The Penitential Act ( the 4 forms)

1st form: The Confiteor ( I Confess)I confess to almighty God

and to you , my brothers and sisters, that I have sinned ,

in my thoughts and in my words,in what I have done

and in what I have failed to do,*through my fault, *through my fault,

*through my most grievous fault;therefore I ask the blessed Mary ever-Virgin,

all the Angels and Saints,and you, my brothers and sisters,

to pray for me to the Lord our God.

(* We make a fist with our right hand and strike our breast, over our heart. This is an ancient way of showing guilt and sorrow for our sin.)

( The Gloria)

Glory to God in the highest,And on earth peace to people of good will.

We praise you, we bless you, we adore you, we glorify you,

We give you thanks for your great glory,Lord God, heavenly King, O God, almighty Father.

Lord Jesus Christ, Only Begotten Son,Lord God, Lamb of God, Son of the Father,

You take away the sins of the world, have mercy on us;You take away the sins of the world, receive our prayer;

You are seated at the right hand of the Father, have mercy on us.

For you alone are the Holy One, you alone are the Lord,You alone are the most high, Jesus Christ,

With the Holy Spirit, in the glory of God the Father.Amen.

I. The Introductory Rite( The Collect)

This prayer closes the Introductory Rites. In this part of the Mass the priest gathers

up or “ collects” all our prayers, and offers them to God, through Christ.

At the end of the prayer, we say AMEN.

II. The Liturgy of the WordThe two things to remember about the Liturgy of the Word: God speaks to us because God loves us. God’s word is food that nourishes our

hearts, our souls and our minds.

II. The Liturgy of the Word(Silence)

The first reading: this is usually taken from the Old Testament. During the Easter Season, it is from the Acts of the Apostles, taken from the New Testament, instead.

The Psalm: this comes from the Book of Psalms in the Old Testament. The word “psalm” comes from a Greek word meaning “ a song that is sung.” The psalm is usually sung.

The second reading: this comes from the one of the letters or other writings in the New Testament (but not from the Gospels).

The Gospel reading: this is taken from one of our four Gospels in the New Testament: Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. Gospel means “good news.”

II. The Liturgy of the Word(The Homily)

In the words of the homily, the priest or the deacon shows us that God is alive and is healing, challenging, forgiving, and saving us today.

II. The Liturgy of the Word( The Creed)

The Creed sums up the main teachings of the church in one text.

Hearing the Word of God helps us to believe more deeply in what God does, and so in response we stand to profess our faith.

The Apostles’ CreedI believe in God, the Father almighty,

Creator of heaven and earth,and in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord

*who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary,suffered under Pontius Pilate,

was crucified, died and was buried;He descended into hell; on the third day he rose again from the

dead;He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the

Father almighty;From there he will come to judge the living and the dead.I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the

communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and life everlasting. Amen.

The Nicene CreedI believe in on God, the Father almighty,

maker of heaven and earth, of all things visible and invisible.I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ, the Only Begotten, Son of God,

born of the Father before all ages.God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, consubstantial with

the Father; through him all things were made. For us men and for our salvation he came down from heaven,

*and by the Holy Spirit was incarnate of the Virgin Mary, and became man.For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate,

He suffered death and was buried, and rose again on the third in accordance with the Scriptures.He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father.

He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead and his kingdom will have no end.I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life,

Who proceeds from the Father and the Son,Who with the Son is adored and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets.

I believe in one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church.I confess one baptism for the forgiveness of sins

II. The Liturgy of the Word(The Prayer of the Faithful)

This prayer is sometimes called the Universal Prayer. We pray this in this order: The needs of the Church; Those in public office (elected leaders

and rulers of all kinds) and the salvation of the whole world;

Those who are having a hard time of any kind;

The local Church community.

1.( The Presentation and Preparation of Gifts)

The key elements of this meal are bread and wine ( in remembrance of the Last Supper /Passover meal).

Together with the gifts of bread and wine, we also present ourselves to God.

2. ( The Eucharistic Prayer- Holy, holy)

Holy, Holy, Holy Lord God of hosts.Heaven and earth are full of your glory.

2. (The Eucharistic Prayer- the memorial acclamation)

We proclaim your Death, O Lord, and profess your Resurrection until you come again.

OrWhen we eat this Bread and drink this Cup, we

proclaim your Death, O Lord, until you come again.

Or. Save us, Saviour of the world, for by your Cross

and Resurrection you have set us free.

2. (The Eucharistic Prayer-the great Amen)

This is the time we sing our Amen. Amen means “YES” – I believe, I agree, I’m involved. It’s a four letter word but it says a whole lot!

3. ( The Communion Rite)

The Communion Rite has 4 parts:a.) The Lord’s Prayerb.) The Rite of Peacec.) The Fraction Rite (to break)d.) Communion

Response after the Fraction Rite

Lord, I am not worthy that you should enter under my roof,

but only say the word and my soul shall be healed.

The Concluding Rites Commissioning (sent on a mission)

happens during the Concluding Rites. We are sent out to transform the world-

our families, schools, sports teams, jobs, and communities.

Each one of us is called to let the Lord’s light, peace, mercy, and love shine through our lives.
