Introduction

Gradual shift of interest from the analysis of

the finished product of a written text to the

actual strategies adopted by a writer in the

process of writing.

Change in focus from the role of teacher as a

evaluator to a facilitator.

Aim of this paper

To give a brief overview of ideas about

process writing in order to show that feedback

plays a crucial role in the development of

writing process.

To discuss about process of writing, role of

feedback, forms of feedback.

The Process of writing

Janet Emig’s (1971) research concluded that

‘teachers tend to underconceptualize and

oversimplify the process of composing.’

Process of writing or Strategies adopted by good writer

Zamel’s (1983) study of the composing process

of six skilled writer made the following points

about strategies adopted by good writers……….

Brainstorming, planning and note taking.

Revising to make global changes, i.e.

structure organization.

Rereading large parts to asses the continuity of

ideas.

Not hampered by linguistic competence, often

resorting to write word in L1

Idea of feedback is fundamental

element of the process approach of

writing (Keh,1990).

Can help student deal with problems

of articulation, by asking question

which help students by clarifying

ideas & by supplying them with

information.

Help to make interaction more

overt & reciprocal and help to

develop skills in making their

writing more accessible to the

reader.

Reduce the cognitive strain created

by the pressure of writing at the

same time.
