mural designed and painted by some of the children from St Timothy’s Primary School in Greenfield, as the school has a great rapport with the Care Home. Councillor Garrity has been very active since returning from a

holiday, (which had been arranged last year, prior to her even thinking of standing as a candidate), and since returning home, she has hardly had a minute to herself. Councillor Garrity told the Re-Gen, “I am delighted to have been invited along to Springboig Care Home to unveil this terrific mural which has been a tremendous venture between the residents and the pupils. It was good of the staff to take time to show me around this great facility and I was certainly impressed with what I saw”.

In his fifth annual report, Strathclyde Police Chief Constable Stephen House introduced decreases in violent crime and increases in detections across the force area.

The campaign against violence which began in 2007 has seen the number of serious assaults fall by 1511, murder and attempted murder fall by 162 and common assaults have decreased once again by 472.

The report also highlighted the significant work that has been done to disrupt businesses connected to Serious and

Organised Crime in the west of Scotland. Using Proceeds of Crime Legislation, the force has applied for financial restraints totalling £12,660,167 and seized £1.75 million pounds of hard cash from criminals. 550 people have also been arrested in connection with Organised Criminality, and through effective partnership working, a further £37 million has been denied to gangsters through disruption to businesses, denial of contracts with public bodies and blocking opportunities for them to operate in our communities.

In the report, Mr House writes “I have said this many times before, but I don’t get excited by statistics. For me, the real story lies behind the numbers. To put it bluntly, the work of the officers and staff of Strathclyde Police has helped prevent thousands of people being a victim of violence”.

This is the last report on the annual performance of Strathclyde Police, as the country prepares for the amalgamation of Scotland’s 8 police forces to form the single national force on April 1st 2013.

Summer Drink-Drugs Driving Campaign 2012The Association of Chief Police Officers in Scotland (ACPOS) Summer Drink Drugs Drive Campaign will commenced at 7am on Monday 4th June 2012, and will run until 7am on Monday 18th June 2012.

The campaign is intended to raise public awareness of the dangers and risks associated with drink/drugs driving, and to deter and detect those drivers who engage in this type of behaviour.

Officers within Glasgow North East & East Dunbartonshire Division will be working closely with Road Policing Colleagues to target those driving over the limit and under the influence of drugs; and force home the message “if you drive after drinking too much or taking drugs, you will face the consequences.”

Legislation introduced in Scotland in January 2010 means that the vehicle of a drink or drug driver can be seized and sold or destroyed.

Bogus WorkmenPolice in the East End of Glasgow are this week reminding residents, in particular the elderly, their relatives and carers to be vigilant about criminals posing as legitimate workmen.

Every year in the summer months, we see a rise in the number of criminals carrying out substandard work on peoples houses and in their gardens for hugely inflated sums of money.

Speaking at London Road Police Office, PC Ryan Curran said “We would like to take this opportunity to remind our older residents, those who live alone, their families and carers; that they should never engage in door step transactions with strangers who arrive and offer to carry out repair work from a quick roadside survey of their property.

Crucially, we are asking residents to take advice from reputable contractors on any work that is required, and follow these common sense tips:

• NEVERinvitestrangersintoyourhomenomatterwho nice they may seem.

• OfficialsfromPowerCompanies, theCouncilorotherorganisationsNEVERaskyoutoallowthemintoyour home without IDENTIFICATION or contacting you in writing first. If in doubt CALL and find out if they are genuine BEFORE allowing them in.

• NEVERenterintoanagreementwithsomeonewhohas called at your door and offered to carry out urgent repair work. If it’s lasted this long – it will last another day or so until you can take proper advice!

• NEVERgiveoutyourbankdetails, especiallyyourPIN Number – No legitimate business would ask for it – EVENTHEBANK!!

• Ifyouhaveanyconcernsaboutsomeonewhohascalled at your door ALWAYS call the police…..you might be preventing a neighbour or friend falling prey to a bogus caller.

You can contact the police on 0141 532 2000, or in an emergency dial 999. Your local community policing team can provide you with advice should you need it, and they are available on this number also.

DIVISIONAL COMMANDERS AWARDS CEREMONY.An amazing 31 police officers, police staff and members of the public who live or serve within the Glasgow North, East and East Dunbartonshire area were this week honoured for their achievements at the force training and recruitment centre at Jackton in East Kilbride.

Amongst those officers being honoured were Constables Russell Kerr,GillianErskine,AndrewCaldwell and Gary Sergeant of “Operation Alaska”, the East End Robbery Unit who over the last 18 months, have dramatically cut the number of robberies taking place, and brought scores of offenders before the courts.

For their determination, professionalism and dedication to duty, Sergeant Crawford Inglis and Constable Lorna McCulloch were commended by Divisional Commander, Chief Superintendent

Wayne Mawson for the painstaking investigation they carried out into a series of economic crimes carried out against a vulnerable person within their own home in the East End of Glasgow.

A concierge from a housing association in North Glasgow was among those recognised for coming to the assistance of a female officer as she struggled to save a vulnerable man’s life as he attempted to jump from a bridge.

Speaking at the event, Chief Superintendent Mawson said “My Divisional Commanders Awards Ceremony is held twice a year and I really look forward to these events. Every time, I am incredibly humbled to present awards for life saving acts of courage, investigative tenacity and sheer hard work.

It is a wonderful opportunity for family and friends to come along too and feel justifiably proud of the

superb actions and achievements of the recipients of the awards, which includes police officers, police support staff and sometimes, members of the public too”.

The event was attended by officers’ families, friends, senior officers and Councillor Frank Docherty of Glasgow City Council.

B Division’s Priority Crime Team targets Metal and Cable TheftOn Thursday 7th and Friday 8th June, officers from Strathclyde police’s B Division carried out an operation designed to tackle criminals involved in metal and cable theft. The officers were joined by colleagues from several agencies including, Strathclyde Fire and Rescue, UKBA, VOSA, SEPA and the British Transport Police.

The two day operation was a direct response to the ongoing problem of metal and cable thefts throughout the east end of Glasgow and proved a huge success.

On the first day of the operation, seventy three motor vehicles were stopped and ninety six stop searches were carried out. Six persons were reported for drug possession and possession of stolen property. Three individuals

were charged with operating without an itinerant metal dealers licence and two offences under the Environmental Protection Actwerereported.VOSAofficersissued six “Immediate Prohibition Notices” regarding dangerous or unroadworthy vehicles.

Sixty four metres of copper rope with a scrap value of £800 and four vehicles which were suspected to have been stolen were also recovered.

On day two of the operation, officers were joined by the off-road motorcycle unit, traffic officers andofficersfromVOSA.37motorvehicles were stopped and 52 stop searches were carried out. One male was reported for a drugs offence, two tickets were issued for no MOT and 7 more “Immediate

prohibition notices” were issued. £300 worth of scrap metal was also recovered and seized.

The two day operation was a huge success and Sergeant Frank Hamill praised all those officers involved, stating “Strathclyde police and its partners are committed to tackling the issue of metal thefts. This type of theft is costing the taxpayer millions of pounds and is endangering the local community. Metal casing for high voltage cables is often stolen leaving these cables exposed in the vicinity of housing areas and schools and lead is also being stolen from roofs, leading to flooding. My officers are committed to ensuring that those responsible are brought to justice and we will continue our efforts over the coming weeks and months.”

A Scottish Youth Football Association Coaches’ Study Group visit to Portugal has earned top marks for organisation and quality. According to Chief Executive David Little, the five-day itinerary, which included Coerver Coaching plus sessions conducted by professionals from SC Braga and Benfica Football Club, produced a wealth of information and ideas which can benefit grassroots football in Scotland. Speaking exclusively to Re-Gen Sport, David said: “This was without doubt the best-ever event involving our association. “It was top class. We had 24 coaches from our development programme, plus myself and Jim Dolan from the Scottish Youth Football Association Central Region, based at Browns Sports and Leisure Club, Vilamoura. “There were practical sessions and lectures from the likes of Hugo Vicente, who is Coerver’s Technical Coach at SC Braga. “The visit to Benfica’s Academy was amazing. They have grass and artifical surfaces, young players are taken to and from school by bus, and everything is done with a football. In fact, I noted there was a great deal of emphasis in working with a ball right from the warm-up stages, and the end product from their technical work is getting a shot on goal. “Coaches from SC Braga and Benfica came to our base and carried out sessions, while our development group went out locally and every single coach worked with their youngsters.” With the help of Mr Little, Re-Gen Sport will be given exclusive access to a forthcoming report on the SYFA Coaches’ Study Group visit once various sources of information, photographs and video footage has been collated. Should prove very interesting!

CITY WIN PREMIER LEAGUE CUPGLASGOW City Ladies F.C. have landed the first silverware of the new women’s season - and left opponents Spartans defeated in a Premier League Cup final for the third year running. City last won the tournament in 2009 against Hibernian, and they produced an impressive 5-1 midweek victory at Recreation Park, Alloa. Spartans, who beat Celtic 1-0 in their semi-final, were blown away by a first half display which saw them concede four goals. Little wonder successful Head Coach Eddie Wolecki admitted afterwards: “To play in a Cup final and have a performance like that was very pleasing.” Last season’s Premier League champions and Scottish Cup holders showed their intent right from the start with efforts from Jane Ross and Emma Mitchell. Ross made a 7th minute

breakthrough when she finished off a Lisa Evans cut-back. Louise Mason missed a great chance to equalise following a City defensive mistake - and Spartans were made to pay minutes later. Danica Dalziel pounced on a loose ball and netted off the underside of the bar. A slick move was behind goal No 3 after only 32 minutes. Leanne Ross sent a great pass on the inside of a Spartans defender to Lisa Evans, who ran towards the byeline and cut-back a precise pass for a drilled finish from Emma Mitchell. It went from bad to worse for the East of Scotland club.

Just before half-time, ‘keeper Rachel Harrison failed to hold a Mitchell shot, and Leanne Ross followed up to net the rebound. Eight minutes after the interval break, a lovely one-two between Jane and Leanne Ross saw the latter net her second goal of the game as Glasgow City went nap. To their credit, Spartans never stopped trying, and Lana Clelland beat the offside trap before shooting past Claire Johnstone. The new League Cup holders made three substitutions within the following squad: Johnstone, Mitchell, McSorley, Love, Crichton, Jane Ross, Corsie, Docherty, Leanne Ross, Evans and Dalziel. With 18 minutes remaining, Barnes, Lindner and and Melrose

appeared from the subs ‘ bench. Meanwhile, Glasgow City Under-13s have made club history by qualifying for a Cup final. The youngsters beat Celtic Under-13 age group 5-4 in their League Cup semi-final, and now play Falkirk in the final at Toryglen on Saturday, June 23. Well done all the girls, and their coaching staff of Tommy Little, Laura Williamson and Laura Daly. Glasgow City F.C. do not put any focus on results at youth level, and aim everything around performance. Glasgow Girls Under-17s will also be at the same venue following their 6-2 semi-final victory over Falkirk/Tullibody. See Match Action Reports Special.
