Well, 2016 was a bittersweet year for Bruce and I, we lost a few wonderful people in our lives, but we did have a wonderfully active year also. I lost over 40# and we had a fabulous beach vacation to Hilton Head Island! How did you do on your goals for 2016? After looking back, I really didn’t do too bad on mine, much bet-ter than I had in the last several years. I am striving, by watching all of you, to live a more active lifestyle. I heard that it takes three years to make new habits become a new life-style, so I have one year under my belt so two more until this active life is my new “normal”. I see all of you and all that you do and I want that wonderfully physical and active life-style and we are getting there!

I’ll give an update on how my goals for 2016 went:

I finished 5 of 13 5k races that I com-pleted this year in under 50 minutes!

I worked with the Gilead House in being the Race Director for their 5k in Sep-tember and loved working with that great group of people!

I have started reading Our Daily Bread each day including the scripture refer-ence and I took a couple Bible study classes at church. I am really enjoy-ing getting into God’s word each day and talking to Him about what I read.

I didn’t get a walking group going at my church….but I would still like to get this done.

Bruce and I did ride from our house to Peru and back once this year; this was a 34 mile and almost 4 hour ad-venture, but we did it!

Thank you all so much for your kind words and encouragement while I am on this jour-ney, it really has meant so much to me. I could not do this without God’s guiding hand and your support. Please continue to keep our Club mem-bers that are facing illness or who have lost loved ones in your prayers. How awesome that we can lift each other up in prayer and encourage one another in the Lord!! Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sis-ters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God – this is your true and proper worship. Romans 12:1

The weather does not always want us to have a walk/run but the Lord has other things in mind! We were able to complete our 5K with minimal rain at the beginning and a torrential down pour at the end. However, people were gracious and willing to come support this amazing program to help others in our world! There were club members who ran and walked. As a result, we were able to raise over $22,000 to date with the run ($2212.00)/walk combined together. Thank you to the club members who made additional contributions to HESP. Your contributions and support help feed, clothe, and provide education for 85 children in their school in HAITI. There were many volunteers who helped make this happen. Thank you to Stan Shuey who took care of the logistics and set up the course. Thank you to Mark Shorter for taking care of the registrations and registration table that day. Thank you to Rick Weed who was the co-chairperson. Thank you to my lovely ladies who have supported this program and event for six years. This includes Molly Hedrick, Pax-tyn Bailey, Ashley Cone, Hannah Sexton, and Amy Cone. Please visit these businesses for their contributions and donations: Jimmy Johns (sandwiches), Sunspot (fruit), Coca-Cola (soft drinks), Windmill Grille (gift card), Barker’s Hot Dog (coupons), Freedom Financial (bottled water), Starbucks (coffee), McAlisters, Red Lobster, Grindstone Charlies, Golden Corral, Family Video, Gabe’s Pizza, Windmill Grill, Texas Roadhouse (gift card/appetizer card), Banners Flowers (gift card). In addition, Doug Vaughn, (Rite Quality/President of HESP) was awarded the EVERYDAY HE-RO award. He received $5,000 to distribute to the charity of his choice. There was an article in both pa-pers. Please google it if you missed the opportunity to read what amazing things Doug has accomplished for others. Thank you for the continued support of our Club Kokomo board and members. Thank you for your $100.00 sponsorship. Your friendship is appreciated! Vicki Boles- HESP Race Director

Below is what the CK Constitution currently says:

7. Volunteers at Club Kokomo races.

(1) Club Kokomo members shall receive 20 points in lieu of running the race, no points for fun runs.

(2) Can receive the 20 points only once during the point year.

(3) The “volunteer race” shall count towards the number of races needed for the point awards. However a volunteer race is not

required for point awards or any award given by Club Kokomo.

(4) The race director must submit a list of his volunteers immediately after the race to the editor.

(5) This amendment is retroactive to December 1, 1997.

A new proposal allows for a club member to be award points for 3 events (30, 20 & 20). The 2nd reading and discussion will be held at the January meeting.

Proposed the following:

7. Volunteers at Club Kokomo organized and owned races

and the Club Kokomo Coyote Kids running program.

volunteer points” once in a points year.

(3) Club Kokomo members, not serving as race director, can receive volunteer points twice in a points year.

(4) The “volunteer race” shall count towards the number of races needed for the point awards. However a volunteer race is not

required for point awards or any award given by Club Kokomo.
