The following “A Prayer in response to the coronavirus outbreak and all illnesses” is composed by Bishop Edward C. Malesic:

Lord Jesus, in our time of need, we bring our fears and concerns to you in faith. We are grateful for your closeness to us as we confront the adversity of the coronavirus

and all illnesses as they affect those we love and countless others. Jesus, tend to those who are suffering at this time, especially the elderly and the weak. Reading 1: Ez 33:7–8 Thus says the L : You, son of man, I have appointed watchman for the house of Israel; when you hear me say anything, you shall warn them for me. If I tell the wicked, “O wicked one, you shall surely die,” and you do not speak out to dissuade the wicked from his way, the wicked shall die for his guilt, but I will hold you responsible for his death. Reading 2: Rom 13:8–10 Brothers and sisters: Owe nothing to anyone, except to love one another; for the one who loves another has fulfilled the law. The commandments, “You shall not commit adultery; you shall not kill; you shall not steal; you shall not covet,” and whatever other commandment there may be, are summed up in this saying, namely, “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” Love does no evil to the neighbor; hence, love is the fulfillment of the law.

Gospel: Mt 18:15–20 Jesus said to his disciples: “If your brother sins against you, go and tell him his fault between you and him alone. If he listens to you, you have won over your brother. If he does not listen, take one or two others along with you, so that ‘every fact may be established on the testimony of two or three witnesses.’ If he refuses to listen to them, tell the church. If he refuses to listen even to the church, then treat him as you would a Gentile or a tax collector. Faith Formation

Vocation Corner Last week, we began exploring the resources present with us that assist us in discovering God’s plan for our lives. The formal word for doing this type of discovery is discernment. It involves reflecting on our experiences and our current knowledge while noticing God’s actions in those experiences and seeing how they lead us closer to Him (or take us away from Him!). When we reflect on our past, the most prominent moments often include our family and inner circle of friends. That is why we speak of the importance of the domestic church in forming a life that has God as its center. No matter how young or old we are, we can acknowledge that the people who are closest to us have an immense impact on what we do and how we live. One of the hardest parts of Christian discernment is that you sometimes have to go against the will of the ones you love in order to follow God’s will. Even the best parents might have agendas for their children, or our friends may think our plans are crazy, but if we are truly seeking God through prayer and consciously listening for His will in the silence of our hearts, we are definitely on the path of discerning His plan for our life. ---- The Vocation Ministry Team

C M M The St. Joseph Christian Mothers will have their first meeting after the summer recess on Thursday, September 17th at 6:00 p.m. in the social hall. There will be a catered boxed meal at no cost to members. Attendance is limited to 25 members. All CDC guidelines will be followed. Masks are required. Anyone attending may update their dues. Members under age 70 are $5.00 and over age 70 are $2.00. Members not attending the meeting can drop off their dues in an envelope addressed to the Christian Mothers by placing it in the collection basket or by sending it to the Parish Office. Throughout September, an additional weekday Mass will be held at 9:00 a.m. on Thursdays at St. John the Evangelist Church for the faculty and students of St. John the Evangelist Regional Catholic School. Anyone may attend these Masses, while adhering to social distancing policies. In October, when the regular weekday Masses return to St. John the Evangelist Church, only the Thursday Mass at St. John will begin at 9:00 a.m.; the other weekday Masses at St. John will remain at 8:30 a.m.

P R We have resumed praying the Rosary prior to the Sunday Mass at St. John the Evangelist Church. Please arrive early (10:00 a.m.) and join us in praying to our Blessed Mother for her intercession.

News For Our “4” Parishes S M C 2021

Beginning the first weekend of October, Mass and Candle Intentions for 2021 will be accepted. ALL 2021 intentions should be submitted to the Parish Office by using the scheduling form and returning the form to the Parish Office via the collection basket or mail. Please do not call the Parish Office to schedule 2021 intentions, as the forms are marked when they are received with the date and time, and the intentions are scheduled accordingly on a first come-first served basis. The first weekend in October, the Intention Forms, along with the Scheduling Policies, will be placed at the church entrances and will be posted on the parish website (www.faysouth.org). For those who do not have access to a computer or are not attending Mass at this time due to COVID-19, the Parish Office will mail out Intention Forms with Policies upon request, but not prior to the first weekend in October. Please read the Mass Scheduling Policies before filling out your form. It is also helpful to look at a 2021 calendar prior to choosing dates as Mass requests are not accepted for Holy Thursday, Good Friday, Easter Weekend, Mother’s Day Weekend/Father’s Day Weekend, Thanksgiving Day, All Saints Day, Christmas Eve/Christmas Day. Weekday Masses are celebrated as follows: October through March at St. John the Evangelist and St. Joseph Parishes; and April through September at St. Mary Nativity and St. Therese Parishes. Keep these locations in mind when making your weekday choices. Due to the high volume of requests in comparison with the limited number of available dates, our policies state that Mass intentions are limited to two requests per household (not two requests for each of your deceased loved ones). These two Masses may be one weekday and one weekend, or two weekday Masses. This allows more parishioners the opportunity to request Masses, along with providing room in the schedule to remember those who pass away next year. In order to avoid a backlog of Masses that cannot be satisfied in a reasonable amount of time, it becomes necessary to send Masses to the Diocesan Mission Office for distribution, or to another parish in need of Masses. If your loved one has Masses recorded in the Parish Mass Register (Masses that were turned in at the time of the funeral), it is appropriate to designate them for use. Simply write in “Use Funeral Mass” when filling out your Mass Intention Form. No offering is required for these Masses, as payment was made when they were turned in. succeed. To increase the visibility of Mary House, our organization will participate in FAYETTE GIVES on November 12th, a project of The Community Foundation of Fayette County.
