It was the annual Christmas (Holiday) Party.

The Joe Levitt room was packed with members and spouses/guests. There were two differenttables at which wine was being served.

The predominant color was red - not of the wine; of the clothing.

President LARRY rang the bell and welcomed everyone. He told us that the business portion of ourmeeting wouldn't begin until 12:46 - so please enjoy!

He rang the bell again, at 12:46, just as he'd promised, and invited us to join RAY SILVA andPAUL TUMASON in singing God Bless America.

Whereupon SCOTT KNIES gave the "wisdom of the day." It turned out to be a poem by JohnDryden.

President Larry then commented on the warmth of the event and publicly thanked the SalvationArmy, Sacred Heart and the Hospitality Committee for their roles in making the event a success.

CINDY FAULKNER made an announcement about the annual "event." Told us it would be held onthe first Saturday in March. And CARL HONAKER was at a table in the lobby (that is, the JoeLevitt Room), giving out information about the event and taking names of would be participants.

PHIL SIMS was invited to the microphone to make the annual DON GOLDEEN AWARDpresentation. He told us quite a bit about this year's winner - information that not all of us couldhear, because the PA system seemed to be adversely affected by the large number of people inthe room. At any rate, the winner was Mayor CHUCK REED, our own Rotary member. It was ahugely popular selection, as was evidenced by the standing ovation and the lengthy applause. Again, I couldn't hear exactly what Chuck had to say, but I'm assuming it was a gracefulacceptance!

SCOTT PAINE then introduced "The Collaborative." Turned out to be a quartet of young people whosang and danced. One of the four, it turns out, is the granddaughter of our own ADOLPHQUILICI. The act was followed by a couple of announcements by our president, who told us thatthere will be no meetings on December 22 or December 29 and that our next meeting would be onJanuary 5, when our speaker will be GARY SCHLOSSBERG; the subject - The Economy.

PRESIDENT LARRY wished us all a very happy Holiday!

Rotary Smiles

Smiles from Russ Mann from the Rotary Club of Edmonton

A man goes to his dentist, Mel Matsushima because he feels something is wrongwith his mouth.

Mel examines him and says, "That new upper plate I put in for you six months ago is completelycorroded. What have you been eating?"

The man replies, "All I can think of is that about four months ago my wife made some asparagusand put some stuff on it that was delicious: Hollandaise sauce. I loved it so much I now put it oneverything -- meat, toast, fish, vegetables, you name it."

"Well," says Mel, I will have to consult with Dick Campisi.

Dick says, "That's probably the problem. Hollandaise sauce is made with lots of lemon juice, whichis highly corrosive. It's eaten away his upper plate. You need to make him a new plate, and thistime you need to use chrome."

"Why chrome?" asks Mel.

The Dick replies, "It's simple. Everyone knows there's no plate like chrome for the hollandaise.

LOL . . . Merry Christmas!

End Polio Now

Your contribution will help Rotary raise $200 million to match $355 million in challengegrants received from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. The resulting $555 millionwill directly support immunization campaigns in developing countries, where poliocontinues to infect and paralyze children, robbing them of their futures andcompounding the hardships faced by their families.

As long as polio threatens even one child anywhere in the world, children everywhereremain at risk. The stakes are that high. By donating now, you can help Rotary achieve a polio-freeworld.

You can down load the End Polio Now bimonthly news letter by Clicking On This Link. This is aseparate download. It was updated November 2010.

The bottom line is this: As long as polio threatens even one child anywhere in the world, allchildren – wherever they live – remain at risk. You can track progress on the internet at this link.

The Four Way Test

Over 1.2 million Rotarians can't be wrong! In all the things we say and do . . .

Is it the TRUTH?Is it FAIR to all? Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?
