  • 2. RELIGION DEFINE : Religion, being another of the social institutions of society, is the realm in society where our beliefs about a supernatural power and an afterlife and how these impact on our life now, exist.
  • 3. FEATURES OF RELIGION: PRAYER AND RITUAL BELIEF ORGANIZATION
  • 4. FUNCTIONALIST PERSPECTIVES ON RELIGION . Teach Obedience Preserve in suffering and Trails Teach Virtues such as truth, discipline and sobriety. Respect for Authority
  • 5. Religions that are dominant in our social institution of religion tend to be the ones that have been legitimised by European colonial rule. Europeans or elites, after emancipation, did not curb the involment of the population in becoming devotees of mainstream churches.
  • 6. In Trinidad and Tobago while Hinduism and Islam are observed by a large percentage of the population,it may not be true to say that they represent values of the dominant in instiutional environment of religion. This is because Roman Catholicism and other religions dominate public life and national symbols.
  • 7. SYNCRETIC RELIGIONS Complexity is deepened when we think of those religions that adopted some Christian elements but created a hydrid with African traditions and new world adaptations. These were never welcome by Europeans and elites because of the changes in music which includes Drumming ,dancing ,hand clapping and loud singing.. Note also that persons of all social ranks and ethnic origin have now joined the Rastafari Faith.
  • 8. CONFLICT PERSPECTIVE ON RELIGION Marx saw religion as social drug that nullified the negative effects of the exloitative production. Religion serves to reinforce and legitimize the position of the capitalist. Religion is an Illusion
  • 9. TYPES OF RELIGION WITHIN THE CARIBBEAN ANGLICAN,SHANGO,ROMAN Catholicism,Hinduism,Islam,Pe ntecostal,Revival,Rastafari,Bap tists,Methodist,orisha and Presbyterianism

EDUCATION-BUILDING SCHOOLS AND TRAINING CENTRES Architecture- From the pyramids, to the cathedrals of Europe to Mosques of Turkey, all are beautiful buildings. HEALTH/MEDICINE-BUILDING OF HOSPICE TO CARE FOR THE SICK AND DYING. DRESSING- Influence how believers should dress on a daily occasion. Or way of Life. E.g Muslims females cover there heads at all times
