Good-bye Mrs. Henderson By Georgina Ramirez

Mrs. Henderson is one of the best teachers in the world! I can explain in six

words; nice, pretty, funny, cool, awesome, amazing. She helped me through

fifth grade, and it is sad that she is retiring this year. I think she will be good

and happy. She has been working here for 30 years. That is a lot. We hope

you will have a great life Mrs. Henderson.

Luau in the Library

By Yessenia Sanchez

On May 23-27, there was a Luau in the library. There

was two new games added this year. They were indoor

horse shoe toss and a chameleon bean bag toss. Of

course, the old favorites like Bingo were still there. Did

you know there was over 6,000 pieces of candy? Stu-

dents had to return all of their books and pay any fines to

attend according to Mrs. Hinde.

Did you hear about the Book Fair on April 11th? There were tons of books, pens, bookmarks, posters, and much more. Everyone was having a blast! Our librarian, Mrs. Hinde was happy to see everyone purchasing educational books and oth-er items. Ridge Crest raised $4,ooo in Scholastic Dollars to buy more books and to buy a carpet for the story-time area! We couldn’t have done it without you guys! We hope you keep helping us

so that we can have more amazing fairs!

Have you ever got bullied? I have and it does not

feel good. When you pick on someone, it makes them

feel sad. There are many people trying to stop bully-

ing like Mr. Brooks, Mr. Mandelbaum, and Mrs. Moti.

Be nice and stop bullying. Everyone should be nice to

one another. You might make a new friend. Don’t

pick on someone for what is on the outside. It is

what’s on the inside that matters. So, if you see

someone alone on the playground, ask to be their

friend, and you will be a good person.

The History of Earth Day

By Jordyn Doherty

Imagine a world with no trees, plants of flowers. What if the

rainforest and all of its colorful animals did not exist? These

were just a few questions Earth Day founder, Gaylord Nelson

had on his mind back in the 1960’s. His inspiration came be-

cause of the oil spills he witnessed. He decided it was time

to take a stand. He went to Washington D.C. where he met

with John F. Kennedy to speak with him about all the environ-

mental issues that were impacting our earth.

After years of planning and speaking to the government

about the pollution on earth, on April 22, 1970, 20 million

Americans went out and rallied for a healthy sustainable envi-

ronment. We are still fighting for a clean environment but it

is more urgent today than it was back in the 1960’s. We are

now experiencing climate changes all around the world due

to pollution of our air.

It is so very important that we take care of our earth. Make sure you

recycle and plant a few trees.

There was an assembly at Ridge Crest for “Pennies for Patients”. Pennies for Pa-tients lets kids donate to kids in the hospi-tal diagnosed with leukemia and other cancers. Leukemia is a blood cancer. The money gets donated to the hospital so they can use the money to get the medicine they need. Each student gets a box to take home and fill with pennies. They bring it to school and empty it in a bigger box in their classroom. The class that raises the most money gets a pizza party. We raised $828.82 ! I’m sure the kids in the hospital are happy someone is helping them.

Memorial Day By Kylie Higgs

Memorial Day is special to me because many people in my

family served in the military. I interviewed Laurence Emerson

Higgs, my father, whom is an air traffic controller.

Kylie: What do you like about your job?

Laurence: I like my job because it’s very complex.

Kylie: I see. Could you tell me about your past in the military?

Laurence: I joined the Air Force at age 21, and spent ten an a

half years on active duty . I was stationed at Williams Air Force

Base for eight years and two and a half years at March Air

Force Base. My job was and still is of an Air Traffic Controller.

Kylie: That seems very interesting and brings me to wonder if

you went overseas.

Laurence: I served one tour in Saudi Arabia in support of Oper-

ation Desert Storm and Desert Shield in the early nineties. I

am a veteran of the Iraq War. When March Air Force Base was

realigned to a Guard Air Force Base, I got out of active duty. I

currently am still employed at March Air Reserve Base.

My father is an interesting guy as well as his story.

I know many things about Johnny Apple-

seed. First, he planted apple trees. I gave

them to the poor people. Next, he loved na-

ture, plants, and animals. Last, he wore a pot

on his head because he wanted to hold the

seeds. Clearly, Johnny Appleseed was a kind

man.

Our Chicks By Josue Barragon Room 10

My class incubated eggs! First, there were chick eggs. The chicks grew inside the eggs. The yolk is the stuff that the chicks would eat inside the egg. The egg shell keeps the chicks safe. The top of the egg is called the air cell. The albumin gives the chick water. The chicks poke the eggshell for on a long time. The chicks have to poke all around the shell. It takes the about an hour to poke through the shell. After the chicks poke all the way through, the chicks are very wet and very tired. After the chicks hatch, they are in an incubator. If someone takes them out of the incubator the chicks

would be cold. Chicks are cool.

“Down here in the Underground, love is

shared, Flowey said while holding the

friendliness pellets. Are you ready?" “OK

stammered Spoopy. Catch as many as

you can!” Flowey exclaimed. Spoopy

dodged the pellets. “Hey buddy, you

missed them.” Flowey said with anger.

“Let’s try again, okay?” Spoopy dodged

all the pellets again. “Is this a joke?”

Flowey yelled. “Run into the bullets!!” I

mean friendliness pellets!” Spoopy

dodged all the friendliness pellets. “You

know what’s going on here don’t you?

You just wanted to see me suffer!”

Flowey exclaimed. “Wha-No!” said

Spoopy. Flowey made all the friendli-

nesspellets go around Spoopy.

Undertale By Maziah Stuart

“What's up Spencer?” Dimitri asked. Honestly he really did-

n't know . He felt strange. “I feel like my dad is hiding some-

thing from me. “ Dimitri came alongside him. “All scientists

hide something from everyone, even their family.” Spencer

sighed. "I know but why from me, his son?” He saw his dad

look both ways then go through a door. Spencer got to his

feet and went after him. When he walked inside, it was dark

except for an eerie green glow. Spencer poked his head

around the corner. There was his dad at a desk. He was

writing something. He was in a hurry. Suddenly, there was a

huge crash and a bolt of lightning. Spencer looked away just

to see his dad on the floor, his body smoking. "Dad!” He ran

over to his side. “How’d you do that ?” Dimitri said. Spencer

looked at his hands,” I...I don’t know !”

Did you know there was an “Into the Woods” play held at Vista Heights? The fifth graders went on February 5th.

The story was about a baker and his wife who wanted to have a baby. Sadly, they could not because they were cursed by a witch. To undo the curse, they had to go into the woods and get some items that the witch wanted. On the way they met fairytale characters. They met Red Riding Hood, Jack and the Beanstalk and Cinder-ella. They helped the couple by giving the

baker and his wife different items for the witch. The witch received the items and the curse was broken. Their baby came soon after.

My favorite part of this play was when the characters sang and acted out the parts. My favorite character was Cinderel-la. If I were to rate this play, I would give it five stars.

Jungle Book By Carlos Martinez

The fifth grade classes of 2016 went to Harkins thea-ters to watch The Jungle Book”. It’s a story of young

Mowgli. He was an orphan “man cub” raised as a wolf and hated by the vicious predator tiger, Shere Khan. There were several intense moments. The movie is gorgeous with clear messages about the importance of

courage, teamwork, family, and friendship.

Herobrine

By Zyggy Anguiano

The Minecraft legend myth started when a player claimed to be in a one player world dur-ing his live stream. He saw a default Minecraft skin but with no eyes. After that, more Hero-brine sightings happened in some Minecraft streams. There are many Herobrine sightings on Youtube, but some are fake and some are real. Remember, if you see something in the fog, is it your friend or Herobrine?

I liked this myth because it is spooky. I give it four stars.

FNAF World

By Zyggy Anguiano

FNAF World is a RPG ( role playing game)

based on the horror game Five Nights at Fred-

dy’s. It is cute but a dark secret. You have to

find six clocks. It is a great way to end the

FNAF series. You get to fight other characters

from Scott Coffin’s other games. It is a great

game that you can get for free. Go get it now

on your home computer.

I give this game five star rating. It is very dif-

ferent from the other RPG games because it is

scary.

End of The School Year

By Georgina Ramirez

It is almost the end of the school year. It is cool for some kids but sad for others be-cause they will not see their friends for 2 1/2 months. It may be really hot, so make sure you stay hydrated, go swimming, and go over to your friends house. Summer is amazing to almost all people. We came to school on August 12 and are leaving on June 10. We have all accomplished a lot of things. Kids are going to move to differ-

ent grade levels.

Have a happy year everyone !

If you are always trying to be “normal”, you

will never know how amazing you can be. Maya Angelou

Thank you teachers for your phenome-

nal support through out the year.

Have a fantastic summer!!!
