Greetings Fellow NARI Members, I want to thank all of our guests that joined us for our general meeting. We had quite a few new guests introduce themselves and their companies. I also want to thank Hamilton Parker for a great evening at their showroom. It was nice seeing their newly remodeled fireplace showroom. We hope you enjoyed Joe and Dale’s presentation from CEDIA. They had a lot of good information as well as a vast amount of resources for all of your low voltage and smart home needs. They have a beautiful showroom in Cleveland and are very willing and able to help you with your project here locally. “BOO!” Yes, Boo at the Zoo is underway and you should be hearing all about it on the radio. I want to thank Joel Walter, CR of NJW Construction for being our project manager this year. He’s done a great job heading things up and will still need help with take down after the event is over. This year’s Lil’ Boo Mansion is better than ever and we couldn’t have done it without everyone’s help, as well as all the hours of our NARI staff. Thank you! Our year end Holiday Awards banquet is coming soon. Please plan on attending for our award winning evening. It’s a great way to show your coworkers your appreciation and to see what everyone’s been up to all year. Make your reservations soon! November is election month; I hear Steve Watters approves this message! Please join us at our November general meeting and help us vote in our 2013 NARI Board of Directors. We will also have a presentation on Universal Design. Plan on attending for a great evening hosted by Ferguson on November 15th starting at 6:00 pm. A message from NARI National President, Dean Herriges, MCR, CKBR Dear NARI Member;

We want to take this opportunity to remind you about a great program that can earn money for you! As you may know, we have a relationship with The Home Depot. We want to leverage this relationship to put money back in your pocket.

As part of the program, you can receive a 2% rebate based on purchases you make at The Home Depot. All NARI members in good standing are eligible for this rebate. The 2% rebate is paid by The Home Depot directly to you twice per year. In order to begin earning your rebate, you must be enrolled in the program and then register the accounts you use or plan to use to pay for items at The Home Depot (i.e. credit cards, checking accounts, and keytag accounts). To make it as easy as possible for you to take advantage of this rebate, we have put together three simple options to get enrolled and register your accounts: Go to: https://cpr.homedepot.com and follow the on-screen instructions or refer to the attached Program Enrollment Guide. Call the toll-free number: 866-333-3551 and a Home Depot Support Center associate will enroll you and register your payment information (their support center will call this “tenders”). Be sure to tell the representative that you are in the NARI program. If you do not complete one of these steps, you should expect a call from the Home Depot Support Center Team. If you receive a call from them, please know that they will tell you they are calling about the NARI rebate program, they will ask for your company information, they give you a use name & password. In order to ensure you are speaking with an authorized account representative, please ask them for the verification code - NARI402 - This is for your protection, so you can feel safe providing this information over the phone.

We are excited about this program & exclusive NARI benefit for you! If you have any questions please feel free to reach out to Judy Carlsen at (847) 298-9200 or at [email protected]. Thank you for participating in this revenue- generating program!

Home Remodeling Spending Set to Accelerate Cambridge, MA – An improving housing market and record low interest rates are driving projections of strong gains in home improvement activity through the end of the year and into the first half of 2013, according to the Leading Indicator of Remodeling Activity (LIRA) released today by the Remodeling Futures Program at the Joint Center for Housing Studies of Harvard University. The LIRA suggests that the seeds for what appears to be a very robust remodeling recovery have been planted, with annual homeowner improvement spending expected to reach double-digit growth in the first half of 2013. “After a bump in home improvement activity during the mild winter, there was a bit of a pause this summer,” says Eric S. Belsky, managing director of the Joint Center. “However, the LIRA is projecting an acceleration in market activity beginning this quarter, and strengthening as we move into the new year.” “Strong growth in sales of existing homes and housing starts, coupled with historically low financing costs, have typically been associated with an upturn in home remodeling activity some months later,” says Kermit Baker, director of the Remodeling Futures Program at the Joint Center. “While the housing market has faced some unique challenges in recent years, this combination is expected to produce a favorable outlook for home improvement spending over the coming months.” The Leading Indicator of Remodeling Activity (LIRA) is designed to estimate national homeowner spending on improvements for the current quarter and subsequent three quarters. The indicator, measured as an annual rate-of-change of its components, provides a short-term outlook of homeowner remodeling activity and is intended to help identify future turning points in the business cycle of the home improvement industry. The development of the LIRA is detailed in “Developing a Leading Indicator for the Remodeling Industry” (JCHS Research Note N07-1). In July 2008, the LIRA was re-benchmarked due to changes in the underlying reference series. These changes are explained in “Addendum to Research Note N07-1: Re-Benchmarking the Leading Indicator of Remodeling Activity” (JCHS Research Note N08-1). The LIRA is released by the Remodeling Futures Program at the Joint Center for Housing Studies of Harvard University in the third week after each quarter’s closing. The next LIRA release date is January 17, 2013. The Remodeling Futures Program, initiated by the Joint Center for Housing Studies in 1995, is a comprehensive study of the factors influencing the growth and changing characteristics of housing renovation and repair activity in the United States. The Program seeks to produce a better understanding of the home improvement industry and its relationship to the broader residential construction industry. The Harvard Joint Center for Housing Studies advances understanding of housing issues and informs policy. Through its research, education, and public outreach programs, the center helps leaders in government, business, and the civic sectors make decisions that effectively address the needs of cities and communities. Through graduate and executive courses, as well as fellowships and internship opportunities, the Joint Center also trains and inspires the next generation of housing leaders. For more information, please visit www.jchs.harvard.edu.
