the second coming: the rapture
DESCRIPTION
This lesson, written by Drew Kizer, refutes the idea of a secret rapture and, instead, points to First Thessalonians to show what will really happen when Christ returns.TRANSCRIPT
The Second Coming:
“The Rapture”Drew Kizer
Basics of “The Rapture” • Jesus failed to set up an earthly kingdom while here.
• Instead, as a “stop-gap measure,” he established the Church.
• When Jesus “returns,” He will secretly call saints to glory.
• Those left on earth will have 7 years of Tribulation.
• Jesus will then return to defeat His enemies in the Battle of Armageddon.
• Jesus will then reign for 1000 years in Jerusalem.
• Then the end of the earth will occur.
The Rapture:
People “Missing”
So…
What Will Happen?
First Thessalonians 4
The saints are “comforted” (verses 13-15)– They thought Christ would return in
their lifetime, but some died.– By dying, they felt as though the dead
had “missed out.”– Paul says the dead were “asleep.”
Why?– Do not sorry “like those who have no
hope.” Christians face death differently than others because of hope!
First Thessalonians 4
The Lord will descend (verse 16)– No messenger—Jesus Himself!– “Every eye will see Him” (Rev. 1:7).– “With a shout”– “With the voice of an archangel.”– “With the trumpet of God.”– Question: If this is supposed to be a
secret, why all the noise???
First Thessalonians 4
All “saints” will be changed (verses 16-17)– “The dead in Christ will rise first.”
This would have caused comfort.– Receive spiritual bodies (First
Corinthians 15:39-44)– Those who are still alive will also be
called up (not two different “comings” of Jesus)
First Thessalonians 4
The saints will be united with Christ (verse 17)– “In the air.” How will Jesus rule from
a throne in Jerusalem if He never sets foot on the earth again???
– “Always be with the Lord.” Eternal reunion!
“Therefore comfort one another with these
words.”
