TRANSCRIPT
Electronic cigarettes (e-cigarettes) are battery-operated devices that people use to inhale an aerosol, which typically contains nicotine (though not always), flavorings, and other chemicals. The device heats an e-liquid into an aerosol or “vapor”. They can resemble traditional tobacco cigarettes, cigars, or pipes, or even everyday items like pens or USB memory sticks. Most e-cigarettes consist of four different components including:
• a cartridge or reservoir, which holds a liquid solution containing varying amounts of nicotine, flavorings, and other chemicals• a heating element• a power source• a mouthpiece that the person uses to inhale

Vaping describes using a device to inhale the aerosolized e-liquid. The heated chemicals in the aerosol create a dense, fog-like cloud that looks similar to tobacco smoke. When heated, the properties of the
e-liquid chemicals change. The aerosol particles can damage the lining of the lungs when inhaled.
