Welcome to the Spring 2015 edition of the Eton Manor Reporter.

Race reports and results from the Chingford League are towards the end. This was a great season for the women’s team who were victorious in the Senior Women’s category and the Veterans’ Category. Many congratulations to all who raced.

A new committee is now in place, and you’ll see their pictures, with the positions they hold on the back of this edition.

Another velopark run was held in January and was another success.

Another great January moment was our victory in the annual mob match against Vicky Park – the first time for a very long time that we have won. A great celebration afterwards in the Hare and Hounds with the singing of the Eton Manor Song, which sportingly the Vicky Park runners joined in with too.

The Love 2run group did their 5k at Hackney Marshes parkrun and received their medals, and decided they wanted to carry on. So there is a new group called Still Love to Run who are targeting a 10k in July in the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park. They are all busy training both at the track on a Monday night and at the clubhouse on Thursdays.

Training schedules are published on the website and are built around races. The facebook page is always busy with news about training, about races and other events.

There are more of Tom’s fascinating pen portraits and we’re into the 2000s now.

This is my fifth issue as Reporter Editor, and I’ve enjoyed doing this job enormously. Sadly, my work is so busy now that I am having to stand down. Compiling this edition I have been grateful for the help of Claire Fisher who has assembled some of the results and written some interesting features on strengthening. Claire will now assume the role of Reporter Editor and I will help her as much as I can. Do think about writing a race report or any other feature – if you’d like to then just let Claire know – it’s enormously helpful.

North of the Thames XC Championships at Kingsbury

October 25th at 1.30

Paul Boddey writes:

After an enjoyable summer on roads and paths, the cross country season has finally arrived and we can get back to what we do best: mud and hills. A team of six ladies and sixteen gents (plus several keen supporters) arrived at Fryent Country Park in North London for the North of the Thames races. An overcast morning gave way to a sunny afternoon, and the going turned out to be good to firm, with only a couple of muddy spots.

The three mile ladies race began at 2pm. Zoe W was first Manorite home (and winner of her age category), with Taryne not far behind. New recruits Sara & Olivia put in great runs, hot on the heels of a fast finishing Jenni Hall. Club secretary Rachel kept up her good form and ensured all the ladies finished in less than 25 minutes.

The five mile men’s race began at 3pm. 132 runners on narrow trails made for a congested first lap, but once the field spread out we could get into our stride. The two Pauls (B & C) pushed on for top 50 finishes, with a further seven Manorites making it into the top 100. Young Niklas proved you don’t need your own shirt or even your own spikes to produce an excellent debut run. Our veteran rearguard showed great determination and all received rousing cheers from the Manorite supporters gathered at the finish.

The mild weather and gentle undulations provided a great way to ease ourselves into the winter season, and look forward to the sterner tests still to come. Thanks to all our supporters and to Sara for baking and sharing a fabulous post-run cake. I think my sister summed the day up with her parting comment: “you’re so lucky being part of Eton Manor, everyone is so nice” … QED.

And first-time at cross-country for Sara Garstecka, who writes :

There is definitely a Marmite-like sentiment to cross-country racing – you love it or hate it, with very little grey area in between. Having never done any XC racing before, I approached this event with guarded enthusiasm, expecting the worst and hoping for the best.

Kingsbury proved to be, to my delight, a rather mellow and easy-going 5 miles (7.5 miles for the men) around the meadow. With just one boggy spot and one gentle hill runners wearing spikes were really the only hazard

Page 4: The Reporter May - Eton Manoreton-manor.com/attachments/article/50/Eton Manor... · A new committee is now in place, and you’ll see their pictures, with the positions they hold

As usual it was a great effort from Manorites. Well done to Olivia, who also debuted in the XC scene. It was particularly good to see Adrian back after injury, and Nick who did a stellar job competing with the adult men. Thanks for a great introduction to XC and for making it easy for me this first time round! UTM!

Club Winter Handicap in Jubilee Park

November 1st at 2.30 pm

Adrian Frost writes : There was a record number of 32 finishers for the Winter Handicap this year. This compared to 22 in 2013 and 15 in 2012. And there was a new course. Thanks go to Rob Sommerville for marking ot our first ever 5m XC race in Jubilee Park. The course may not be quite as scenic as Hackney Marshes but it does have the advantage of being nearer the club. Also we were able to use the café as race HQ and for refreshments afterwards. Thanks are also due to Bill Bennett for timekeeping and to the various marshals to helped. There was an exciting finish with Tomas Stasionis overcoming a tough handicap to win, just pipping Terry Lavell by 3 seconds. The first lady home, and the fastest lady was Claire Wagh.

Essex County Vets at Chigwell Row

Saturday 29th November at 11.00

Tom Everitt writes:

Eton Manor women showed the depth and strength of the section with Zoe Woodward gaining a superb 13th place, backed up by Claire Wagh in 23rd, Louise Ward in 25th and Taryne McPherson in 26th (with an exciting battle for the line between these last two). This team won the bronze medal out of the 16 finishing teams. There was further back-up from Paula Steere, Rachel Brittle and Christina Watson.

The men’s 50+ team also did well, plaing 8th out of 17 teams. “Mr consistent” Paul Cates was our lead runner finishing 20th, with Ian Lambert 32nd, Dave Daugirda 40th and Dave Campbell 46th. Adrian Frost, John Wilks (making the long journey down from the Midlands) and Patrick Robinson (coming back from injury) completed the line-up

The men’s 40+ category saw only two Manorite entrants : Dan Hall (43rd and Rob Sommerville (50th) so no team placing there.

As with last year's fixture, there was an unfortunate clash with the Met and Surrey League fixtures, affecting the representation from Victoria Park and Vets AC, respectively.

Eton Manor Christmas Social at the Hare and Hounds

6th December 2014

Social Secretary, Dave Daugirda writes:

I should have realised that the run up to Christmas starts earlier every year. Leaving it until October to book a venue for the Manor do was foolhardy!

Anyway, after a couple of near misses and broken promises we ended up at our local, the good old Hare & Hounds in early December, well, you have to wait until December for a Christmas do, right!!

Rita, the landlady, did us proud and the backroom was suitably festive and welcoming as Manorites started to arrive. The food spread was a credit to her as well, as even a hungry group of runners couldn’t finish the feast. As usual with such a convivial group of people, the conversations (not to mention the drink!) flowed and the evening went in a flash, with a couple of skilfully negotiated juke box extensions and the associated dancing, we managed to extend proceedings past mid-night . . . . I think!

So, that was it for another year, I won’t leave so ‘late’ to start looking for a venue as Christmas 2015 approaches.

Ware Cup at Loughton

December 13th at 11.00

A slightly lower turn-out than the previous year but conditions were good. The women’s team had a particularly good day with three of the first four runners being Manorites. And they were narrowly pipped to the title by Vicky Park by dint of the last scoring EM runner being placed slightly lower than their last scoring runner. Otherwise points were equal. Well done ladies. There was a great turnout from our men who were also placed second. UTM!

Baton relay at Marsh Lane

Tuesday 16th December at 7.30pm

This year it really was the “Baton Relay” thanks to Dan’s box of Christmas Crackers which were used for the handovers , writes Tom Everitt.

After the usual last-minute adjustments to teams due to no-shows and late bouts of coughs and colds we got under way pretty much on time, with a record number of 18 teams + two individuals charging up Marsh Lane for the

Page 10: The Reporter May - Eton Manoreton-manor.com/attachments/article/50/Eton Manor... · A new committee is now in place, and you’ll see their pictures, with the positions they hold

first leg.

First to appear coming back into the park from Seymour Road was young Toby Markham, fresh from this summer of multi-track victories. He knocked a massive 2’20” off his previous year’s time. He was backed up by Rob Ellis and Paul Boddey who ran the fastest two times of the evening – 6:31 and 6:22 respectively giving the “Toby Jugs” a clear victory by over 2 minutes.

The second team “The Seelanders” had an above par first leg from Seelan Vishnuthevan followed by in-form Zoe Woodward (just failing to improve on her last year’s age-best by 2 secs) and Simon Cottle coming back from injury.

Third place went to “Dave’s Daugooners”, just 7 seconds adrift with Rachel Brittle running the first leg one second short of her PB of 9:16. That was three years ago – last year she ran 9:19 and the year before 9:18. Pretty consistent!

Socially it was another successful Manor evening with a bring and share buffet and Joan’s warming mulled wine, which gave us the strength to crawl up to the Hare and Hounds – now pretty much our regular haunt.

YOUR CLUB NEEDS YOU!!

Dear Manorites

Remember that a friendly successful club like Eton Manor doesn’t run itself!

It’s great to see so many people at the club house, so if you can contribute towards the marvelous time we’re having in any way then don’t hesitate to talk to any of the committee members (mugshots on the back cover.

Marshalling, racing, writing race reports, supporting at races, press, communications – these are just some of the ways you might be able to offer help

Mob Match v VPH at Leyton

Tuesday 6th January at 7.30pm

Tom Everitt writes:

The mob match against Vicky Park was first run in 1928 and has run every year since, with the exception of the War years 1940-46, and 1979 when it was cancelled because of very icy conditions. So this year’s race was the 79th match. In 2011 we returned to the original format of hosting the event on alternate years. This year we really took advantage of our home staging of the race to record our first victory since 1997 following a run of 17 consecutive defeats.

This annual event has really become a mob match with a total turnout of over 100 runners for the third time in the last four years. This year there were 80 Manorites to 35 VPHers, giving us a comprehensive victory.

The individual winner of the race was Tomas Stasionis in his last race for the club before returning to his native Lithuania in early February. Tomas has given excellent service to the club in his 2 years with us, bringing home many league victories, winning the North London cross country, and achieving high placings in area and national competitions. We all wish him and Jurate the best of luck in their new venture and may health and happiness be with them.

Alex Gounelas was again first woman home with a speedy 17:40. She was closely followed by our new super fast woman Naomi Dews, just 11 seconds behind.

Credit is due to Adrian Frost, Dan Hall and Steve Adams for laying out a new super fast course. Thanks to them and to all the officials, marshals, supporters and runners who helped to make this such a great event.

And what a finale! All went back to the Hare and Hounds for the results, drink and food (not necessarily in that order). The evening was rounded off by a superb rendering of our Eton Manor Anthem “Down on the Wilderness” conducted by Alison Wells with Adrian Frost at the piano. If only we had invited Dicky Franklin along – he would have been so impressed!

Eton Manor at the Velopark

January 30th at 7.30pm

We Manorites like to think of the Olympic Park as OUR park and it is only fitting that we should stage a race or two there. We carefully marketed the second such race as an invitational event only, for people new to the area / club who would like to see what we are all about.

It was a coldish evening, with the usual velo track breeze, however this didn’t deter a healthy crowd of runners, new and familiar faces to tackle the challenging 5km course. We even had the luxury of the course being lit, which as veterans of the Hog Hill course in the Assembly League will testify, is a rare treat.

Watford Half Marathon

Sunday 1st February 2015

Claire Fisher writes:

David Attenborough looks into the camera. “Here, winds of 35mph blow across the park, cooling the air to -2°C and carrying with it the faint smell of deep heat. Approximately 2000 of these creatures have gathered here and huddle together for warmth. At a signal, they will begin a 13.1 mile journey through the Hertfordshire countryside, in search of a technical t-shirt and a medal.”

David Attenborough wasn’t at the start of the Watford half (more’s the pity), but the thought of his narration amused me until I started to thaw out. Despite the cold wind, it was a sunny day and otherwise perfect. The course is described on the Watford Harriers website as undulating, The Norwich half and Windermere marathon are also described as undulating – this was towards the Windermere end of the spectrum!

Although a tough course, it was relatively scenic. We started out through residential streets before heading out onto country lanes and tackling the hills. There was a good turnout from Victoria Park, with Paul Martelletti leading the field home. VPH also took home the men’s team prize. I finished in a steady 1:47, which I was pleased with. All finishers received a decent technical t-shirt (in mens and ladies fit) and a medal. The event was well organised with a heated marquee serving as a registration point, baggage drop and changing area (The portaloos were also the poshest I have seen at a race – carpets and air freshener!) My only quibbles with an otherwise well organised event would be that there was no confirmation of entry (numbers were picked up on the day) and that the group managing the baggage were disorganised – not helpful when shivering runners need warm clothes as soon as possible.

The race itself, was won by Paul Boddey, but everyone who took part was a winner and showed The Manor in the best possible way. There was, as tradition demands a social event after the race and we adjourned to The Leyton Technical for a post-race ‘lemonade’.

Big thanks to everyone who took part and to the organising committee, marshals and helpers, who made the event a success and make OUR club what it is.

UTM!!!

For the chocoholics amongst us, here’s a recipe to try for breakfast, or after training….

Serves: 2

Preparation time: 8 minutes

• 600ml semi skimmed milk chocolate shake • 2 tbsp drinking chocolate • 3 tbsp medium oatmeal • 100g raspberries

1 Place the milk, drinking chocolate and oatmeal in a saucepan and bring to the boil, simmer gently for 5 minutes until the oatmeal is soft.

2 Place the raspberries in a food processor or liquidiser and add the chocolate milk and blend until smooth.

3 Allow to cool slightly before pouring into 2 tall smoothie glasses.

Top tip

- Use frozen raspberries as a convenient alternative.

Love2run 5k at Hackney Marshes

Saturday March 28th at 9.00

A short article written by Nic Papavassiliou in Waltham Forest News promoting our Love2Run course attracted a great group of first-time runners to the training sessions at the Track on Mondays and at the clubhouse on Thursdays. They completed their 5k at Hackney Marshes on 28th March. Congratulations to all. And so successful was this course that these “graduates” have carried on training in a new programme called Still Love2run and are going to be running a 10k in the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park (our park!). Well done to all. Below Chantal tells us of her experience on the Love2Run course.

The beginning of my 0-5k journey with Eton Manor Athletics Club started on a freezing February night at Walthamstow track and ended with a 5k park run at Hackney Marshes eight weeks later. Somehow, I ran for 34 minutes (the most amount of time I have ever run for); weeks earlier I was unable to run for 8 minutes without my muscles and lungs burning and hurting! Every week, all beginners are supported by the inspirational and experienced Eton team leaders. You are given clear and achievable goals, and everyone runs at their own speed. I kept my own pace as I knew my own abilities. Some weeks I wanted to give up but I did not, I had the 5k in my mind and wanted to run it, regardless of how slow I might be! I also made new friends and formed our own Saturday running group which helped my motivation and fitness. This course has been one of the most challenging and difficult but life-enhancing and rewarding things I have ever done. As much as being physically ready, if you tell yourself that you 'can' do it, wanting to stay indoors and sit on the sofa and watch EastEnders will come second to tying on  your running shoes and hitting the pavement to meet your running group. The exhilaration of completing the 5k generated the biggest adrenaline rush I have ever had, and that I will never forget.

I did something for Red Nose Day by dressing up in a funny costume every Monday during training up to Red Nose Day. I managed to raise money at pool and track to help children all around the world for homes, water, Ebola and much more. All donations could improve their world.

Well done Eoin!

Both Toby and Chris attended the Indoor Disability Athletics Championships 2014 at Lee Valley today. Competition as usual was tough and both Toby and Chris represented Eton Manor well. Toby achieved Gold on the U20 60 meters and 200 mtrs and bronze in the U20 shot events. Chris got bronze in the U20 800 meters and 4th in theU20 400 meters. Great day out with a great atmosphere.

It’s clearly been a great winter season for the Youth Section. You can see their times in the reports on races they ran with the senior section. These include the Velopark run on January 31st and the Baton Relay just before Christmas.

Well done to Trevor and all the junior team.

Tom’s pen portraits part 4

Tom continues what he calls his “ramblings” and we have reached 1978. We were introduced to Paul Cates in the last edition, and in 1978 Michael Cates, Paul’s younger brother had his first outing for the club as a 9-year-old in the Chingford League. He went on to compete at distances from 400m to ultras, and was for many years our number 1 senior, winning the Halstead Marathon in 2003. He won his county vest for distance running, and still puts in appearances for the club when he can.

Also in 1978 Keith Adams made his debut aged 9 and carried on to the senior races. Like most club runners he was an all-year competitor running track and field in the summer and cross-country in the winter. Keith’s speciality was track and field, where at times in the Southern League he covered as many as 10 events including pole vaulting, hurdling and running, gaining the team many points. He also served as treasurer of the club for a few years.

1980 saw the first appearance of Roger Alburey, who also still runs for the club occasionally. Roger also opens up the club on Sunday mornings for any members who want an extra training run in the week.

So we reach the 1990s. Deciding on a change from football, Steve Adams followed his brother Keith to the club. To this day Steve is a very influential club member. He has held several posts, including Captain, and is now the treasurer. Steve was heavily involved in arranging and organising the successful Centenary Celebrations in 2013. Perhaps his finest competitive performance would have been the fastest overall time in the South of England 12-stage relay, had it not been for a heavy downpour of rain which washed away the chalk guide lines and submerged a marshal. Steve sailed slightly off course, and if he hadn’t taken a nifty little left turn he might still be out there now! But seriously, Steve has been and still is one of our most reliable racers, with his best years being 1994-96 when he clocked 17:57 round the old Eastway 5k and 2 hrs 15 mins for the Essex 20-mile.

1993 was momentous in that it saw the emergence and the beginning of the women’s section of Eton Manor AC with the arrival of Pam Ackland-Snow and Christina Watson. Pam started racing almost immediately whilst Chris eased

into racing more gradually and went on to become Ladies Captain for many years, and still races regularly. Pam went on to become our first female club secretary for a couple of years before spending many years as coach to the junior section in track and field. A few years on we gained the service sof Gail Brennan, Sarah Linklett, Steph Baxter and Sasha Ackland, and this team went on to wind the Chingford League in the 97/98 season.

Chingford League relays at Highams Park

Back row l to r : Judy Marchant, Kate Merrett, Sasha Ackland, Rachel Jagger, Front row l to r : Sarah Linklett, Pam Ackland-Snow, Gail Brannan.

In 1997 Adrian Frost and Ian Lambert joined the club, and both are still competing regularly, now in the V55 category. Ian has picked up several Vet age wins including an overall winner of the DLR 5 in 2003 with a time of 27:59. Adrian is another of our consistent racers, even turning out when not 100% fit, notably in the 2013 North of the Thames Cross Country when he ran with his arm in a sling to ensure that we had the obligatory 12 members in the team. He has also been Club Captain in recent years.

1998 saw the arrival of another reliable club man – John Few. Now in his 70s, John has retired from Cross-country but is still churning out his regular high-quality road runs. He was the Essex County V70 winner in 2013, his final cross-country season, adding this to his many age-category wins in the summer Assembly League every year since turning 60 in 2003. John was for many years the editor of the Eton Manor Reporter and wrote a book about the club for the Centenary year. John’s partner Theresa Persighetti followed John to the club the following year and soon joined the racing fraternity. She still runs the occasional race. She was also club secretary for a while, and now helps out as a run leader with the beginners

At the end of 2014, we conducted a survey to find out what members wanted in terms of training. Everyone was encouraged to take part, and we got a great response: 48 people completing it, ranging from new members (9 who had joined in the last year) to old (17 who had been coming along for more than 5 years). Thank you to all who took the time to complete it, and for all the comments you provided.

The survey mainly covered the core training sessions offered by the club. Most people knew that there is a published training schedule (for those who don’t, it’s on the website). The results highlighted a few areas where the training could be improved and the committee has either made changes or is looking at ways to do so. A few of the key areas are:

-‐ Keeping speed sessions on a consistent night of the week: these now happen on Tuesdays

-‐ Some people felt the speed sessions should be longer: so blame the survey if you’re finding these harder than they used to be! But of course they’re supposed to feel like hard work….

-‐ Ensuring that everyone has someone else to run with – some members expressed concern that there wouldn’t be anyone of their pace to run with on the Tuesday and Thursday sessions. This has started to happen with a second group often coming together, including to speed sessions, and there is usually more

Training survey

You told us, we listened…

In 2000 Zoe Woodward joined us, and has been a very useful asset to the women’s section, helping the club to many team wins. Zoe has won many individual age category titles, and is now, in her 50s, running as well as ever.

-‐ than one group going out on Thursdays. However, this will work best if more people come along as we are then more likely to have enough people to split into different pace groups. If you are new to the group, you won’t be left on your own so please do come along and give these sessions a try!

-‐ Bridging the gap between Love2Run and the main club sessions: the committee is looking at this but Love2Runners are definitely encouraged to come along to the clubhouse sessions on Tuesday/Thursdays.

-‐ Sunday runs – many members didn’t know about these, so reminders are now regularly posted on Facebook.

We hope members enjoyed having the opportunity to give feedback and we’ll be looking to do this again in future. However if you have any thoughts or suggestions there’s no need to wait until the next survey – feel free to speak to a committee member in the meantime. Thanks again for all your input!

Claire Fisher writes:

Someone once described runners as falling into one of three groups – injured, recovering from injury or about to get injured. It strikes me as a little pessimistic, but the chances are most of us will have had an injury or will get an injury as a result of running at some point! However, there are ways of reducing your risk of injury, such as building training steadily and easing off when something hurts. Strengthening exercises can also help in the prevention of injury, the theory being that if muscles are working optimally then the risk of over-use decreases. In this issue of The Reporter I’d like to talk about gluteal strengthening.

The gluteal muscles consist of three muscles – gluteus maximus, gluteus medius and gluteus minimus. They help to extend and abduct (move your leg out sideways e.g. when doing star-jumps) the hip, rotate the thigh and stabilise the pelvis.

Gluteus medius works with the internal and external oblique muscles (located either side of your six-pack) of the abdomen to stabilise the pelvis when walking or running. Weakness of gluteus medius is not unusual and can play a factor in injury – particularly iliotibial band (ITB) syndrome.

Strengthening

As with any weakness or injury, the body compensates in order to continue functioning. With gluteus medius weakness there is an increase in lateral movement and a subsequent decrease in forward movement. This equates to a less efficient gait; basically, it can make you slower! Strengthening the muscle can improve gait efficiency and reduce overuse of compensating tissues.

There are a variety of exercises that can be done to strengthen gluteus medius. Single-leg squats and shoulder bridges work as static strengthening exercises, whilst lateral band walks using a Theraband (or an old pair of tights it you don’t have a Theraband handy) are more functional.

Page 29: The Reporter May - Eton Manoreton-manor.com/attachments/article/50/Eton Manor... · A new committee is now in place, and you’ll see their pictures, with the positions they hold

Shoulder bridge:

Lie on your back, and bend your knees placing your feet hip width apart.

Place your hands on your ribs and breathe in (you should feel your ribs expand).

As you breathe out, draw your stomach in and lift your bottom off the floor. The aim is to keep your body in a straight line from chest to knees, without arching your back. Try to hold for 20-30 seconds. For increased resistance you can place a Theraband around your thighs whilst keeping your legs hip width apart.

Single leg squat:

I would recommend doing this in front of the mirror initially to make sure you have the correct form. Stand on one leg and make sure your hips are level. Bend your supporting leg slowly keeping your knee in line with your toes, then straighten again (one rep). Try 5 reps foot each leg, increasing in increments of 5 as you get stronger.

Lateral band walks:

Physiotherapist Adam Meakins has a great video demonstrating the correct technique for lateral band or crab walks here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JDHiqwItrsM He also has a couple of other “glute band walks” that can be used.

On a final note and probably teaching your granny to suck eggs; if you have an injury or aren’t sure of the appropriate exercises for you - see a professional! Dr. Google is great for self-help but won’t be able to carry out a physical assessment or be able to apply the relevant knowledge.

CHINGFORD LEAGUE

A super muddy Chingford League season, but with some great results for Eton Manor with both the Women’s and Women’s veteran teams topping the league.

Individually, Alex Gounelas won the senior women trophy with a clean 5 race victory, with Naomi Dews in 3rd and Zoe Woodward 5th. In the Vet women category, Zoe placed 2nd, with Clare Wagh 5th and Taryne McPherson 6th. In the Supervet men’s category Paul Cates was 5th, and in the Supervet women’s category Zoe Woodward was 1st with Louise Vacher in 4th.

It’s worth pointing out that his year, the men’s and women’s races were held and scored separately, so the women’s results have a slightly different look to them

This wasn’t the best date for a Chingford League Race, but it’s a pity we couldn’t muster more than 6 men, giving us just enough to complete one team. But well done to The Six – Paul, Daves C & D, Adrian Steve and Robert. Ten of the women’s team ran, getting great results again to maintain their positions as leaders of the senior and vet’s competitions.

Chingford League Relays at Wanstead Flats

21st March 2015

Tom Everitt writes:

The finale of the Chingford League for this 2014/15 season was the usual Cross-Country relays, given an added interest this year by holding the races at a new venue, in Wanstead Flats, instead of Highams Park. The organization of the event and the layout of the course were excellent and

Page 34: The Reporter May - Eton Manoreton-manor.com/attachments/article/50/Eton Manor... · A new committee is now in place, and you’ll see their pictures, with the positions they hold

thanks are due to Quin Broadbent and Bob Jousiffe for their hard work on behalf of the League.

There was a great turnout from the club, and we were able to field 3 Men’s, 3 Women’s and 2 mixed teams out of a total of 39 teams.

Our Women’s A and Vets teams both finished second on the day to a very strong Barnet Squad, but this was good enough to hold on to the heard-earned positions at the top of both divisions and to round off an excellent season. Well done ladies!

The Men’s A team finished 5th on the day and the B team 4th – our highest placings for many years
