may compete with the circus but seeing the crowds that filled University of Dayton arena this weekend is proven truth that people love the Shrine Circus! This was also the weekend that we introduced advertising about our Antioch Shrine Sportsman’s Raffle. With a table and banner and raffle tickets for sale, the public has been made aware of this great event coming up in September 2018. The volunteers that manned the raffle table sold a HUGE number of tickets! What an incredible way to start this out! Each club and unit showed interest in how they can become a part of this event coming up. All of you will be hearing more about this in the future and every time I get a chance to speak! I was honored to have the Illustrious Sirs and their ladies from Mizpah, Tadmor, Al Koran, Akbar and Syrian Shrine Centers join us this weekend and they all added their compliments on how we offer the circus to the local public. This is a great way to exchange ideas and allow our Nobles to meet these great Shriners and Ladies from around the Great Lakes area! We also had guest clowns from Syrian, Moslem and Aladdin Shrine Centers join our Funsters in entertaining the paying guests. My many thanks to all of these visitors! The guest ringmasters also made the fun just that much more memorable. There are so many Nobles and Ladies I wish I could mention personally. In this article I do wish to thank our Legion of Honor in the posting

of the colors, the Provost for crowd assistance, the crew that kept the troops fed and watered in the Oasis and the many Divan Ladies and Lady clowns that helped in the suites. It takes many people to make the circus work. Be very proud of the contributions you have made and continue to make. Please continue to read through this Crier to see all the activities that are coming up. All of these to add entertainment and fellowship to your life and continue to show you that Antioch is alive and a magical place to take ownership in! Enjoy each day and tell someone that you love them! Support your Blue Lodge and Shriners Hospitals for Children. Don’t forget our Antioch Foundation and everything it does to support our building and scholarships. Be active, get involved and FIND A NEW MEMBER!! Membership is the lifeline of Antioch. Together We Can Make Magic Happen!Illustrious Sir Bret StahlerPotentate 2018

It is very late on Sunday night and another Shrine Circus is now history. What a circus it was! Lions and Tigers and Bears, Oh My!! This was definitely the theme for this circus. So many smiling faces and laughing children of all ages sitting in the seats and enjoying the best family entertainment anywhere is a great source of motivation. I had witness to all of this and more. With all the Nobles and Antioch family members volunteering and meeting and greeting circus fans is one more reason to be an Antioch Shriner! It takes all of us to make events succeed and we did it again. I heard so many great comments from patrons and Nobles about this circus and it gives proof we know how to do it. We can’t control the weather or other forms of entertainment that

Shriners believe in philanthropy.

When you become a Shriner you become part of a brotherhood of men committed to family, engaged in ongoing personal growth, and dedicated to providing care for children in need. While our backgrounds and interests may be diverse, what binds us together are shared values and a desire to have fun, do good, and build bonds that can last a lifetime.

Becoming a Shriner is easier than you may think. The rewards can be far more than you expect.

Visit our website.

You’re a brother and a friend. You know you can make a difference. You’re a Shriner.

PHOTOUNITBy Noble Bruce E. Puff Spring is almost here, and we all have had our fill of the photos of the grandkids in the snow. Everyone was all white, so, we don’t know if they are good or bad shots. Like the snow, The Party at the Beach, Circus, and Monte Carlo Night are now but a flash on the Memory Cards. The Beach Party had an interesting visitor, and a couple beached whales. Well, check out the photos, on Antioch’s Lobby T.V.’s. The Circus was “Great” again, this year, with tigers, camels, bears, and horses. The Big and Small Horse Act was interesting to shoot. With 7,500 frames shot, the Photo Unit has a few good pictures. Plus, we can’t separate between the Nobles working shot or the Funsters antics. With the Monte Carlo Night, everyone went home from a good time and a few “BIG” winners. The Photo Unit meets the 4th Wednesday of the month, at Antioch, and with a flash, We start at 7:30 p.m. Most of all, always smile, there’s a photographer getting you on film.

PROVOSTGUARDBy Noble Tom Hail The Provost Guard Nobles and their Ladies were highly involved with the Antioch Shrine Circus last month. The “work” is forgotten and only the memories of the great time we had remain. It was a different circus from what we have had the past years but they had really good acts and the crew members we interacted with were very personable. We are looking forward to our Shrine parades and are making some minor upgrades to our uniforms so we look even more professional! God Bless America

CLASSICCARBy Jim Matthews, Director I would like to thank all of the Classic Car Nobles and their ladies who helped usher at this years Circus. We held our first Unit meeting of 2018 last month and would like to welcome High Priest and Profit Scott Fitzgerald as our Divan representative for this year. Our officers for 2018 are Jackie Butler, President Jim Smart Vice President, Tom Lees Treasurer, and Harold Bourghton Secretary. August 26 has been set as the date for our annual car show. More discussion regarding the show and possible new ideas will be held at our next meeting. It should be noted that the show is bolstered by the participation of other Units, Clubs and Nobles making this an event for all of Antioch Shrine. Car Care Tip: Your car brakes are one of the most essential and possible over looked part of your car. If you hear break noise, feel the breaks pulling, the break pedal drops lower or is harder than usual, feel a vibration or grabbing, and if the break light comes on get them checked immediately.

We’uns cum out of the holler lookin’ to see the ground hog and durned if we didn’t trap him.. he was mighty tasty! We installed our new occifers and made a former first Lady a Possum Queen complete with her own pet possum and a carry case. we had gud food includin’ ground hog, chickin and cabbage rolls. And a big table of the best desserts ever. After eatin’ we played games on paper and even got gifts if we won. we played Valentine bingo too and cud eat the markers! What a time!! The hole time we wuz there this big black crow watchin’ us! I don’t know fer sure what he wuz after but I think he may be related to someone there.... Cum to our next meetin’ on the first Friday of March and bring a friend. Don’t forget to bring some fud to share.

Come on spring! Cannot wait to get those E-Wheels out and running!Just a reminder, keep those batteries charged. Our Director, Ron Rhodes, thanks all of the Patrolmen who worked the Shrine Circus. A big tip of the fez to you. The Patrol has seen a lot of changes over the years, we are the oldest unit of Antioch, formed in 1898. We have changed from Arab Patrol, Patrol, Marching Patrol, and now back to Patrol. Our membership has been as high as 100+, it is now less than 20. Help us keep the tradition alive, members are needed and we have E-Wheels available! See our Director Ron Rhoades if interested in joining a fun unit. As always our thoughts and prayers to those patrolmen, and their families, who have health problems.

ANTIOCHGUN CLUBBy Noble Tom Hail We have a really great meeting lined up for this month: on Wednesday, the 21st our regular meeting at Antioch will be open to ALL our Nobles, Ladies and family members. We will have refreshments starting at 6:30pm and at 7:00pm local Attorney Joe Stadnicar will be our guest speaker. See you at Antioch and until then : be safe.

ANTIOCHSENIORSBy Noble Bruce E. Puff The Seniors may not hop, skip or jump a lot, but sure are ready to move on into Spring, and put the snow blowers away for the Summer. The Senior’s Breakfast is still “A Big Hit”, and giving a Kettering’s Blue Lodges’ 1st Saturday of the Month Breakfast a run for the money. Our Senior’s gave out a flower to Our Brothers/Nobles Ladies who attended Our Brunch, for Valentine’s Day, this month. Most of all, The Senior’s Nobles’, no matter what other Unit and/or Club, that they were with, worked the Circus with, “More Pride & Worked Harder”, which made Antioch’s Circus Great again for another Year. A few of the elephants and camels fell in love with some of The Senior’s Young Men. The Senior’s meet every Tuesday morning, the doors open at 9:30 a.m. and maybe a little early for those that like to play cards. All welcomed, Bring a friend, and with a $1 donation for the doughnuts and coffee.

ParadeEscortBy Noble Michael Hayslip, Secretary The February meeting of the Parade Escort was held at Bennets Publical in Miamisburg where our Ladies joined us for dinner. Noble Bruce Adamson, Outer Guard, was in attendance to swear-in our officers for 2018. The Ladies were very patient with us as we held our regular meeting in an adjacent room. I am pleased to announce that we voted to accept our newest member of the Parade Escort, Dane Coyle. Welcome Dane!

PIPES ANDDRUMSBy Noble Everett Bailey, Director Well, the circus is in the books for another year and as always I enjoyed seeing the excitement on the kids faces. I think the circus was poorly attended this year. One extra pair of helping hands at just one show might make the difference between one of our customers having a good time or having an excellent experience. The Pipes and Drums will be playing at the Irish club on St Paddy’s Day, and after that we will be playing at the Shrine Center. The world famous snare drummer Dale Biddle will be with us this year to add a new dimension to our tunes. We look forward to seeing everyone there. As always we would like to have new pipers and drummers join our band. If interested I can be reached at 937-974-8196.

By Noble Louis Caston, Commander

Legion ofHonor

Greetings Nobles: As I write this we are preparing to Post Colors for the Circus Performances. It is always an honor for the Legion of Honor to represent Antioch as a Veteran, a Mason and a Shriner. As a Shriner it’s all about the kids and doing whatever we can to help the world’s greatest philanthropy: Shriners Hospitals for Children. “In no other profession are the penalties for employing untrained personnel so appalling or so irrevocable as in the military.” General Douglass MacArthur Please keep our members that may be sick or distressed and all of our veterans, wherever dispersed, in your thoughts and prayers. THE ANTIOCH LEGION OF HONOR WANTS YOU! Membership is limited to Nobles that are serving or have been Honorably discharged from the Armed Forces of their country.
