The Scroll of the prophet Isaiah was
handed to Him. Unrolling it, He found the place
where it is written: “The Spirit of the LORD is on
me, because He has anointed me to preach good
news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim
freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for
the blind, to release the oppressed, to proclaim the
year of the LORD’s favor.” Luke 4:17-19/Isaiah 61:1-2

Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me, and
do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven
belongs to such as these.” Matthew 19:14

It is hard to believe the year 2020 is here. The phrase “Lead Me
to the Cross” keeps coming to mind in my prayers for our
congregation entering a new year. I do pray for everyone to have good health, renewed
relationships, strengthened marriages, and for those enduring health concerns in the new
year. But I am also mindful that for others this year will bring loss, heartache, frustration and
new challenges.
I pray 2020 is a year we renew and strengthen our relationship with Jesus. I pray it is a year
when we humbly come before God saying, “Lead Me to the Cross.” A few ways we can
strengthen our relationship with God and draw nearer to the Cross are being faithful in
worship attendance, active in Bible study, and using our gifts to find opportunities to serve
not only at church, but also in the community.
The more we are filling our cup with Christ, the more we will find ourselves growing in our
faith, drawing closer to the Cross, and experiencing more joy and peace in our everyday life.
The chorus to a worship song entitled “Lead Me to the Cross” by Hillsong United reads:
Lead me to the cross
Where Your love poured out
Bring me to my knees
Lord I lay me down
Rid me of myself
I belong to You
Lead me, lead me to the cross
God, I thank You for the congregation at Deep Creek Baptist. I pray that our heart’s desire is
to draw close to You and to the cross this year, I also pray that we will be bold in bringing
others to the Cross so they can experience Your abundant love poured out. Help us be
obedient to where You are leading us this year. Amen
Be Encouraged,

The day I found out I was pregnant I was very upset and didn’t
know what to do. So many different emotions. And I knew it would
be very hard, especially while I was still in college. I didn’t know
how I was going to tell my parents, my family or my church. I felt
like a terrible person and didn't want anyone to know. After two
positive pregnancy tests, I decided to go to Compassion Care
Center. It was one of the best decisions I could have made.
Upon arrival, I took another pregnancy test which was positive and followed up with an ultrasound.
Seeing my little baby on the ultrasound, I was lost for words. I had no idea what I would do. I had so
many emotions, but felt like I had no one. After my ultrasound, I talked with Shonda about life, and
about this new baby. I let her know the way I felt—about all my emotions: how to tell my parents, how
bad a person I thought I was… She sat down and talked with me, explaining that this baby is a blessing.
Even though this baby was not planned by me, God had planned it for me. She explained that even
though I was still in college and still living at home, she knew I could do this and get through this. Shonda
let me know she was there for me if I needed her, and we stayed in contact after that. After talking
about my life, the new baby, and religion, we prayed together. After we prayed, all my emotions just
bubbled up. I cried for a long time but was realizing, because of what she said, that I can get through this
and was going to do everything I could to be the best mom for this baby. Then Shonda gave me a bag
with lots of information for new moms.
After that meeting, I went home to tell my parents. It was very hard for them to cope at first but they
did eventually accept the news. I went back to Compassion Care every week after that to take classes
that offered videos about pregnancy and babies. Watching these videos helped me so much and gave
me so much information I did not know. I learned about pregnancy and caring for my newborn. And I
earned points for watching the videos and doing homework that I could use to “purchase” maternity
clothes, baby clothes, diapers, wipes and toys. These items helped me tremendously.
Without Compassion Care offering these classes and items I wouldn’t have known what to do. I have
learned so much I didn’t know, and they have given me the best support. I absolutely love everyone
there and appreciate all they have done for me and my baby. I just recently had my daughter and she
has become my entire life. There are no words to explain the love you will have for your child. Many
people would say those same words o me before I had my baby and I did not understand—but now it all
makes sense. She is my absolute everything. I know one thing though—without Compassion Care
Center, I would not have been able to do this. They were a lifesaver and I cannot express how very
thankful I am that they were there for me every step of the way. I hope that anyone who has this
experience will go to Compassion Care and get the help and support you need. They are truly Life
Savers! Thank you so much to Jennifer, Shonda, and Bonnie for giving me the support and help I needed.
