Welcome welcome, one and octopus! To The Science of a Legacy, where I try and combine my

Legacy with my degree - bad idea! This here be Chapter Nine: Friends and Crayon Pictures.

But when we last left you, Generation Three heiress Saeva Tegenaria was getting the Family

back on track, after death, love lies and far too much drama for this early on in a Legacy.. Can

she keep it up? Go for the arrow, sparrow..

25th November 2007

Page 2: The Science of a Legacy: Chapter 9

"Oys, Reggie! I've been stationed out here for days, I've not had a single good zapping. Y'know?

Everyone thinks the story is going on inside, but in truth, it's all about what's 'happenin' out here,

innit? We iz more wikkid than thems, eh Reg?"

Page 3: The Science of a Legacy: Chapter 9

"Theodore, you are rather impatient my lad. I've been here for over a generation and have I had

a bite of pixelated fleshy goodness? No, only mere steak. You must learn to soothe your inner

bot, be cool - maaaaan. Roots take time to grow and strengthen, and with strength comes

power, and with power comes great responsi-"

Page 4: The Science of a Legacy: Chapter 9

"You wellz talk too much, innit, Reg man? I is gonna sweep the road, I feel like roasting a Grunt

on da hooouse!"

And with that, assorted lifeforms of the front lawn went about their daily business.

Page 5: The Science of a Legacy: Chapter 9

Saeva was taking excellent care of newborn Arvicanthis (aka Shrew-Boy), determined to do her

Grandfather proud. And my goodness was she doing me proud, let alone Atrica! He hasn't

haunted for days, I reckons he's so chuffed about all the babies in the house. Because not only

is there Arvicanthis here..

Page 6: The Science of a Legacy: Chapter 9

..But also his older brother, Meloti. I forgot to explain his name last time I realised, but it's a

genus of butterfly. Aww. And with his 8 nice points, I feel it's rather fitting.

"Butter flap flap? Look my arms!"

Page 7: The Science of a Legacy: Chapter 9

After a rather troubled early love-life, Saeva had settled down with Sean, and was happier than

she had ever been. And Sean had no intent on letting his wife's happiness slide, and would do

whatever he could for her.

"Love of my life, I do adore lying here with you so.. I'm so proud of you, and how you're rasing

our perfect boys. But I assume this is where we stop? Your father and uncle were but two, as

were you and your, if you'll excuse me, late sister."

"Mm, but times change Sean. Times change.."

Page 8: The Science of a Legacy: Chapter 9

Times don't seem to change for Repens and Kerrie though.

"Motions of reproduction!"

"YAY!"

Page 9: The Science of a Legacy: Chapter 9

And overall, the house is still a skill city.

"Has no one really got rid of these cheeseburgers yet? We go over this every generation! Dairy-

death, need I say it again? Oh well, this'll do for Repens's supper at any rate, we're fresh out of

sparkly food. I told Saeva to sort that out, but she's so slow.."

Page 10: The Science of a Legacy: Chapter 9

I hardly think you could call Saeva slow at anything, Kerrie! Not content with maxing her skills at

university, Saeva was now hard at work on her talent badges. She had been granted a special

power with which to protect her family, so growing vegetables should be a piece of, well,

tomato?

"Tomatoes contain anti-oxidants, which help repair damage to cells caused by free radical

oxygen species produced as a by-product from mitochondria! ...Apparently. I still don't

understand half of what Dad says sometimes, sigh.. But if it helps the boys I'm all for it!"

Page 11: The Science of a Legacy: Chapter 9

Not that the boys seem to need much help! I think.

"Hello Bunny! I am a butter flap flap. I like your ears, can I borrow them.."

Well, at least he's glowing!

Page 12: The Science of a Legacy: Chapter 9

"Ah, magnificent canine! Your fur follicles feel diving against my touch receptors.. Oooh, you're

just so fluffy!"

Parsimony, the family dog, really is adored by everyone! He's such a loving dog, even if he does

look absolutely insane. For the moustached community anyway..

Page 13: The Science of a Legacy: Chapter 9

"Scrumpet, I thought you said that was for me?"

"You were busy with Parsi! It couldn't wait.. These things congeal faster than a GCS!"

"Why yes, I do enjoy a good kick about too! What a fantastic idea, scrumpet!"

"Repens..?"

Uh oh.

Page 14: The Science of a Legacy: Chapter 9

OK.

Why did no one ever warn me how -frightening- these things are at night? These pumpkin men

are evil. I've never been able to find it in the buy catalogue, and when I do - it's scarier than that

giant cauldron full of green ghosts! Take it away :( I don't even want to know what kind of things

he says to Reggie and Theo..

Page 15: The Science of a Legacy: Chapter 9

Saeva however, seem totally unaffected by the madness of having a freakshow in the garden.

All my heirs must at some point in their life reach the top of the Natural Science career and

become an Ecological Guru. All that skilling is paying off then, Seev?

"Well yes, but it was actually Matty who got me this promotion! I guess he feels bad.."

Oh, not as bad as he's going to. When the box popped up "Matthew has pulled some strings at

work and got Saeva promoted!" I was furious. That slimy.. slimemould, is NOT getting back in

my good books that easily.

Page 16: The Science of a Legacy: Chapter 9

"Oh my.. Yes, BABY!"

I guess the tradition of 2 children is broken then, you go Family Sim girl.

"More babies?"

Just have this one first, k?

Page 17: The Science of a Legacy: Chapter 9

I may disapprove of Saeva's friendship with Matthew Hart, but here is one I most definitely do

not. Bonding over Smart Milk, isn't that just the way we'd all like it?

"Daddy's hand like a big butter-flap-flap!"

"Ah, he as inquisitive as my lover! His eyes are full of wonder, my, my hand must be better than I

though!"

Page 18: The Science of a Legacy: Chapter 9

This friendship? Erm, well, I can't deny that more little blue faces are always good for

promotions. Providing they stick around!

"I need to see your milk. Hurry. I need to see it. But you didn't see me. Tell NO ONE on the

BBS."

"Erm.. Seev? What colour hair did you say the creepy lady had again?"

Page 19: The Science of a Legacy: Chapter 9

I could have told Sean in a second that it was purple he needed to watch out for. Vee Semper,

killer of Saeva's sister - Carapace. However, I was still at home waiting for the Simselves to

arrive.

"Ok, I know I sent the PMs, I KNOW they must be in the Neighbourhood by now. Oh this is

hopeless, I'm going to hunt them down!"

Page 20: The Science of a Legacy: Chapter 9

There was only one place they could be at this time of night..

Harold and Merkins,

Harold and Merkins,

Harold and Merkins,

WE LOVE SNAILS!

Oh come on, don't tell me you don't call it that too?

Page 21: The Science of a Legacy: Chapter 9

"Bertie! What are you doing out and about? I'm amazed you'd even show your face in Harold &

Merkins after what happened. I mean, you did help to kill your cousin. Hey, you haven't seen any

Sims-"

"SHUT UP, Gin! I hate girls, all they do it talk talk talk.."

Page 22: The Science of a Legacy: Chapter 9

"And Miss Vee needs a new cloak and I want to make her happy and.."

"Whoa, you're living with Vee now? I thought you'd have gone home to Corvus and Erika after

you dro-"

Page 23: The Science of a Legacy: Chapter 9

"Shut up. But Miss Vee's the best, she treats me properly - not like any of the stupid girls did. I've

found my place in the world, as far away from my family and the rest of them as possible, it's

awesome."

Page 24: The Science of a Legacy: Chapter 9

"Be careful Bertie, please. You haven't seen what Vee's capable off, you were there when she.."

"SHUT UP!"

Page 25: The Science of a Legacy: Chapter 9

And with that Bertie left. And I was left with a head full of worry and a complete lack of Simself

back up, once again. Hey, he may be a nasty little germ, but he's still part of the Tegenaria

bloodline and seems to take after his Father in processing thoughts..

"I'm so going to need some help!"

Page 26: The Science of a Legacy: Chapter 9

Back at the Legacy Household, the worries of the past were far behind and instead - a double

birthday, Tegenaria style.

"Ahem! Sean! Dad! Haa-loo?!"

"..and then the cAMP altered gene expression!"

"Oh, no WAY, Repens! Oh, sorry love of my life."

Page 27: The Science of a Legacy: Chapter 9

"There now little Meloti, Daddy and Granddad are idiots! Let's hope you do better, eh? My little

butterfly boy."

"Flap!"

Page 28: The Science of a Legacy: Chapter 9

Meloti Tegenaria: The Little Inquisitor!

"Oh wow, this is so much better than wings! Granddad was right, vertebrates rock!"

Page 29: The Science of a Legacy: Chapter 9

Of course not forgetting Arvicanthis. Except for everyone but Saeva had forgotten, and was far

more interested in Meloti's newly formed child hands.

"And now for my little shrew! Are you ready?"

"Guuurrpleeaaaa!"

Page 30: The Science of a Legacy: Chapter 9

Eep, 1st born effect.. I rolled the dice, so this is as annoying as a salmon with no soul.. However,

Arvicanthis has Saeva's eyes instead of Sean, like Meloti does, but they do have the same

personality:

Aries 9/10/6/2/8

But I really don't mind, he'll be complimenting your hair as he washes it for you whilst being

naked in the hot tub.

Page 31: The Science of a Legacy: Chapter 9

"Ah, my daughter.. Another Tegenaria offspring on the way I see! What fine genetics shall

emerge hither this time I do wonder.."

"Repens, you're not to confuse the babies, ok?"

"Why of course Sean, I'd love to take Parsimony for a walk!"

"..Dad?"

Page 32: The Science of a Legacy: Chapter 9

Ah ha, so this is what the blender is for! I bought it because Repens wanted one (you think I'm

making up his confusedness? Check out his wants panel!) and because I had no idea what it

does. Apparently it's for instead of chopping.. Which I guess is kind of obvious. But not if you're

me!

So Legacy Fact #42: Blenders speed up cooking time! Handy for pregnant PJ parties

Page 33: The Science of a Legacy: Chapter 9

Annoyingly, Meloti's hair doesn't show up for children and Peggy Sims is down, so he shall have

a replacement one until he turns into a teenager, shh.

But look! I made his t-shirt! It's the first piece of CC I have ever attempted, and so I'm overly

proud. (The photo is mine as well, taken when I was studying Fiddler Crabs at Habor Branch

Oceanographic Institute in Florida 3 years ago - so I'm now integrating Science into their clothes.

Oh dear.)

Page 34: The Science of a Legacy: Chapter 9

Arvicanthis also got a new hairstyle, and I think it goes fantastically with his dinosaur jammies.

"Hello Bunny. I am a shrew! May I borrow your tail.. Oh, you don't have one. And ear'll do then.

Whee!"

Page 35: The Science of a Legacy: Chapter 9

Without delay, Sean got around to teaching his son that he did not, nor would ever have, a tail.

As well as the usual like 'Teddy' and 'Bottle'.

"And Arvicanthis! Can you say that?"

"Arwnbtjfksis? What does that mean anyway?"

Well it took me long enough to learn how to spell it!

Page 36: The Science of a Legacy: Chapter 9

"I love my Shrew-Dog!"

"And I love my Shrew-Boy, he's most soft indeed."

And of course, Parsimony was always available for unconditional love and moustache tickling.

Things were less cuddly outside though..

Page 37: The Science of a Legacy: Chapter 9

CARAPACE! What news from the other side?

"Gin, I can hear you! Wow, that's weird.. Grandfather and Grandmother say hello!"

Hi Atrica! Hi Margs! I miss you and all the pleasure..

Page 38: The Science of a Legacy: Chapter 9

"Oh don't worry, there's still plenty of Pleasure. We're at the big 10 lane bowling alley in the sky

remember? They're so pleased with Grandfather's custom that all Tegenarias get free shoe

rental for the after-life!"

Oh, that's.. awesome?

"It sure is! Oh, but I came to tell you that it's worked. At least for now. The Legacy Orbs will keep

Saeva and her children safe, so don't worry. I won't go inside and disturb them.. But I'm glad

they're doing so well. Apparently everything that's happened is meant to be!"

Awesome! I may have to take a Margaret Moment (tm) and say sqe-

"Oh, and Gin? Destroy Matthew Hart for me."

Page 39: The Science of a Legacy: Chapter 9

Blissfully unaware of Carapace's presence outside, the Tegenaria Ladies set about feeding the

next generation in their own ways.

"Dad says I need to keep my folic acid up Mum, do you know what that means?"

"No idea, I'm beginning to wonder if your Father does either.. But he'll be fine, none of us ever

understood him anyway!"

Page 40: The Science of a Legacy: Chapter 9

The following morning, business was as usual for the Tegenarias. Unaware that their safety had

been confirmed indefinitely, or that Saeva had been close to getting the final goodbye she so

missed with her sister.

"Mummy's hair is huge.."

"My son's hair is huge.."

Page 41: The Science of a Legacy: Chapter 9

Meloti and Sean were becoming inseparable, I do like having more tha one Sim with nice points

about!

From the side: "Oi! Whozzat?!?! Oh Reg, it's just them hugging dudes again.. Get inside! You

don't want them telescopes to see you! Geez, what's a bot gotta do 'round here to get a good

zappin'?!?!"

Page 42: The Science of a Legacy: Chapter 9

Give birth, maybe? That always demands attention. Though, this is the Tegenarias we're talking

about here..

"Ok, where is everyone? Why does this always happe- ooooow, my!"

Page 43: The Science of a Legacy: Chapter 9

For once, everyone stopped what they were doing and rushed into the room to help Saeva.

Even Arvicanthis is there! Though, even though Repens is physically present..

"What is that noise? Did we get another puppy? Speaking of, where's Parsimony.."

"DAD!"

Page 44: The Science of a Legacy: Chapter 9

But whether Repens was watching or not, everyone else was on hand to welcome little

Allozyme, the third boy of Generation Four. He has blue eyes like his mother, but the eye shape

and black hair of his Father. I downloaded the Lot Debugger, so fingers crossed no First Born

effect!

Allozymes are different forms of the same enzyme, but each have a different coding sequence.

Interesting, eh? I couldn't take anymore animal toddlers this gen!

Page 45: The Science of a Legacy: Chapter 9

"Oh love of my life! Another fine healthy son! Our brood is ever growing, I am delighted!

"Yay Saeva! Congratulations, I do love all these Grandbabies! Can we sell some if you keep

popping them out?"

"Mother.."

"Parsimony! Where are you boy.."

Page 46: The Science of a Legacy: Chapter 9

And to further celebrate the birth of her third Grandchild, Kerrie promptly falls ill with flu.

"This isn't flu! Those cheese burgers have finally taken effect! Oh dear, I warned everyone.. If

only I had just left it be.. I'm going to die! I produce an all-powerful daughter and this is how the

World thanks me? *cough splutter*"

I have no idea why she's ill, I'm all up for believing the cheese burger theory at this point..

Page 47: The Science of a Legacy: Chapter 9

"Don't worry little Allozyme, I'll keep you safe. It's what I do, and I would never let anything

happen to someone I love so much.."

Saeva had to keep herself from glancing out of the window, to the place where her sister had left

her world. But with three sons to look after and a sickness on the loose, she knew this was no

time drown in nostalgia.

Page 48: The Science of a Legacy: Chapter 9

"Oh where is Granddad! How I am supposed to do this on my own? My brothers can't take up

this much of everyone's time! I'm their beautiful first born butterfly.. And -how- am I meant to

concentrate when there's all these funny noises coming from upstairs? Some people just have

no timing.. Now, what sea is Croatia located on.."

Page 49: The Science of a Legacy: Chapter 9

"Oh my Love!"

"Oh my BABIES!"

I guess the rule of two is far out of the window then!

Page 50: The Science of a Legacy: Chapter 9

This rule breaking was just too much for Meloti, and he couldn't work out what continent Croatia

was in, let alone justify its coastline. So instead, he decided it was never to early, or dark, to start

learning the family sport: The Noble Art of Bowling.

"I don't even get why! But apparently it's important, or I'll be haunted or something, and there's

enough weird noises in this house with adding to it. Though why a ghost would care about

bowling I've no idea."

Page 51: The Science of a Legacy: Chapter 9

But he made a good stab at it, and soon flopped exhausted into bed - with an odd craving for

cod and chips. No idea why.

(I have ohmigoat IjustgotFamilyFunStuff Syndrome)

Page 52: The Science of a Legacy: Chapter 9

Downstairs in the Nursery, Arvicanthis was less happy.

"I am Shrew-Boy! I need my Shrew-Dog!"

And Parsimony looked so sad at being parted from his little Dino-Shrew, that Repens decided

that his Grandsons did need him after all.

Page 53: The Science of a Legacy: Chapter 9

Why people say they dislike the Pets expansion pack, I will never know.

I know my toddlers would be much worse off without it! Though if someone could produce a

pack where the parents automatically put the bottles in the bin, now that'd be good.

Page 54: The Science of a Legacy: Chapter 9

Repens continued to show what a good Granddad he could be, as he learnt the great art of

tucking in from his Mother.

"Ah, sleep little Meloti! Let the REM cycles help your brain process the day, and the ceramic

cichlids enhance your dreams.."

Page 55: The Science of a Legacy: Chapter 9

"Are you ready for another little shrew in the house, Arvi? Though they won't have as cute a

nose as you, oh no they won't.. Or glow as much! But they probably will actually, it's kind of

another Family tradition.. Oh my little boy, don't get sick like Grandma now, ok?"

"Not the snout.."

Page 56: The Science of a Legacy: Chapter 9

Or you, Saeva.. At this rate I've no idea if this is flu or pregnancy, it really could be either!

"I.. blame... the.. cheeseburgers."

You know, I really do this there may be something to this theory.

Page 57: The Science of a Legacy: Chapter 9

Parsimony seems very surprised at his Mistress's sudden flow of liquids.. More than likely he's

just expecting her to bring him forth a little toddler.

"If she does, I do hope it's named Falcor. My impression is coming along quite stunningly, if I do

say so myself."

Page 58: The Science of a Legacy: Chapter 9

"Allozyme, I am worried that the Family is beginning to think less of me and my cortex. Absolute

nonsense of course, but I shall make it up to you and your brothers, indubitably I shall!"

But he needn't have worried. Repens was already a fantastic Grandfather to the boys, forget

Ecological Guru - I'd say more Teggie Guru for starters! Fortune Sim my goat.

Page 59: The Science of a Legacy: Chapter 9

"I did all by my flutter-bying self! I had to name a sea-living crustacean, and somehow I just

knew! I just knew it! Wow, I can't wait to tell Granddad Repens, he'll be so proud!"

If he can remember, I'm really beginning to worry about that Sim.

Page 60: The Science of a Legacy: Chapter 9

Ah, the orchard is as prosperous as the Family! Or something.

I just love this picture and really wanted to include it :)

Page 61: The Science of a Legacy: Chapter 9

Ditto this one! Cute little Shrew-Boy.

Arvicanthis is just as adorable a toddler as Meloti, and I thought he was the sweetest I'd seen -

so look at him more!

Page 62: The Science of a Legacy: Chapter 9

Not that Meloti's not a lovely kid of course - and Parsi won't leave the kids alone, so in my mind

he really just has become a child of Tegenaria Generation Four!

"Can you fly Parsi? I bet if you flapped your ears fast enough you could! I can't, but I have a

fluttery heart Mummy says, so I want to have a fluttery dog, too!"

"Am I a butterfly or a shrew? These small ones are a bit confusing.."

Page 63: The Science of a Legacy: Chapter 9

"*Gasp* BABY!"

And baby bump number four makes an appearance, I am enjoying having Saeva at the head of

the Family this Generation, I'd forgotten how much I love Family Sims!

Page 64: The Science of a Legacy: Chapter 9

Not that they need to be Family Sims to dote on each other, Kerrie and Repens are proving

Fortune Sims do an equally good job.

This is another picture that I just had to include, I love all the different blues.. Can you tell I've

been taking lots of pictures just because they're "beautiful" to me this time round?

Page 65: The Science of a Legacy: Chapter 9

But as always in a Legacy Household, there's never enough time to just sit and gaze at the daily,

photogenic, goings on! It was time for another double-before-breakfast-birthday, and Arvicanthis

is up first, and his father is paying just as much attention him as he did on Arvi's last birthday!

Sean!

"The love of my life looks even more radiant when holding our boy.. How could I possible focus

on anything else when her light shines so bright?"

Well I'm not going to deny that I'm ecstatic that my Seev has found true love :)

Page 66: The Science of a Legacy: Chapter 9

"I wish for a tail! I must be one with all the shrews in the world, heheee!"

"Whoa, Arvicanthis dude, stop squirming! Oh hang on, this really doesn't feel right.. Mum, Sean,

heeelp..!"

Page 67: The Science of a Legacy: Chapter 9

Oh this is so not right. And also my first sort-of-glitch thing..

"There's a Mummy where my tail's meant to be, I didn't wish for this!"

Page 68: The Science of a Legacy: Chapter 9

"Mmmffmf!!"

"Whoa, I grew a lot more than I thought I would! I can see all the way to Granny's bathroom.. I

bet I'm waaay taller than Meloti, awesome!"

Arvicanthis Tegenaria, get off your pregnant Mother's bump at once!

Page 69: The Science of a Legacy: Chapter 9

Thankfully, the presence of cake was enough to draw him down. Phew, had me worried there for

a minute! And apparently I wasn't the only one.

"D'ya think that was the bork? Is it coming? Is it?"

"I don't think so Kerrie, Saeva has us protected - remember? I think my son had just had too

many of Parsimony's treats, calm yourself."

"But Meloti said they were shrew treats.."

Page 70: The Science of a Legacy: Chapter 9

Hopefully little Allozyme will not repeat his elder brother's gymnastic performance.

"Don't worry my love, I'm here this time to make sure nothing's going to go wrong. Maybe we

men need to start paying more attention to these so called cake events."

"Yes, that would be a good idea.. Are you ready Ally? Now please, no more animal nonsense!"

Page 71: The Science of a Legacy: Chapter 9

Hedge yeah! The debugger beat the First born effect, which will hopefully stamp any of those

notions of Meloti and Arvi out of him!

Allozyme is a Gemini 5/9/9/3/1, so he'll throw a half rotten sandwich in your face, and then not

find it funny.

Page 72: The Science of a Legacy: Chapter 9

And the endless cycle of smartmilk begins once again! More important to shove a bottle down

'em than make them over, that can wait until after the skilling gosh dangit!

"Here you go Ally, now fo- hey! What is that weird noise coming from Mum and Dad's room..

Dad? DAD! Are you ok?"

Page 73: The Science of a Legacy: Chapter 9

Well apparently it was neither of them! Oh dear, I'm not even sure who you've come to visit.. I'm

very very sorry whichever one of you it is..

"Hush Ginny-Winny! I'm hewe for snuggle-wuggles and kissy-wissies! Because I wuv each and

evewy one of you! Except youw dog. He's taking ovew my wole! If I had the chance, I swear.."

Page 74: The Science of a Legacy: Chapter 9

"My, what a spectacular find! A large long-eared rose rodent! You, you really must come back to

the lab with me.."

"Wepens, I wuv you mowe than buttewcups! Come hewe and I'll give you all the wuv you'll evew

nweed! Fowgwet youw famiwy.."

Page 75: The Science of a Legacy: Chapter 9

"What!? Who sent you? Was it that dastardly nephew of mine and his wench? What are you

doing here, what is your greater purpose! You've come to steal our Orbs, haven't you? Eh?

EH?"

"Oh fwa-.."

Page 76: The Science of a Legacy: Chapter 9

"For PLEASURE!"

"Dad, what are you doing now.."

The poor Social Bunny never got a chance to explain himself, whatever seems to be up with

Repens - you can't deny his family values!

Page 77: The Science of a Legacy: Chapter 9

Ah ha! So THIS is why everyone's getting sick.. Yes ok, I am incapable of noticing a few

roaches. Thank you Sean, now please move before you catch flu as well.

"These pesky pests may crawl towards my beautiful pregnant wife love! They must be stopped. I

shall vanquish you - *squish squish etc*"

Page 78: The Science of a Legacy: Chapter 9

"Oh no.. My son has found my one weakness! The dreaded blue book of the work of home.. It is

my failing! Oh my, it's so much worse than roaches. But I must protect my wife from it, oh the

woe!"

No wonder Meloti never gets very far with his homework..

Page 79: The Science of a Legacy: Chapter 9

On the other hand, Allozyme's learning was progressing wonderfully. But then how could it not

when your mother is Saeva "The Wonder" Tegenaria?

Though how these two know about high chairs I do not understand - the legacy household has

never had one! (Mostly because I don't quite get what they're for..)

Page 80: The Science of a Legacy: Chapter 9

"Looks like it's you and me again Parsi.. I hope you're as good at maths as you are at

geography. I would ask Grandpa Repens, but he's busy fighting the air. I don't know what it did

to him, but at least he'll be making it safe for all the butterflies!"

"Division today, is it?"

Page 81: The Science of a Legacy: Chapter 9

"Meloti! Fear not, your father may be afreared of sums, your mother may be at the fridge

consuming nutrition for the next fetus, and my wife is.. somewhere, but I shall not abandon you!

Now, please just ignore the large fiend behind me, and let's crunch some numerators!"

"Grandpa, I'm so pleased you can finally help me - I've been waiting days! But.. there really isn't

anything behind you."

"He has a plan son, he has a plan."

Page 82: The Science of a Legacy: Chapter 9

Sean, you're a doctor for trout's sake! You, of all people, should know that stomping is not the

most sensible thing to do.

"But if I do not protect my Saeva from disease, then who will? I cannot look weak in front of her.."

And with things going -this well- in the Legacy Household, I think we'll scoot across the 'hood for

a while.

Page 83: The Science of a Legacy: Chapter 9

Fresh from his run-in with me in Harold & Merkins, and still believing Vee Semper to be his only

friend, Bertie was still more than content to have no contact with his family, and to nurse his 'evil'

plans.

"Television inspires evil Mummy always said. This will help me think, and get back at all those

stupid girls who never did shut up! Geesh, they are so annoying.."

"Ahem! Bertie dear.. What, pray tell, do you think you are doing? This is my house, and my

television set. I did not give you permission to get your sticky fingers all over it. I think we need to

discuss a few things."

"Urgh.."

Page 85: The Science of a Legacy: Chapter 9

"Now Bertie, I know you came to me when your sister and cousin threw you out of Trout House

because you had nowhere else to go. Your family are a disaster and don't understand your

needs, and so you need me to help shape your mind. But this is my house, kiddo. And you are

not a guest here, and nor should you feel free to treat it like your own. You are not part of my

family. Have you got that?"

Page 86: The Science of a Legacy: Chapter 9

"Oh, of course Miss Vee! Yes, I see now. I see exactly how we need to work this. I understand

what you're saying, Miss Vee, oh I do I do. I'll just SHUT UP now and go somewhere else.."

"There's a good boy, I'm glad we understand one another."

Page 87: The Science of a Legacy: Chapter 9

"Ok, Miss Vee needs to understand that we love each other first, and then I'll be part of her

family! That's what she wants.. Mummy and Daddy used to always sit on the bed together and

then play hideey underneath. So I'll just sit here, and make my bestest mean face so Miss Vee

knows I'm serious, and then we can play and be a family!"

Page 88: The Science of a Legacy: Chapter 9

"Hello Miss Vee! See, I knew what you mean, see!"

"Bertie, this is my bed. My house. I told you this! You'll be staying over there, you got me?"

Page 89: The Science of a Legacy: Chapter 9

"There."

"..Huh? Shut up."

Page 90: The Science of a Legacy: Chapter 9

"Ok, so this isn't like my racing car bedroom at home, but this is obviously how Miss Vee wants

us to become a family! But it doesn't feel like a family home to me.."

Page 91: The Science of a Legacy: Chapter 9

"Ah, now that's better! It's just like the drawings Daddy used to make with me when I was a little

stupid kid. But then I didn't know any better, I didn't know the way that Miss Vee is teaching me.

But still.. it's nice and pretty."

Page 92: The Science of a Legacy: Chapter 9

"Uuurgh, shut up! I've never had to make my own food before.. Mummy always used to do it,

and then Bubbles and Carapace and Saeva and Mr. Pizza Man. This is rubbish! But when we're

Family, Miss Vee will do it for me, and I'm sure we'll be Family tomorrow.

..

Oh, just SHUT UP!"

Page 93: The Science of a Legacy: Chapter 9

With Bertie safely dispatched to the garden, Vee could now attend to her own matters - without

being constantly told to shut up.

"Mr. Tegenaria! Of course your son is fine.. Oh yes, I do my best to look after him in every way..

Of course he has racing cars!"

Page 94: The Science of a Legacy: Chapter 9

"Oh well, if you're sure.. *click*"

Corvus, Bertie's father and Repens's brother, was very much a Family man. Neither he nor his

wife, Erika, had seen their son since he left for university. He had never even come home when

being thrown out for his part in Carapace's death.

Page 95: The Science of a Legacy: Chapter 9

"Oh Mitten! Corvus is so worried about my Bertie! What if he's not getting enough cuddles,

everyone needs cuddles! Oh Mitten, what am I going to do.."

"Meeeew! Squeezing me not so hard might be a start, big guy.."

Page 96: The Science of a Legacy: Chapter 9

"You mean you're not convinced, Corvie? I must say, neither am I. Bertie's still an

impressionable young man, and I always thought there must be something very off about that

woman. Coming round everyday to see our son, even when he was but a boy? I fear she's

stolen him away from us for good!"

Page 97: The Science of a Legacy: Chapter 9

"Erika, you pretty pretty lady, I don't want to know that! Bertie will come home. Come home to

Corvus soon.. I hope. Where is daughter Bubbles? She always makes Corvus feel better.."

Page 98: The Science of a Legacy: Chapter 9

Bubbles had caught wind of her parents distress about the lack of contact from Bertie himself,

and knew that she had to confide in her best friend, and the only one who'd understand.

"Seev,

Awesome to hear the boys are growing up so well! Make sure you invite me to the next birthday,

k? I miss u!! Mummy and Daddy are worrying about Bertie, but to be honest? I'm not. He

betrayed us all and I am SOOOOOO on your side about this one!

Page 99: The Science of a Legacy: Chapter 9

Since Carrie died and we've come home, I've become more spiritual than I ever was at uni.

Y'know, I think woohoo may not be everything! Shockin I know!!!! Every morning before work, I

just take a moment to really experience the day, y'know?? Coz they're all precious, right!

Page 100: The Science of a Legacy: Chapter 9

I work in the SWAT team now, I wanna be ready if that purple witch tried something against any

of us again! I know, I know, I used to just want to dress as a maid and hit the LuLu Lounge, but

that all just kind of means nothing now - I'm a changed girl!!

Page 101: The Science of a Legacy: Chapter 9

I'm a bit worried about how friendly Dad is becoming with the local 'wildlife'.. We've got enough

pets as it is, we really don't need anymore! But Dad's determined to adopt him too, sigh..

Page 102: The Science of a Legacy: Chapter 9

And Boingy and Fluffles grew up! Dad's well on his way to raising 20 of the little fluffballs, they're

number 6 and 7! And Lovie, our beagle (do ya remember??) is pregnant again! I'm sooo excited

to see her puppies!!!

Page 103: The Science of a Legacy: Chapter 9

But yeah Seev, we're all doing well. Mummy and Daddy are more in love than ever - it freaks me

out! How u can cope with ur parents having dream dates in the lounge I'll never know!! U should

all come round for dinner - Mummy'll cook!! I'm so glad you're happy and that everything's

working out, I LUV U!!!!!!

Oh, P.S.

Have you met the new girls down the street? I haven't properly yet, but they seem super fun!!! I

told Gin about them, and she seemed mega excited! I hope we can all have sleepovers

together!!!

Muahaha, look who's here! But that's all for now squids, thanks for reading as always :) CC by

clever clever people (except for the crab! shirt!) and all the disease courteous of roaches. Tune

in next time to find out.. things? Is Bertie having a change of heart? What is going on with

Repens? Exactly now many more times with Saeva give birth? And so on and so on. This has

been Gin, avoiding the dreaded ANCOVAs..

"Nobody else had this documented? Why me.. This is so humiliating!"
