It was only yesterday that I was canvassing for votes for election as VDG in East London and we are half way through the Lionistic year. It has been a very exciting year for Els and myself and we have learned a lot. The highlight (low light!) of the year was definitely Medic Alert. It was awesome to be part and parcel of a process that has had such an impact on our Multiple District. The best part of the year was our second Council Meeting in Amanzimtoti where we learned that, with a little bit of luck all the hard work was worthwhile and Multiple District 410 will still be in charge of Medic Alert and not of Lionscare! Mediation and arbitration are in place at the moment with Medic Alert USA to ensure that this will happen. Registration fees for Multiple District Convention in Worcester 2002 will be subsidised by Council from the District Convention Fund. That means that it will only cost R420.00 per delegate which will include:
1. Welcome dinner and entertainment 2. Theme function evening 3. Multiple District banquet 4. Meeting breaks tea / coffee 5. Material satchet with lots of goodies 6. Wine at certain functions 7. Transport to and from certain gatherings 8. Live entertainment and etc.
Unfortunately my appointment as Vice District Governor has had a detrimental effect on us attending normal club functions. Please bear with us, we miss being part of Sheppie but we are now part of the bigger family of Lions in District 410C. To Lion President Richard and Jane - guys you have done an excellent job so far, keep up the good work. It is and will always be a great privilege and honour to introduce myself to other clubs as being a member of the Lions Club of Port Shepstone. To those members of Port Shepstone, that have expressed their willingness to serve on my Cabinet next year, I salute you and thank you for your support. May you all have a Blessed Christmas and a Happy and Prosperous New Year! Enjoy the rest of the Lionistic Year. Lion Paul Adendorff (Vice District Governor 410C)

LIONS CLUBS INTERNATIONAL & THE UNITED NATIONS
For more than 20 years, Lions have celebrated their historical relationship with the United Nations (UN) with the annual Lions Day with the UN event.
Held in the early months of the calendar year (usually February or March), hundreds of Lions, Leos and guests travel to New York City, New York, USA for a memorable day at UN Headquarters.
Highlights include:
Presentations by UN speakers
Guest appearance by the Secretary-General of the UN
Special luncheon with UN ambassadors
Optional tour of the UN building The relationship between Lions Clubs International and the UN began after the end of World War II.
In San Francisco, California, USA, on October 24, 1945 (forever known as UN Day), U.S. President Harry S. Truman joined Britain's Prime Minister Winston Churchill and other world leaders in signing the UN charter.
In the same year, Lions founder Melvin Jones and Past International Presidents Fred W. Smith and D.A. Skeen were asked to help develop the non-governmental organization (NGO) charter for the new global organization. At the time, Lions Clubs International was already an established worldwide service organization.
During the ensuing years, the two organizations have cooperated on many humanitarian ventures. Lions have provided aid and manpower for UNICEF (United Nations Children's Fund), WHO (World Health Organization), and UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) projects.
From the beginning, the relationship between Lions Clubs International and the UN has been limited to humanitarian endeavors. In keeping with its stated Objects, Lions Clubs International has no involvement in the political or security affairs of the UN.

Half Way Laugh A blonde calls her boyfriend on the phone with a problem."What's the matter?" he asks."Well, I've bought this jigsaw puzzle, but it's too hard. None of the pieces fit together and I can't find any edges." "What's the picture
of?", he asks. "It's of a big rooster", she replies."All right," he says, "I'll come over and have a look."When he
arrives, she thanks him for coming over and leads him over to the kitchen table where she has it laid out. He
takes one look at what she's been struggling with and says, "Oh, for pete=s sake, put the bloody Cornflakes
back in the box!"

It is hard to believe that Christmas is almost here! We seem to have had a busy Lions time in the past few weeks. The Leadership Retreat Course was, once again, a great success. A big thank you to all the Lions who spent most of their weekend with the students. A most enjoyable weekend was had by ALL! Last Saturday our Club was the venue for the ABlind Bingo@ Christmas Party. My thanks go to Trevor and Suzanna, Pieter and Joey, Alastair and Karin and Otto who have always made themselves available to host the Blind Bingo once a month on a Saturday afternoon. Our Club was also the venue for a 70
th birthday party early in November. Reg
Geddie had a wonderful party, our Ladies did a great job of catering (>simply the best!=) and thanks to Otto and his team, the bar was also run very well. We had the launch of the Christmas cakes at our Club last week and now the big task is to try and sell all the cakes. Please will anyone assist - if each Lion sold one case, we would be almost there! The Christmas party for the old folk is once again being organised by Hilton and will take place at the High School Hostel on Saturday 1
st December at 12.30 pm. It
would be great to see as many Lions as possible there to assist. Just a little of our time goes a long way to making the day memorable for the old folk. Please remember our Lions Christmas get together at the Clubhouse on Saturday 15
th December at 07.00 pm. Please join us for a festive evening - the ladies don=t
even have to cater!! A Zone Meeting will be held at Hibberdene on Saturday 24
th November at 02.00 pm.
Please will all lions make an effort to attend. Aparently there will be quite a contingent from all the other Clubs as this is the last Zone Meeting of the Year. I would really appreciate it if there were at least a few members from our Club attending. A braai will be held after the meeting.
