Providence RI has just been ranked in
the top 3 Best U.S. Cities by Travel &
Leisure Magazine in their November
2010 issue.
Readers chose from over 35 cities from San Francisco to New
York in competition on many categories, from theater to res-
taurants.
Providence RI came in at #2 for the best Theatre and Performing Arts venue after
New York City. Providence has Trinity Repertory Company , which is renown for their
stage productions. Remembering that Brown University has an acclaimed play righting
school many of the graduate playwrights remain locally and do their writing for Trinity
Rep. In addition, Providence has the Providence Performance Arts Center which attracts
productions from around the country and is well thought of.
The November issue of GQ Magazine declares Providence to be one of the “Coolest Small Cities in America.
Providence is called a “mini-opolis in GQ Magaines’s November issue. ” Providence ranks
#11 with the distinction, “The most interesting city in New England sure isn’t Boston.” It
goes on to say, “what Providence lacks in fratty Irish bars, it makes up for with a vibrant
art scene and the renegade character of a bastard son.” AS220, Al Forno, E & O Tap,
Julian’s, Nick’s and the Armageddon Shop are all cited in the complimentary piece.
“Besides the fact that it is always fun to kick Boston’s butt, I think the GQ article validates
our marketing strategy,” said Kristen Adamo, Vice President of Marketing and Communi-
cations at the Providence Warwick Convention & Visitors Bureau. “We position Provi-
dence as a quirky, hip city with a vibrant arts scene and world-class restaurants. Just this
month, we’ve seen the GQ ranking, Esquire naming Cook & Brown as one of the best new
restaurants in the U.S. and American Style tapping Providence as a top arts destination for
