Elaborate p;o- giams are rendered by the choirs in a large lumber of the churches of the city, as niil be seen by a peri sal of the appended list. One of the functions of music is to voice the religious asp.rations of the human soul. and the themes suggested by the events in the history of Christianity have employed the best endeavors of the lead¬ ing composers of the world. To interpret the works of those roasters, as well as to assist in the devotions of the day. is the purpose of the careful preparation made by the singers in the various churches.
