The purpose of our “Ask the Lawyer” legal clinics are to offer free, limited legal advice to residents of the State of Michigan on a first-come, first-served-basis. Legal volunteers can-not file court papers for you or appear in court on your behalf. They do not offer legal rep-resentation. Their manner of advocacy is direct assistance, legal advice and counsel, re-search and scholarship, education, media outreach, policy development and public pro-gramming. Attorneys may charge up to $10.00 for performing each notarial act. Please ar-rive at least 30 minutes before 3:00pm.

SELF-DEFENSE CLASSES

Friday, April 6th - May 4th from 2:30–3:30pm $3.00 residents & $3.25 non-residents Join Jeff Perkins, a retired Police Lieutenant and an 8th Degree Black Belt, as he teaches you how to reduce your chances of being a victim of a violent crime through risk aware-ness, recognition, avoidance, and basic self-defense techniques. This workshop will run 5 consecutive weeks, beginning Friday, April 6th from 2:30 – 3:30PM at the Civic Park Sen-ior Center. You may come to as many sessions as desired. You will need to bring a towel, water, and wear comfortable clothing. Please register at the volunteer desk or by calling (734) 466-2555. Fees are payable to the instructor. Please note that during this time pe-riod mature martial arts will not be taking place. It will resume Friday, May 11th.

BRUSH AND BRUNCH WITH STEVE WOOD

Saturday, April 14th at 11am $35.00 residents & $38.00 non-residents The Civic Park Senior Center is hosting its first ever Brush and Brunch with local artist Steve Wood. Come sip on a tasty beverage and enjoy a yummy brunch while Steve guides you in creating a one-of-a-kind acrylic painting to take home. No experience is necessary as he provides easy to follow, step-by-step instructions. Brunch will consist of pastries, quiche, fresh fruit, cheese & crackers, vegetable tray, bagels, coffee or tea, cream cheese & lox, assorted juices, and a mimosa bar. In the event of a major snow/ice storm, and the Livonia Public Schools are closed, the Civic Park Senior Center will be closed and Senior Center buses will NOT run! We would like everyone to stay as healthy as possible. We ask that you review the Univer-sal Precautions that are suggested by the Centers for Disease Control. Do not come to the Center if you have a cold, runny nose, sniffles, infected eyes, or a cough. If you have an infection, do not come in. SENIOR CENTER, GROCERY SHOPPING, WESTLAND MALL & DOCTOR VAN SENIOR CENTER TRANSPORTATION BUS (S.C.A.N.)

The Senior Center Transportation Buses provide curb-to-curb rides within the City limit on a donation basis. Rides are available to local shopping districts, grocery stores, Westland Mall (1st & 3rd Thursday 10:30am) and to the Senior Center. Service hours for the Senior Center are Monday thru Friday. 1. Senior Center. Buses leave from the Senior Center at 8:30am and we ask that you be ready for pick up by 8:30am. Buses return home 1:00pm Monday–Friday and 3:00pm Mondays & Tuesdays & Special Event Days. 2. Grocery Shopping Monday-Friday (Locations Vary) depending if you are North or South of 5 Mile Road. Call (734) 466-2555 for shopping locations. Driver will inform riders the amount of time allowed at the store and pickup location at designated time. 3. Westland Mall Shopping takes place on the 1st (minimum of 4 riders) & 3rd Thursdays of every month. Bus departs for pickup at 10:30am so please be ready for pickup at that time. Once at the Mall the driver will inform you the amount of time you will be allowed and the pickup location (Usually where you are dropped off).

Monday-Friday the Civic Park Senior Center offers a shuttle to doctors’ offices within the City of Livonia and up to one mile outside the City limits. Please contact (734) 466-2700 to make your advance reservation. There is no charge for this service (donations grateful-ly accepted). This service fills up quickly so please call as soon as you know the date and time of your appointment. All vehicles are wheelchair equipped. Age 60 and over. Reser-vations accepted up to 90 days in advance. Maximum of two (2) rides per week. You must make your appointment so that you are able to get home before/no later than 2:30pm. Our vehicles do not provide transportation to or from nursing homes or assisted living fa-cilities. We Do Not Transport Medical Emergencies!
