Since the 1970’s John Sample has been the Executive Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of all the business operations in his family’s portfolio.

In 1972, he was one of the seven founding members of the Sydney Chapter of the Young Presidents Organisation, and today remains an active member of the World Presidents Organisation. Over the years, he also assisted in establishing YPO Chapters throughout the Asian region.

John is recognised as an entrepreneur and an innovator. To keep pace with trends in modern business, he regularly attends the Harvard Business School with colleagues from the WPO. This provides fresh insight from current world leaders in business, and the chance to establish new relationships with other business people from around the globe. Most importantly though, it is a forum to seek out new business opportunities which can be integrated into the family portfolio.

He is an active person in several philanthropic ventures and particularly enjoys time spent with his wife, three children and five grandchildren.

John Sample contributes to charitable foundations and sustainable initiatives. He is proud to say that all the companies within the family portfolio are good corporate citizens.

A BRIEF COMPANY HISTORY

An integral part of Australian business since the inception of George H. Sample & Son in 1921.

George Sample was a pioneer in the automotive industry, acknowledged as the first entrepreneur to import after-market spare parts for the burgeoning car industry in Australia.

In 1927, the group was appointed the distributor for Blackhawk Manufacturing Company from Wisconsin USA. This partnership saw Blackhawks high quality tools on sale to workshops throughout Australia. George Sample then setup a factory in Mascot, where Blackhawk & Enerpac were manufactured locally.

The relationship with the automotive sector was maintained with a number of subsidiary companies such as Vane Electrical Instruments, Auto Lab Industries, Gee-Jay Motor Products, & Sample Engineering.

1966Acquired the agency for Lincoln Industrial products

1978Group adopted the name John Sample Group PTY Ltd

In 1946, the family gained the Australian distribution rights for Hewlett Packard, which was run by the Sample Electronics division. This relationship remained until 1967, when Hewlett Packard purchased Sample Electronics to establish their own operation in Australia.

JSG Industrial Systems was formed in 1966, when the group acquired the agency for Sunnen Honing, Hunter Wheel Alignment Systems & Lincoln Industrial from St. Louis USA.

In 1997, the group was appointed the exclusive Australian distributors for Aprilia SpA. This was followed by our appointment to represent Moto Guzzi SpA in 2003. After the Piaggio Group purchased both Aprilia SpA & Moto Guzzi SpA, the John Sample Automotive division continued to represent these iconic Italian brands until 2016.

THE FAMILY PORTFOLIO TODAY

John Sample’s Family Portfolio is now highly diversified, with commercial interests that extend into markets both locally, and across the world.

The John Sample Group operates out of a head office facility which is located in Sydney. This site provides a hub for all warehousing, as well as the core of our employee group.

Our domestic operation is currently made up of two distinct wholesale trading divisions. JSG Industrial Systems provides quality industrial solutions to a variety of industrial & natural resource sectors.

To support these businesses, we have regional offices strategically positioned throughout Australia, ensuring that local support is provided to all of our customers, wherever it is needed.

The family portfolio now includes a number of international operations. PT JSG International & PT Intecs operate out of Jakarta in Indonesia, while JSG Industrial South Africa & International Engineered Products are located in Cape Town South Africa.

Closer to home, we have had an interest in fine foods with Longrain restaurants operating in both Sydney & Melbourne, and Subcontinental in Sydney.

Today, around the world, the Sample family is proud to employ over 500 staff.

JSG INDUSTRIAL SYSTEMS

JSG Industrial Systems Pty Ltd is a major subsidiary of the John Sample Group.

Two major demands of industry today are reductions in maintenance costs & the management of assets.

JSG Industrial Systems have developed a range of engineered systems to maximise productivity, reduce downtime, decrease operational costs, provide high resale value and help lift company profits.

Since its inception in 1968, JSG Industrial Systems has been a proud supplier of Lincoln Industrial products, in particular their line of lubrication systems for industrial applications. Over time, we have been recognised as experts in this field, and today assist in the ongoing development of products through field testing and technical analysis.

The infra-structure developed to support the lubrication business through the 1980’s, allowed JSG Industrial Systems to expand their range of engineered systems into many other product lines, also offering cost reduction measures to industry. In today’s modern economy, the management of assets is more important than ever.

Part of JSG Industrial Systems success has been the building of key relationships over the years with suppliers, many of which are manufactured in Italy, Germany, South Africa & the USA.

The JSG Industrial Systems engineered systems includes;

INTERNATIONAL OPERATIONS

Offshore alliances support our strategic goals.

Over many years, the JSG Industrial Systems division has developed business opportunities in a number of international markets. In 1988, we appointed our first international distributor in Indonesia, to provide support to our customers in this region.

PT JSG INTERNATIONAL, INDONESIA

In order to support the export markets developed by JSG Industrial Systems, PT JSG International was formed in 2011.

Strategically positioned in Jakarta Indonesia, PT JSG International provides a sales & support function to all our distributors located throughout Indonesia. The business now employs over 30 staff.

PT INTECS, INDONESIA

This joint-venture business was started in 1998, to enhance the local support for the entire JSG Industrial Systems range, across all industrial sectors in Indonesia.

The company is now recognised as a strategic business partner offering high quality products and reliable professional services to many customers throughout the region.

With a head office located in Jakarta, and 13 site offices, PT Intecs now employs over 220 staff.

The product range now includes Lubrication & Workshop Systems, Fire Suppression Systems, Filtration Systems & Fluid Management Systems.

JSG INDUSTRIAL, SOUTH AFRICA

Formed in 2013, JSG Industrial South Africa markets and distributes the MusterII Fire Suppression Range throughout Africa.

INTERNATIONAL ENGINEERED PRODUCTS, SOUTH AFRICA

Based in Cape Town South Africa, International Engineered Products was formed in 2012. This joint-venture operation designs & manufactures MusterII Fire Suppression products for our global market.

One of the factors that sets the group apart, is the strength of its in-house professional services team.

Over many years, we have built a team of carefully selected corporate specialists, who operate out of our head facility in Sydney.

The team includes specialists in Finance & Accounting, Information Technology, Business Management, Graphic Design and Human Resources.

They provide a supporting role for many of the day-to-day operational tasks required by our various trading divisions, and manage the corporate governance requirements of all of our business operations both in Australia, and across the world.

Furthermore, our Corporate Services team assist with strategic planning for the group, as we look to the future.

GLOBAL LOGISTICS

At the heart of our operation are the dedicated personnel in our Operations Department.

As the group is a highly diversified business, our team of expeditors & customs clearance experts coordinate a world-wide network of freight forwarders, to support our global import & export requirements.

Many of our product lines include highly engineered solutions, so the material handling functions require careful attention to detail. Our well trained warehouse team are proud to see all customer orders fulfilled accurately, and arrive at their destination in good condition.
