The Ryman LegacySean’s University Interlude

By Mzyra

Feel the joy of a small bit of plot that isn’t depressing!

Page 2: The Ryman Legacy Interlude #1 (Sean)

Hello lovely readers! Look! It’s Sean! And he’s happy!

Of those of you who care, you’ll probably have come to one of two conclusions on the girl:

1) That’s Opal! But hang on, they were arguing last we saw…

2) Ohh, it’s that dormie with the plaits, right? A little creepy though, she does look like Opal…

Group 2 – you’re over thinking things. It is Opal. Isn’t she pretty? But this may still leave you wondering how I’m explaining how they made it up after all the arguments, but thus I have a tiny bit of nice plot (extremely rare for me) to warm your hearts a little.

Read on if you so choose…

Page 3: The Ryman Legacy Interlude #1 (Sean)

It all started when Sean escaped away to university, and actually managed to transition into an outfit that we could happily live with! It was indeed a good sign…

Page 4: The Ryman Legacy Interlude #1 (Sean)

Sean’s main aim for university (besides escaping his slightly crazy family) was getting a good degree and skills with the end being a lot of money, but that didn’t mean girlfriends or at least ordinary friends weren’t on his mind. Chess seemed to be the most appropriate method to meet somebody and have a conversation, so he started up a game…

Page 5: The Ryman Legacy Interlude #1 (Sean)

And soon found himself joined by a girl. Sean wasn’t entirely sure how to start the conversation, but thought that establishing non-Kimmy-ness would be a good place to start.

“So… how do you feel about peace and not fighting? Great philosophy, right?”

“Um, yeah – I’m more of a lover than a fighter, if you get my drift…”

Sean did, but wasn’t sure if he really wanted to get her drift…

Page 6: The Ryman Legacy Interlude #1 (Sean)

Sean was apparently quite popular generally, in fact. Especially when he didn’t want to be…

Random (apparently gay) dormie: *Mmmmm, I’d like me some of that hunk of man!*

Sean: *Ignore the creepy guy checking you out, concentrate on the chess…*

Page 7: The Ryman Legacy Interlude #1 (Sean)

So Sean’s flatmates seemed to be pretty much a dead loss, though maybe friends in some time.

One person Sean was keen to make friends with, however, was his professor – couldn’t hurt and might even help his GPA…

Page 8: The Ryman Legacy Interlude #1 (Sean)

His professor, like seemingly everybody else, had something different in mind…

But who was Sean to refuse really? Maybe the professor did this with every male student she had, but if it helped his GPA and made her happy…

Page 9: The Ryman Legacy Interlude #1 (Sean)

Sean may have sorted any opposition to… ‘befriending’ his professor logically, but couldn’t help emotionally recoiling from being used by a creepy old professor just for his degree, even if it would eventually lead to more money…

Page 10: The Ryman Legacy Interlude #1 (Sean)

The dirty feeling he had left over from giving his professor a backrub did have one benefit – the motivation to find himself a normal relationship with somebody who wanted him specifically.

It was then he spotted a blonde- wait, fake blonde girl in a lot of blue. She was cute, so he started up a conversation with her.

S: “Hey, are you in this dorm too? I though everyone had moved in…”

K: “No, I live in the dorm across the square, but I thought I’d check out what the other dorms were like… I’m Kay, by the way, Kay Almassizadeh.”

S: “Sean Ryman.”

Page 11: The Ryman Legacy Interlude #1 (Sean)

S: “So… Uh, did you catch that varsity football match? Good game, huh?”

K: “No, I’m not exactly a big sports fan, you know…”

S: “Oh. Right.”

K: “Yeah.”

S: “Um…”

K: “I think I better get back to my dorm, you know?”

S: “Oh right, yeah sure. I’ll- I’ll see you around, then…”

Page 12: The Ryman Legacy Interlude #1 (Sean)

Back at Kay’s dormitory…

K: “Nah, their dorms are roughly the same as ours, just a different layout. Some cute guys though, just a little awkward. Kind of sweet in a way.”

O: “Oooh, has Kay got a boyfriend already? I’m not rushing into anything myself. Too many guys think they can kiss you just like that, then the next thing you know you’re married to some lazy slob and have a bunch of kids… I’m waiting for a decent guy.”

K: “You could be waiting a very long time ‘round here Opal, I don’t know why you didn’t just stick with Three Lakes. There are some cute guys there…”

O: “Ugh, don’t even get me started on the boys back home!”

Page 13: The Ryman Legacy Interlude #1 (Sean)

His first conversation with Kay hadn’t gone that well, but Sean decided that he couldn’t give up so easily forever or he’d never find himself a girlfriend. So he decided to stop by her dormitory and try again, this time more prepared.

S: “And so we were sat in the lecture when suddenly the projector stopped working - everyone assumed the lecturer had finished early, but no she kept talking, completely oblivious. Nobody could be bothered to tell her about the projector though.”

K: “Oh my lecturers have problems with the new technology all the time – the microphones are always crackling, one of my lecturers almost deafened the students sat near the speakers…”

Page 14: The Ryman Legacy Interlude #1 (Sean)

K: “You’d figure it can’t be that hard to work out with all the technical support we have – and they get more than enough cash out of us to pay for it – but it’s like every lecture-”

O: “Hey Kay, have you seen my literature textbook? I think the guys took it when they were having a textbook fight yesterday – if they’ve damaged it I’ll tear them a new one…”

K: “Oh, um, have you checked the kitchen? It may have gotten combined with the food fight?”

O: “Hey, is this that guy you mentioned- … Sean…?”

S: “Opal?!”

Page 15: The Ryman Legacy Interlude #1 (Sean)

K: “So…. You two know each other?”

S: “Kinda, yeah… We were in the same class in high school…”

O: “And stuff…”

K: “ … And so this feels incredibly awkward because…?”

O: “Oh, you know….”

S: “It’s nothing really…”

Page 16: The Ryman Legacy Interlude #1 (Sean)

K: “Opal, as your friend, I demand to know the gossip!”

O: “Well… We kind of almost dated once… Sean tried to kiss me, but I wasn’t ready and he got a little upset and stuff. The last time we saw each other we had a massive row in public…”

K: “Do you like him?”

O: “I- Well, I mean- After what was said last time, I really don’t think-”

K: *Sigh* “Sean, can I talk to you a second?”

Page 17: The Ryman Legacy Interlude #1 (Sean)

S: “What did she tell you about me? Because that was a long time ago and I was getting loads of flack from my sister-”

K: “Whoa, whoa, whoa. She didn’t say anything bad, but… Look, Opal’s my friend and I don’t want things to be really awkward-”

S: “Well I can be nice and friendly and-”

K: “No, Sean. Look, we can still be friends and we’re both first years so we have plenty of time to meet other people, but… I don’t want to upset one of my friends for a relationship that I can’t be certain will last. Okay?”

S: “Yeah… I guess so…”

Page 18: The Ryman Legacy Interlude #1 (Sean)

O: “So… You and Sean, huh?”

K: “Nope.”

O: “Huh- But- What? I thought…”

K: “No, I broke whatever it was we may have had off.”

O: “Wait, but- You did that for me? I mean, we never had that big a thing, it was just a stupid teenage… thing. I don’t want to be the reason that you’re… not happy or anything.”

Page 19: The Ryman Legacy Interlude #1 (Sean)

Kay laughed: “You think my not being able to be with Sean’s going to make me unhappy? There are plenty more fish in the sea, Opal! Speaking of which, did you see that guy earlier with the black bowl-cut? I never thought I’d see somebody who could actually work that look!”

O: “You liked that? You have weird taste in men, my friend! But… you’re really not bothered?”

K: “For one guy? Not at all. If you turn out to have dated all the guys on campus, however…”

O: “Hey! Who do you think I am, Nina Caliente?!”

Page 20: The Ryman Legacy Interlude #1 (Sean)

A little while later Opal was playing chess when Sean joined her.

O: “… So who’s stalking who now?”

S: “Nobody’s stalking anybody, I just thought… Maybe we needed to talk.”

O: “Great – you start.”

S: “Oh. Um, okay… Errr…”

O: *Sigh* “Fine – look, I’m sorry that you got so hurt when I didn’t kiss you and I’m sorry that it had to happen in front of your evil twin and everything.”

Page 21: The Ryman Legacy Interlude #1 (Sean)

S: “But it was my fault for trying to kiss you in the first place, right?”

O: “Kinda, yeah. Maybe I could have been more obvious, but…”

S: “Yeah. And I’m sorry that I got all angry and up in your face in Three Lakes. It was just a bit of a shock and Kimmy had been picking on me all holiday… I needed to yell at someone and say stupid stuff. So I did. Sorry.”

O: “Don’t worry about it, it’s all ancient history.”

S: “It’s probably just as well we didn’t end up together, I’d probably only have been a bad influence on you.”

Page 22: The Ryman Legacy Interlude #1 (Sean)

O: “What’s that supposed to mean?”

S: “Well, you’re a pure and good girl- woman and-”

O: “Maybe I would have been a bad influence on you, Ryman.”

Sean watched Opal leave, confused by their sudden mini-argument (and his intense desire to follow her). How could Opal have ever been a bad influence of him? Miss not-going-to-kiss-just-anybody?

But why did Sean think he might be a bad influence on somebody, you ask?

Page 23: The Ryman Legacy Interlude #1 (Sean)

Well Sean had tried earning money conventional ways, like he had tried once before, but, just like when he was a kid with a lemonade stand, the money was slow, the job was boring and there was a sense that… he was being stupid somehow (he guessed that was Kimmy getting into his head). There had to be quicker, more efficient and less degrading ways to make money, even if they were a little… less in terms of morals.

Page 24: The Ryman Legacy Interlude #1 (Sean)

As such, Sean quickly found a way to establish the correct links and discovered what looked like an innocent jobs website, but really, really wasn’t.

Now Sean wasn’t a bad guy really. He couldn’t rob an individual (unless maybe that individual was Kimmy or Kimmy-esque), but institutions and stuff – everybody hated banks and big businesses and stuff, didn’t they? They were cruel and didn’t care about their workers and stuff. It wasn’t that bad. He wasn’t hurting anyone specifically.

Page 25: The Ryman Legacy Interlude #1 (Sean)

There was some stuff going down that night Downtown and so Sean, short of cash, decided to go help out, sneaking through the dorm and out the door, like the ninja he was dressed as.

Page 26: The Ryman Legacy Interlude #1 (Sean)

A little while later, ‘round the back of a warehouse downtown…

1: “Right, this is everybody I expected. The plan is to steal all the expensive, high-tech equipment in this warehouse. Now we two have a lot more experience in doing this and there are several security guards around, so we’re going to head in first, establish the situation, then we’ll send a sign to you two from that window up there.”

Page 27: The Ryman Legacy Interlude #1 (Sean)

1: “It’ll be best if you can reach the window and get in that way, once we’ve unlocked it for you, though one of you may have to give the other a lift. In the meantime, stay out of sight even of the surrounding buildings, be prepared to jump this wall if the guards come around… Oh, and should you get caught, tell them nothing – or nothing true, at least – if you do tell them stuff we will hunt you down and cause you much in the way of pain.”

2: “Yeah.”

1: “If you’ve suddenly changed your mind, run away now and say nothing to no-one. We’ll manage without you.”

Page 28: The Ryman Legacy Interlude #1 (Sean)

Then the talkative female leader and quiet but more threatening male head off around the building to start the mission.

Sean had to admit he was a little disappointed to be left waiting in an alley rather than being at the heart of the action, but maybe it was just as well – he wouldn’t want to get caught and then have his family know what he’d been up to…

But that train of thought wasn’t good when breaking the law, so he distracted himself. If only he could tell something about the other criminal, they could talk better, but at least they had one thing in common…

Page 29: The Ryman Legacy Interlude #1 (Sean)

“So… What made you want to become a criminal?”

“Sean?!”

“Opal?!”

Page 30: The Ryman Legacy Interlude #1 (Sean)

Sean and Opal headed off somewhere better to talk before removing their disguises, completely forgetting their colleagues in the warehouse, who were captured and arrested, and rather peeved at their being deserted. But anyway…

“I never figured you for being a criminal, Opal…”

“I didn’t figure you for one either. I knew you wanted money too, but thought you’d be a CEO or something like that.”

“What big business? Ha, I’d rather not work for ‘the man’, thanks.”

“That’s what I think! See, if I’d known all this about you… How much we have in common… You may not have been rejected for that kiss after all.”

Page 31: The Ryman Legacy Interlude #1 (Sean)

S: “Well… In the interests of honesty, I have to admit I wound up getting my first kiss somewhere else…”

O: “Somewhere else…?”

S: “Katy Fuchs…”

O: “Ha! Sorry, but I’m not surprised, knowing her…”

S: “But you’re not mad…?

O: “No, I mean I didn’t expect to see you again after I went to university, you must have thought the same thing.”

Page 32: The Ryman Legacy Interlude #1 (Sean)

S: “Yeah, I thought I might never find anyone to love me…”

O: “Oh Sean, don’t be so stupid… You were always going to find somebody…”

S: “I have to admit… I’m kind of wishing I hadn’t had my first kiss now…”

O: “Well, I have to admit… I still haven’t…”

CUTE SEAN-OPAL MONTAGE!*

*Sorry if this is lazy, but I took loads of cute pictures and there’s not much to say apart from “Aw!”

A successful first kiss at last!

Hope Opal’s not trying to paint Sean there… She’s not quite as good :P

Page 40: The Ryman Legacy Interlude #1 (Sean)

A year or two of living together later (during which Opal learnt to paint – and therefore counterfeit paintings…) …

Page 41: The Ryman Legacy Interlude #1 (Sean)

“Sean… We’re in our best outfits, outside Londoste, the poshest – and most expensive – restaurant in town. And you’re being romantic. You realise that this is suspicious?”

“You realise that I love you?”

“You realise that you look ridiculous wearing an admiral’s uniform or whatever that is?”

“You realise that you’re gorgeous?”

“You realise that if you spend all our money on this I will tear you a new one?”

“You realise that if you keep complaining we’ll never get to eat?”

“… I love you too.”

Page 42: The Ryman Legacy Interlude #1 (Sean)

“Wow, this must be expensive, Sean… How much are you spending on this?”

“To Opal, the most beautiful - yet difficult - woman I have ever known and loved!”

“To Sean, who’s an admiral, apparently! And he ought to be, so he can afford this food and champagne!”

“You’re lucky I find your obsession with money attractive…”

“You’re lucky I find your admiral uniform actually pretty sexy…”

Sean blushed happily. “Well, before we do anything like that…”

Page 43: The Ryman Legacy Interlude #1 (Sean)

“I guess you probably saw this coming a mile away and will now complain about how much this must have cost too, but you deserve any price in the world…”

Page 44: The Ryman Legacy Interlude #1 (Sean)

“Aw, and it is expensive! And… Yes, it is genuine! I was worried it might have been one of those knock-offs for a moment – would have had to hurt you for that – but it’s worth an amount sufficient that I would be proud to wear it on my finger. As for marrying you…”

Page 45: The Ryman Legacy Interlude #1 (Sean)

“Look Sean, I know I talk about money a lot and tease you and stuff, but you must have realised by now how much I really do care about and love you and how the thought of us ever breaking up for any reason breaks me heart. And that becoming your wife is everything I’ve been dreaming of for months, though a lot of money would also be very nice. Of course I’ll marry you.”

Page 46: The Ryman Legacy Interlude #1 (Sean)

“Hey Opal – you know that meal and champagne was actually pretty expensive… Want to run out on the bill?”

“I’m wearing high heels!”

“Okay, we’ll run out on the bill with me carrying you?”

“… I love you so much sometimes!”

Page 47: The Ryman Legacy Interlude #1 (Sean)

With Sean and Opal engaged, it was graduation time, both of them getting 4.0s in English Literature.

T: *Omnomnom*

N: “This is fun. How come we never do this at home?”

M: “Because we’re busy studying…”

K: “Stop being such a slob, Terry! And could you two be any more boring?!”

Page 48: The Ryman Legacy Interlude #1 (Sean)

N: “So to be a cheerleader you just have to be all cheerful and sunny all the time? I could do that!”

Ch: “That’s not all, silly! You’re only like that to hot guys, teachers and visitors to the university! You’re also meant to be really condescending and mean to other girls and unattractive guys, making them completely miserable, so you look happier in comparison!”

N: “… Do you have to do that?”

Ch: “Unless you want to be some kind of freak!”

N: “… I think I’m good actually, thanks…”

Page 49: The Ryman Legacy Interlude #1 (Sean)

And thus Sean and Opal graduated and looked absolutely adorable.

I wasn’t certain it was going to happen, but when Opal turned out to have the same aspiration and LTW as Sean I knew it was meant to be. That, and the cute and recessive genetics. So soon… Babies!

Page 50: The Ryman Legacy Interlude #1 (Sean)

… I didn’t necessarily mean now! Maybe we ought to leave them alone…

Anyway, back to our normal narrative style next chapter! Coming soon to a computer screen near/in front of you!
