HOMES

The rich Romans had different

houses to the poor Romans. The

rich Romans lived in villas. An

insula was an apartment block.

The top of an insula was made of

wood and the bottom was made of

stone. The rich Romans lived at

the bottom of it and the poor

Romans lived in the top of it. Villas

were lived in by rich Romans.

ROMULUS AND

REMUSRomulus and Remus were twins.

They were thrown into the River

Tiber by their mean uncle. They

were found by a she-wolf by the

River Tiber. A Shepherd found them

they stayed with him until they were

young men. They started to build a

city. One day, Romulus got mad at

Remus and he threw a rock at him.

Romulus had killed him. The city

was named Rome after Romulus.

The romans had many ways

of entertaining themselves.

at the amphitheatre. They

also liked going to baths. In

the bath they would sweat

off dirt , scrape themselves

with a strigil ( a metal stick)

and have a cool swim. They

also enjoyed hunting and

board games. The romans

the food, the richer they appeared.

Some people stuffed chickens

inside ducks, ducks into pigs and

pigs into cows.

people of pompeii were doing their

daily jobs. Then there was a

sudden rumble that damaged a few

homes. Suddenly day turned to

night and lava and ash flew out of

Mount Vesuvius. Pompeii was

buried. 1700 years later a man was

digging in his garden and

uncovered the city. We learnt a lot

from the city.

CLOTHES AND FASHION

Roman fashion changed in the

years. Most people just wore tunics

with a toga over them . People wore

jewellery all over their bodies .

sometimes oiled and curled their

hair. Some people wore a palla.

Women wore jewellery like

bracelets, earrings, necklaces

and anklets.

Roman empire grew. They

took over most of Europe,
