That Man is You! is designed as a 26-week interactive multimedia men’s program capable of appealing to men in a media-dominated culture. It meets for 13 weeks in the Fall and 13 weeks in the Spring. Each session has three essential elements: social gathering over a meal, DVD presentation and small group discussion. Organized around a central theme for each program year and presented through the lens of 7 Steps that make it simple for men to follow, this engaging content is delivered in 26 sessions, divided between Fall and Spring semesters. The sessions will take place on Saturday mornings, beginning on September 21st from 7:00AM-8:25AM here at St. Vincent’s. To register online visit our website or go to Paradisusdei.org, scroll to the bottom and click on “Find A Group Near You” or sign up after Masses this weekend. For more information, contact us at 908-647-0118.

Parishioners Matt Zolnick, Greg Allen, Don DeFabio, Shawn Gallic, and Tom Welsh are Core Team members and leaders for the That Man Is You! program forming in our parish. The following is the text of the invitation which is offered to encourage men to participate. We would like to thank Fr. Richard for giving us the opportunity to talk with you about a program called That Man Is You! This program tackles real issues facing real men. It looks at the leadership role that has been entrusted to men and addresses the temptations and struggles men face in a culture that attacks authentic manhood. Ultimately, it helps formulate a plan that allows men to overcome these obstacles. This program will be hosted every Saturday morning in the JPII Room in our church basement beginning on Saturday, September 21st for 13 weeks. This will be followed by an additional 13 week program in the Spring. We begin each session by gathering at 7:00AM for breakfast, coffee, and some time for fellowship. At 7:30AM we begin a presentation that combines the best scientific research with the teachings of the Church and wisdom of the saints. This is followed with breakout groups at 8:00AM that provide the opportunity to discuss what has been presented. We will conclude each program at 8:25AM to allow time for those men who wish to attend daily Mass in the church at 8:30AM an opportunity to do so. That Man Is You! began in a test parish in Houston, TX in 2004 and has quickly spread to hundreds of parishes across the U.S. and even internationally. Countless men who have participated in this program say that it provides the kind of experience they have been searching for, and some attribute their experiences with this program to helping launch their own spiritual transformations. After today's Mass, we will be available to speak to any men who may be interested in registering for That Man Is You! There is no cost to participate in this program and attendance in each session is to your own benefit. However, if you do miss a session, there is an opportunity to view the session materials online in order to keep up with the program. Thank you for your time and please do not hesitate to reach out to anyone on our Core Team if you have any questions or would like any additional information.

READINGS FOR NEXT SUNDAY First Reading: Exodus 32:7-11, 13-14 God became very angry with the Israelites for worshiping a molten calf and making sacrifices to it. The people had so quickly violated his commandments that he planned to destroy them. But Moses pleaded with God for mercy and God relented. Second Reading: 1 Timothy 1:12-17 Paul considered himself a former blasphemer and persecutor, and expressed his gratitude for the mercy Jesus showed him. Paul felt that he was a perfect example of Jesus' patience toward sinners and his desire to reconcile them with God. Gospel: Luke 15:1-32 The Pharisees grew angry because of the Jesus' compassion toward sinners. In response, Jesus tells of a son who squandered his inheritance, then returned to his father and asked to be treated as a hired hand. The father rejoiced, angering his older and more obedient son. The father explained that everything he owned belonged to his older son; but he had to rejoice for the son who was lost and had been found.

FROM THE DIOCESE

As befitting the mission of outreach to people in need in the Paterson Diocese, the Bishop’s Annual Appeal stands ready to help support the rebuilding efforts of Straight and Narrow. With this terrible fire that has further complicated the lives of those already struggling with often crippling personal issues, your generosity to the 2019 Bishop’s Annual Appeal is needed now more than ever. 10% of all funds raised in the 2019 Annual Appeal, over and above the usual allocation to Catholic Charities, will go toward the Straight and Narrow re-building effort. With your pledge to the Appeal, this could come to hundreds of thousands of dollars to bring new life to Straight and Narrow and the people being served. Parishioners across the Diocese are being asked to support all the ministries and programs funded by the Appeal, including this special effort for Straight and Narrow, when it kicks off in the next two weeks. Contributions can also be made online now at www.2019appeal.org.

LIFE FACTS: DID YOU KNOW?

$60 million in Federal Title X funds will no longer go to Planned Parenthood because they are unwilling to separate their family planning services from their abortion business. However, the New Jersey Legislature voted in June to send $10.456 million to fund Planned Parenthood businesses. In addition, the NJ State Senate President and Speaker of the Assembly plan to schedule votes in both Houses of the Legislature in early September to provide another $8.8 million to Planned Parenthood so it can continue to counsel, perform and profit from abortion. Voice your opinion! Call and write your 3 State Legislators and tell them this is unacceptable! (Reps Munoz and Bramnick & Senator Kean for Long Hill area). Visit our parish website, under Ministries select Life Ministries and on the left select Life Resources for contact information.
