Castle Hill Police will also increase monitoring of this area over coming days. PRIMARY PROMS CONCERT Last night was one of those evenings when one feels so proud to be working in public education as I was fortunate to attend the 2018 Primary Proms CoorongConcert held at the Sydney Town Hall. Twenty-nine members of the North Rocks School Choir delivered an amazing performance as part of the combined choir comprised of fifteen public schools. The chil- dren sang beautifully and delivered a wonderful repertoire of songs. Congratulations to all the children involved and thanks must go to Miss Mah, Mrs Mahony and Miss Mah (Junior) for their work preparing the children for the performance. 2018~ Term 3- Week 9 At NRPS we value RESPECT, RESPONSIBILITY, SAFETY, HONESTY

FROM THE PRINCIPAL END OF TERM 3 Once again it is hard to believe this is the last newsletter for Term 3. The school term will conclude on Friday 28 th Septem-ber and Term 4 will commence on Monday 15th October. As we approach the end of what has been an incredibly busy term, I would like to acknowledge the wonderful work of the students and staff throughout the term. Academically, within the arts and on the sporting field, the NRPS students have excelled in so many ways. I wish the entire community a happy restful holiday and look forward to another very productive Term 4. May I ask the community to please keep watch over the school during the vacation period? If you observe any suspicious people or behaviour around the school, please contact School Se-curity on 1300 880 021. STRANGER DANGER ALERT I would like to remind the community and the children to be vigilant and stay safe around strangers. This morning, a staff member informed Castle Hill Police about a gentleman acting suspiciously in the area around Rifle Range Creek, near An-drew Place and Woodlands Road. The staff member was not approached by the gentlemen, however, his movements through the reserve were considered unusual. If you or your children access this area, I would encourage you to take extra care and ensure children do not pass through without adult supervision. TELL THEM FROM ME SURVEY Each year parents are asked to participate in a survey to assess North Rocks Public School's performance from the parent point of view. As a key stake holder in the school, this is a great opportunity for you to participate in your school and reflect on performance which will inform the school’s vision and direction for the future. The school encourages your feedback so please take the time (approximately 15 minutes) to complete the Tell Them From Me survey as this survey is an invaluable tool. The link to the survey can be found below. https://nsw.tellthemfromme.com/nrps18 OUT OF THE SHADOWS BAND CONCERT Well done to our training band and our concert band for their performances at Out of the Shadows concert last Tuesday night. The students have worked very hard showing great discipline and lots of practice to get to where they are. We are lucky to have wonderful tutors and conductors through TSA to work with the children to instill a love of music and a passion for performing. PRE SCHOOL CONCERT Our pre-school concert, held on Tuesday, was a huge success. Our Kindergarten students are certainly growing up fast and were great ambassadors for our school, telling and showing the preschoolers what they will experience next year. We were pleased with the number of children and their parents who attended the concert and are looking for-ward to our 2019 Kindy Orientation program beginning next term. STAFF CAR PARK – STUDENT SAFETY Recently, the school has noticed a sharp increase in the number of parents using the school carpark as a student drop-off and pick-up point. This practice is not safe and certainly unacceptable and I ask parents to use parking available within Don Moore Reserve or the shopping centre as a safer alternative. We would never want to experi-ence accidents between children and cars, so please help us keep the safety of the students as our top priority. LOST PROPERTY At present we continue to hold a very large amount of lost property which is accumulating in our lost property room, next to the uniform shop. Surprisingly, many items of clothing are unnamed and some items include the new winter jackets which only became available this year. Before the end of term, I strongly encourage students and parents to look for items of lost property. Teachers have also begun returning labelled items to children. AFTER SCHOOL USE OF SCHOOL PLAYGROUND EQUIPMENT The fixed playground equipment is a wonderful resource for helping students develop their gross motor skills whilst having a lot of fun at school. I would like to remind students that once they are released from class in the afternoon, they are to go straight home, to OOSH or to their bus lines. They are not to go and play on the playground equip-ment. If parents are with their children in the afternoon and they allow their children to use the fixed equipment af-ter school, the responsibility for supervision rest with the parents. In the interests of safety, please supervise your children whenever they are using the equipment outside of regular school hours. KINDERGARTEN ENROLMENTS FOR 2019 With Term 3 now underway, I would like to remind parents that enrolments for Kindergarten 2019 are now due to be returned to school. If you live in our school catchment area and have a child who will be starting Kindergarten next year, please visit the front office for an enrolment form. This will ensure the school can maintain places for all our in-area students. I would like to thank those families that have already visited the school and completed their enrolment details. Mr Rob Ieroianni Principal

P&C PRESIDENT’S REPORT The NRPS fete was a resounding success, it was as busy a day as I’d seen at the fete! A massive thankyou goes out to all those who volunteered on the day, the final results will be out soon and we could not have done it without you. I would like to publically thank the outstanding fete committee. I won’t mention every-one by name as I’ll only end up missing someone but to all those great individuals who have given up many Tuesday nights in the lead up and many other days and nights in the organising, I can’t thank you enough! Sitting as the parent representative on the PRG committee for the new build we will be going through, I was delighted to hear from Helen Elliot as she opened our fete. Helen is the wife of the Honourable Member of Baulkham hills David Elliot and opened the fete in the absence of David. Helen confirmed that the new build would be air-conditioned which is an absolutely fantastic outcome. The P&C meeting was held on Tuesday the 18th at 7:30pm in the staff room, discussion was held on a range of issues and events. Updates were given on the including the new build, uniform changes with Scorts for girls along with items such as the end of term barbeque. It is a good meeting to be involved in so if you have time, we meet on the third Tuesday of each month, come along! John Bolwell P&C President

Hills Public Speaking Competition Last Tuesday 11th September, Joshua Hong and I went to Dural Public School to represent our school for the Hills Public Speaking Competition. Even though I went with my mum and grandma, I felt scared because I thought the hall was going to be bigger and I wouldn’t be heard at the back, but it was pretty small so that was a relief. Joshua came along with his Mum & Dad but wasn’t too nervous at all. Joshua & I had to sit up on the stage with the other competitors in our order for speaking. First we listened to the nine Year 4 speakers. They were all very good! After that, nine Year 3 students presented their speeches. I was second last. Our topic was ‘Something starting with M’. Mine was about ‘MANNERS’! Joshua’s topic was ‘A rule to Smiling’ and was second last also. Both Joshua and I did very well. After we finished the judges announced the winners and runners up. It was fantastic to hear that I was the win-ner of the year 3 section and Joshua was the winner of the Year 5 section. Both Joshua and I felt stunned but very, very happy! I was lucky enough to be chosen for this great experience which I will never forget. Joanna 2/3W

GARDEN CLUB

Garden club harvested green bean seeds and planted them this week. Some kids took home seeds to plant at home.

Gardens provide fun for growing plants, eating produce, composting, playing with the garden creatures and are great places to read a good book. Enjoy your garden!

Penny and Amanda.
