Second Sunday of Lent 2020 Dear Parishioners and Friends of Saint Jerome,

Pax Christi semper vobiscum! Have you realized lately where God is sending

you to go? Have you come to understand well your call and the things that He wants you to accomplish?

I pondered these questions as I read our first reading during our liturgy this weekend. Abraham was called by Yahweh to accomplish His work in Shechem at Canaan. Abraham was supposed to give testimony of Yahweh to make known His greatness among the people who were without any relationship with the God of Israel. I can only imagine the people’s resistance. It was the certainty of Abraham’s faith that made him able to accomplish what was asked from him by Yahweh as Abraham relied on God’s promise of blessings.

In addition, our Gospel reading reiterates a very similar theme of a divine call. Jesus’ identity was introduced by the Father’s voice as His Begotten Son. Jesus was commissioned but also acclaimed as the Beloved of God.

Our Lenten journey is like the call of Abraham, as we are also sent to witness God’s blessings of grandeur. We are called like Jesus to the mission that God has entrusted to us, as we are assured by that same filial affiliation with the Father by virtue of our baptismal commitment. We are called by God and we are sent by Him. We have the obligation to give testimony to our profession of faith. Our promotion of peace and justice, our willingness to build a welcoming community, our response to end violence in words and in actions, as well as our decision to participate in the life of the Church are realities that the Lord wants us to re-create and live that we may accomplish the task that God has entrusted to us.

It all begins from the most basic interactions that we have with each other. It is when we become considerate of our neighbor by not taking advantage of his or her current social and economic situation that we promote justice and peace. It is in providing time and attention to our children and mentoring them properly as we demonstrate for them the Christian values that provide for them a strong moral foundation that we can create the most efficient familial unit of our society. It is when we spend our time efficiently by accomplishing the task that we have agreed we are being paid for that we become collaborators in making a society of responsible citizens in true service to one another through our labor. It is when we treat each other with gentleness and kindness that we can eradicate violence in our

¡Pax Christi semper vobiscum! ¿Te has dado cuenta últimamente a dónde te está

enviando Dios? ¿Has llegado a entender bien tu llamado y las cosas que Él quiere que cumplas?

Medité estas preguntas mientras leía nuestra primera lectura durante nuestra liturgia este fin de semana. Abraham fue llamado por Yahveh para llevar a cabo su obra en Siquem en Canaán. Se suponía que Abraham debía dar testimonio de Yahveh para dar a conocer Su grandeza entre las personas que no tenían ninguna relación con el Dios de Israel. Solo puedo imaginar la resistencia de la gente. Fue la certeza de la fe de Abraham lo que lo hizo capaz de lograr lo que Yahveh le pidió cuando Abraham confió en la promesa de bendiciones de Dios.

Además, nuestra lectura del Evangelio reitera un tema muy similar de un llamado divino. La identidad de Jesús fue introducida por la voz del Padre como su Hijo engendrado. Jesús fue comisionado pero también aclamado como el Amado de Dios.

Nuestro viaje de Cuaresma es como el llamado de Abraham, ya que también somos enviados a presenciar las bendiciones de grandeza de Dios. Somos llamados como Jesús a la misión que Dios nos ha confiado, ya que estamos seguros de esa misma filiación filial con el Padre en virtud de nuestro compromiso bautismal. Somos llamados por Dios y somos enviados por Él. Tenemos la obligación de dar testimonio de nuestra profesión de fe. Nuestra promoción de la paz y la justicia, nuestra voluntad de construir una comunidad acogedora, nuestra respuesta para poner fin a la violencia en palabras y en acciones, así como nuestra decisión de participar en la vida de la Iglesia son realidades que el Señor quiere que volvamos a crear. y vivir para que podamos cumplir la tarea que Dios nos ha confiado.

Todo comienza con las interacciones más básicas que tenemos entre nosotros. en colaboradores para hacer que una sociedad de ciudadanos responsables se sirva mutuamente a través de nuestro trabajo. Es cuando nos tratamos con gentileza y amabilidad que podemos erradicar la violencia en nuestros hogares y en nuestras comunidades. Es en nuestra sincera expresión de fe que recreamos comunidades de fe más auténticas donde todos están conectados e interdependientes entre sí.

Esto es lo que se debe transfigurar en Cristo. Nos convertimos como Jesucristo, que eligió obedecer la voz del Padre que proclamó su filiación divina en medio de los conflictos humanos. Esto es lo que significa ser fiel. Nuestra fe se vuelve como la de Abraham, que eligió obedecer al Señor a pesar de la invisibilidad de las bendiciones que Dios prometió.

Quizás este segundo domingo de Cuaresma sea un buen punto de referencia para que nos preguntemos si estamos tomando en serio nuestro viaje de Cuaresma. ¿Vemos al Señor como nuestro punto de referencia para nuestra propia transfiguración?

homes and in our communities. It is in our sincere expression of faith that we re-create more authentic faith communities where all are connected and interdependent upon each other.

This is what is meant to be transfigured in Christ. We become like Jesus Christ who chose to obey the voice of the Father that proclaimed His Divine Sonship amid human conflicts. This is what it means to be faithful. Our faith becomes like that of Abraham who chose to obey the Lord despite the invisibility of the blessings God promised.

Perhaps this Second Sunday of Lent may be a good point of reference for us to ask ourselves whether we are taking our Lenten journey seriously. Do we see the Lord as our point of reference for our own transfiguration?

Prayer to St. Joseph Oh, St. Joseph, whose protection is so great, so strong, so

This prayer was found in the 16th century. In 1505 it was sent from the Pope to Emperor Charles when he was going into battle.

Whoever shall read this prayer or hear it or keep it on their person, shall never die a sudden death, nor be

drowned, nor shall poison take effect upon them; neither shall they fall into the hands of their enemies; nor shall

they be burned in any fire, nor be overpowered in battle. Say this prayer for nine consecutive mornings for

anything you may desire according to God’s Will. It has never been known to fail.
