John Maronic Award. The award is given annually during the VMs’ National Conference for distinguished service in ministry to people with disabilities and those who share the journey. The VMs, based at the National Shrine of Our Lady of the Snows, are people dedicated to providing spiritual support for all those with disabilities or who are chronically ill and their caregivers. Founded by Fr. John Maronic, O.M.I. it was the first such movement formed by and run by persons with disabilities. Today there are VM chapters throughout the United States. Sister Josanne was one of the early pioneers of the VM Chapter in Buffalo, New York. She has left a loving mark on the hearts of the sisters in her religious community as well as the disabled living in Buffalo. Sister Josanne became disabled after falling down 22 concrete steps that caused seven broken vertebrae and a concussion. She has worn a brace for about 20 years. In spite of her disability, Sr. Josanne has ministered to her beloved sick and elderly sisters in the infirmary for many years. She also opened the Office for the Disabled in the Buffalo Diocese of Western New York, and was the stimulus for many parishes to become wheelchair accessible. More than 150 churches in the Buffalo area are now wheelchair accessible thanks to the efforts of Sr. Josanne. “The VMs are very close to my heart,” said Sr. Josanne. “May this beautiful organization grow as we all get closer to God.” SHARING YOUR BLESSINGS…you’ll be feeding hungry children, sheltering the homeless and spreading Christ’s message of hope throughout the world when you “SHARE YOUR BLESSINGS” by remembering the Missionary Oblates in your Will. To find out about our family tree, we go to Ancestry.com. To find out about Jesus’

ancestors we go to the genealogy in the Gospel of Matthew. Here we find his relatives with strange-sounding names, like Hezron, Amminadab, Rehoboam, Ahaz and Zerubbabel. And stranger yet is what they contributed to salvation history. For three weeks we will study Matthew chapter 1 and note these strange relatives of Jesus. Please note that because of space limitations, registration is limited to 15 people.
