TODAY WE ARE GOING TO BE LEARNING ABOUT THE SOLAR SYSTEM.
• What are some things you already know about the solar system?
• Please make sure you are paying attention because
there will be a short quiz at the end!

THE SUN
• The Sun is the center of our solar system.
• The Sun is the largest object in our solar system.
• All of the planets in our solar system orbit the Sun.
• The Sun is a yellow star.

MERCURY
• Mercury is the closest planet to the Sun.
• It is only a little bit bigger than the moon.
• Mercury is extremely hot .

VENUS
• Venus is the sister planet to Earth.
• Venus is almost the same size as Earth.
• It is the second planet away from the Sun.

EARTH
• Earth is the third planet from the Sun.
• It is the only planet that currently supports life.
• Earth is the planet we live on.

MARS
• The fourth planet in our solar system is Mars, our moon is not a planet.
• Mars is called the red planet because of the way its soil looks.
• Scientists believe that there used to be water on the planet Mars.

JUPITER
• Jupiter is the largest planet in the solar system.
You could fit all of the planets inside it!
• Jupiter is made of gases.
• Jupiter has a giant red spot.

SATURN
• Saturn is the second largest planet in our solar system.
• You can tell Saturn from the other planets by its distinct rings.
• Saturn is made of gases.
• Saturn is the sixth planet in our solar system.

URANUS
• Uranus is the seventh planet in our solar system.
• Uranus is made up of gases but has a core made of rock.

NEPTUNE
• Smallest of the planets made of gas.
• Neptune is known for it’s very strong winds.
• Neptune is the eighth and final planet in our solar system.

PLUTO
• Was considered a planet when I was your age.
• No longer considered a planet.
• Pluto is very small, smaller than the moon!
• Made up of ice.
