About THE SOCIAL AGE

THE SOCIAL AGE is a specialty meat, cheese and wine shop located in Chicago’s Old Town neighborhood. We serve high quality food in a modern, yet casual environment. Our unique features include signature sandwiches

made with specialty meats and cheeses, bacon charcuterie boards and a “do it yourself” wine vending machine.

THE SOCIAL AGE aims to please whoever walks in the door; for those who want to grab a quick bite or wind down with a glass of wine, THE SOCIAL AGE

is the place to be. “Eat. Drink. Socialize.”

Social defines our generation: We know what we want, and we want it fast. THE SOCIAL AGE aims to please both the palette and lifestyle of the modern generation. We want our customers to have a welcoming space to sip and

socialize, eat and tweet, or simply grab and go. “Age” is of much importance to our concept, too. The aging process is a critical part of what makes a tasty

wine or a flavorful cheese. Aging takes time, and THE SOCIAL AGE values time in order to create the best possible food, drink and atmosphere.

Marketing PlanTarget Audience: Ages 20-40, middle-upper class, including families.

Experience: A quick, yet upscale place to dine and socialize

Location: Old Town

1. Who we will be contacting pre-opening: Social media influencers and bloggers,

neighborhood contacts and local businesses

Big opening event: Friends and family event- Invite the local neighborhood residents for a

“Taste of THE SOCIAL AGE” where they can enjoy select menu items. This event will help

grow our neighborhood customer database through word of mouth from those who attend.

VS. Media influencer event- Invite influential Chicago food bloggers, such as Chicago Eats and

Chicago Food Authority, for a “Wine and Dine Night”- This event will sample some of our

favorite wines, meats and cheeses. We will put on this event in hopes that the bloggers will post

about our restaurant and that will increase the amount of viewers in our target audience.

2. Social: The social media generation is a critical piece of our target audience, and a strong

social media presence will be the best way to reach this group.

We will have an in-store social contact that will constantly update the accounts with new images

and information. This person will also help to enhance customer service by responding to issues

or successful experiences via our social media accounts. This contact will be able to reach out to

customers in a more efficient way than a customer service site.

The platform we will utilize the most is Facebook

- “Opening Sweepstakes”

o “Like” our opening event FB page and enter an email- Everyone who enters

an email will get a 10% off first purchase coupon. This will help build the

email database for future mailings, as well as start to circulate our name on

social media.

- Facebook Ads

o We are going to target the advertisements towards those who “like” certain

pages on Facebook (I.e. wine, sandwich, meat and cheese lovers)

21

Page 23: The Social Age

We are also going to target these users based on nearby zip codes to

narrow to the specific demographic we are interested in.

- Facebook Videos- We will utilize this new feature of Facebook and post videos, such

as “Meat the Team” and sneak previews of the food and design.

Twitter and Instagram accounts

- We will have an internal photographer to take photos of the food, wine, design,

construction, special recipes, etc. to post on Instagram, Twitter and Facebook.

- We want to connect with food apps such as Sosh Sosh is described as a “personal

concierge for your social life” that sends users recommendations based on their

interests. Sosh posts local events and specials, and has the ability to target users who

are interested in particular topics. A connection with Sosh will help us connect with

more people who would be interested in attending our classes and special events.

- Partner with apps like GrubHub and Uber Eats: Since we will have a focus on

catering and carryout, a presence on these mobile food ordering sites will help

increase our customer database.

3. Email Marketing: An email database will be one of the most effective ways to reach the

majority of our target audience. Since email is the most common means of communication for

our wide range of consumers, it will be one of the most important marketing tools.

- We will send out a weekly email to include information on: new menu items, special

promotions, special events, classes, loyalty programs and clubs, etc.

4. Loyalty Program

- We will have a Wine & Cheese Club

Ex. of what types of discounts club members can receive- For every 12 bottles

of wine, get 10% off the next bottle.

- Other loyalty features directed toward the more casual customer- A sandwich punch

card (buy 7 sandwiches, get the 8th sandwich free).

22

Page 24: The Social Age

5. Gift Cards: We will market our gift cards in store, on our website and on our social media

sites. We want our gift cards to be the perfect gift and serve as multi-purpose cards, for dining in,

carryout, catering and classes. Gift cards will also be given away during special events and

promotions as an incentive to come back.

6. Direct Mail Campaign: Using the database we have built through the opening event,

sweepstakes, loyalty programs, etc. we will send out direct mail coupons (ex. birthday coupons,

wine of the season, etc). Our main piece of direct mail will be coupons sent to those in the local

neighborhoods.

7. In-store “Education”: Classes will be taught in store for local residents to learn more about

cheese, wine, food and drink pairings, etc. We will bring in wine and cheese experts to teach

these classes. There will also be the option to book private classes.

8. Targeting Local Businesses: Discounted lunch catering for local businesses. We will also

choose one business per month to do a free lunch “drop off.” This is the perfect audience to

target for carryout and catering, and these promotions will increase our market presence.

9. Website to include: About page, menu, catering menu, information on loyalty clubs,

information about classes and special events, and links to our social media platforms.

10. Miscellaneous marketing strategies that will be marketed through the stores and on social

media: “Wine of the Month” and “Cheese of the Month”: Each month there will be specials for

the wine and cheese of the month, “Sample Saturday”: Every Saturday we will sample a new

meat, cheese and wine, Social media contests: Ex.- Each month we will select a winning

Instagram photo and the winner will receive an in store gift card.
