Brethren
As we enter the summer months, remember we are dark for our stated meetings in July and August with the only events of importance: The Police Appreciation Dinner and Award Presentation on July 14th and the continuation of our Long Class on August 13th when we will confer the 20th, 22nd, and 27th degrees. I would like to thank Ill. Jim Sunseri for his efforts in rebuilding our degree casts and his always fabulous and entertaining instruction and education in the class room.
My hat is off to our membership manager, Frances who has and continues in doing an outstanding job for all of us here at the Rite. I’m sure you will agree with me that she is a delight to be around and an extreme pleasure to work with. We are very lucky to have found such a gem. She is also a great detective. I received a statement from our credit card account stating that my card had been used in the State of Washington in the amount of $3,499.99. Of course I notified the bank but Frances dug into it, found who had actually made the purchase and learned through her investigation that it was a typo error and the com-pany is now crediting us back. But, I had already destroyed my card.
I wish you all a safe and exciting summer vacation and hope you will attend the Police Appreciation Night Dinner to show our support for the men and women of the Long Beach and Signal Hill police departments who daily and without fanfare protect and serve us.
Brother Dale Quelle, our current Master of the Lodge of Perfection, proposed a plan to turn the empty white house into a Masonic club house. This has generated a lot of interest and plans are progressing.
In closing, those of you who may be under the weather, we wish you a speedy recovery and hope to see you again soon.
God Bless,
Tim
Notes From the General Secretary
In Masonry, we often use the phrase “Erected to God and the Holy Saints John”. All of our Blue Lodges are so dedicated. Who are these men and why do we often refer to them as the Patron Saints of Freemasonry?
June 24th is Saint John the Baptist Day. He helped people lead a devout life and called upon them to repent of their sins and believed that people must live in a holy manner.
December the 27th is St. John the Evangelist Day. He believed that the Word of God was linked with light. He was a person of light, not of darkness and wrote about Brotherly Love and Fellowship. Masonic authors have written how his imagery in Revelations, in many ways, has been influential to Masonry.
Then there is St. John the Almoner who was born in the sixth century. His day is celebrated on either November 11th or January 23rd. There are two schools of thought on the date. His object was charity. He went to Jerusalem to assist the Knights and Pilgrims. He founded a hospital and organized a fraternity to attend to the sick and wounded people.
John the Baptist was a man of Faith, John the Evangelist was a man of Hope and John the Almoner was a man of Charity. These three men provide us with ways to live our lives as Masons.
This is only a brief glimpse into the lives of these men, but I hope enough of a glimpse to give us a model for living our lives.
