FROM THE MANAGER’S DESK

Happy Valentine’s Day! May you always find love in your heart and in your home. Enter to win a heart full of candy for your special someone this year. Come to the Sales Office and fill out a ticket to enter today! Drawing will be held February 10, 2014. Enjoy!

SUPER BOWL SUNDAY February 2, 2014 Denver Broncos VS Seattle Seahawks

February marks the beginning of Black History Month, a federally recognized, nation-wide celebration that provides the opportunity for all Americans to reflect on the signifi-cant roles that African Americans have played in the shaping of U.S. history. In 1976, February became Black History Month in the United States. Dr. Carter G. Woodson founded Black History Week in 1926. He chose the second week in February for his celebration because two prominent men in African-American history had birthdays that week: Abraham Lincoln, on February 12 and Frederick Douglass, on February 14. In 1976, President Gerald Ford issued an official proclamation recognizing Black History Month.

Reminder:

Resident Quarterly Board Meeting: March 13, 2014 @ 7:30 pm. If you wish to ad-

dress the Board members on any issues please contact them so you are sure to be on the agenda. One lucky winner will be picked for the free lot rent raffle ( taxes not included) that will be held on that evening. Purchase your tickets to win!

School is out for February/President's Recess the 17th thru the 21st. Children will

be home for one week during this time.

By now everyone should have received their Lease renewals from Morgan Man-

agement, if not please contact the Sales office.

ACH payment changes: If you have your rent withdrawn from your checking account payable to Morgan Management, and you have a rent change (renewal increase, bal-ance due, and or a credit on your account you will need to do a change form. These forms are located in the Sales Office, they must be signed & returned before the 19th of February 2014 to have your new lease renewal amount taken out.

Lease renewal changes: As you have noticed the star deduction was removed from your lease renewal starting this year 2014. Please note that this change actually took affect in 2013. This decision is because your star deduction is granted to you by the Ontario County Tax Dept., which is not a part of Morgan Management, therefore it has nothing to do with your lease agreement with Morgan Management. Your notice in Oc-tober stated what your star deduction amount will be for Dec. 2013 to November 2014. This is a credit which is calculated by the Ontario County Tax Dept. and directly affects the amount of taxes owed by the homeowner not your lot rent. The combined tax is your taxes. Bob Morgan has no say so as to what your taxes will be or the amount of Star credit any one individual should receive. He is simply provided the homeowners tax bill which he pays, and is reimbursed monthly by that individual resident. Home Owner's may request to pay their own taxes through the Assessor's Office. If you

Please call Joan Bileti, 869-5054, if you can help.

choose to do this the tax amount would then be removed from your lease renewals moving forward and you would receive your tax bill and Star credit from the Ontario County Tax Dept. separately from your lease renewal. The Lot Rent on the lease is all that you would see then.

FROM THE PRESIDENT’S DESK

We all realize that cold weather is par for the course in Upstate New York in January and February. However, what we have been experiencing as part of these polar vortexes that have blown our way is nothing short of FRIGID. That being said, let’s remember these ar-tic blasts in July and August when we are sweltering and begging the humidity for a break! Hopefully that sentence alone brought a little warmth to your memory and warmed you if even just a bit.

The Victor-Farmington Volunteer Ambulance Corps will be giving a presentation to the Gypsum Mills community highlighting the many valuable services they provide. This pres-entation will be held on Tuesday, February 4th at 7pm at the Community Center. Please plan on joining us.

Our Quarterly Residents Meeting will be held on March 13th at 7:30pm at the Community Center. Please note this is a date change for the Residents Meeting as it is typically held on the first Thursday of the month. Due to a scheduling conflict it was necessary to change the date of the meeting. This will be a one time only change. All further quarterly residents meetings will be held on the first Thursday of the month (June, September and December). The Board strongly encourages resident participation and attendance at these meetings. The drawing for our “Free Rent” promotion will be held at the close of the March Residents meeting. I look forward to seeing you there and wish all much luck in the drawing! Tickets are available for purchase from Joan Hawes or from any board member. Ticket prices are 1 for $1, 6 for $5, and 13 for $10. Buy your tickets soon! In speaking of the “Free Rent” promotion, I want to mention the importance of not only participating in our community events and promotions for the chance of winning, but also as a show of support for the many community sponsored events we have at Gypsum Mills. It is the money raised by promotions such as “Free Rent” that enable our community to host popular events like the Music Festival that was held in the Summer of 2013. Even if you don’t win the “Free Rent” promotion you should feel good that purchasing tickets will help fund com-munity sponsored events that all of us enjoy so very much.

February is the month of Valentine’s Day! Last year in honor of Valentine’s Day, I shared that the famous Patron Saint of Love, St. Valentine is actually buried in Ireland. St. Valentine’s remains are housed at the Carmelite Church on Whitefriar Street in Dublin, placed there as a gift from Pope Gregory XVI. Un-

doubtedly, the spell of love and romance has long been associated with Ireland and most likely was even prior to St. Valentine’s remains being housed there. One need only look at famous Irish poets-Yeats, Joyce, and Wilde-world renown for their epic poetry that speaks of love, family, tragedy, triumph, and beauty as proof of the passion of the Irish. But Ireland is also known for the limerick. A limerick (named for the county in Ireland in which it origi-nates) is a poem consisting of 5 rhyming lines that is typically funny. There are limericks about almost every topic under the sun including Valentine’s Day and love. I share a few with you now in the hopes they bring you a chuckle and a smile in honor of St. Valentine.

“Please” and “thank you” are words I was taught Pat and Rose had a lot of ability,

To be sure that I'd note what I ought But were low on compatibility

Since you please me each day Their marriage, of course

With your sweet, gentle way Ended in divorce,

I give thanks for the love that you’ve brought Which they regretted until their senility!!

Fondly, Hugh N. Crowley, President Gypsum Mills Board of Directors

DID YOU KNOW?

The saying “wearing your heart on your sleeve” is from the Middle Ages. Boys at this time would draw names of girls to see who would be their “Valentine” and then wear the name pinned on their sleeve for a week.
