The Red Letter Challenge is starting. I have been intrigued by how many different series this Church has gone through in the past. I can’t remember visit-ing or attending a church that did this quite so much. From conversations I have had with others, the attendance and participation in these various series’

has been quite good.

I read the pamphlet and Dick made the presentation to the BOD to give us an idea of what this is about. I’m expecting that a majority of the RLC will be focusing on the Sermon on the Mount, which is three

solid chapters of nothing but Red.

The question that some might have is ‘why are we doing this?’ The simple answer is the BOD approved it, it seemed like a good idea, so here we go. In reali-ty, we are in a vacancy situation and the devil seems

to find a different playing level during these times.

Congregations fracture much more easily when they are without a shepherd. In our case, we have four capable men who have done an incredible job so far of preaching the Gospel, and will hopefully continue to do so. But, as can sometimes happen, and it hap-pened in Paul’s time as he spoke about favorites with

“whose baptism was better than whose”?

The Red Letter Challenge is really an opportunity for our congregation to galvanize as we head into the summer months. A congregation able to keep focus on a singular vision, both on Sunday and in small

groups, gives Satan no chance.

In His Service, Jerry

Easter is finally done, and here comes summer.

Friends and family of MSLC,

May is here and summer is on the horizon. One reason I don’t like Easter coming so late —is that sum-

mer, for some, is six weeks away.

I mentioned last month that the BOD would now move on with our short and long term ministry goals from last summer’s World Café. The end-of-summer retreat by the BOD defined the ‘fix it now’ projects and categorized the ministry goals as those which were somewhat attainable, short term, and those which would need vision and planning, long term. The nice thing about the ‘fix it now’ list is that it was very tan-

gible. Here’s what needs to be done, here’s how to do it, fix it or correct it, move on to the next.

The ministry goals are slightly more complex. Two of the short term goals are currently in the process of being fulfilled: summer VBS will be returning, and with the Red Letter Challenge, an expansion of our small group ministries. I was going to share the rest of the list of short and long term, but I believe it is in all of our best interests for the BOD to take another look at these lists and decide the best course of future

action.

Though the Board’s project list is complete, Eddy Braun, our Operations man, has been busy trying to fix or upgrade as he sees the need. The next landscape project is to fill all of our dirt islands with plants. I’m

hoping, as of this writing, that the “bring the plants” announcement has been made, if not, it’s coming soon.

I also have to apologize because our mission bulletin and video project is still not completed. I’m realizing

how busy people are and when you have the chance to do it, do it!

Calling All Women:

Morning Star Lutheran Church has a women’s Bible Study group that meets on the second Wednesday of each month (unless there are special services at the church). Our next Bible Study will be on Wednesday,

May 8th at 7 PM. We meet at the home of Kara Birren

– 8056 Smokewood Dr, Santee.

The book/guide that we are using is Waiting: A Bible Study on Patience, Hope and Trust. You will love the author as she relates stories from her own experience plus Women from the Bible that have had to wait on the Lord. These lessons are inspiring and practical for

your everyday living. Please come and be blessed.

If you want a copy of the book, see Linda Hobson any week at church

or you may call if you have questions.

See you on May 8th – Linda Hobson

Happy Easter today and always:

~ Submitted by Jim Birren

The four Gospels each contain bits of information about the events occurring after the resurrection of

Jesus Christ.

Christ has risen from the dead early Sunday morning, accompanied by a violent earthquake. The guards are

traumatized because they have seen an angel, and they are awestruck. Matthew 28:2-4

Mary Magdalene and another Mary walk to the tomb. When they arrived, the stone had been rolled away. To their surprise, the guards were nowhere to be found and she must tell Peter that someone has moved

Jesus’ body. Matthew 28:1

Then there was another group of women who scheduled\led to meet at the tomb. They carry burial spices to complete the burial process, which had been hurried. Upon their way to the tomb they concerned themselves about finding some men to help roll the stone away. To their surprise, the women see two angels, and one told the women that Jesus has been raised. They now have some fear and wondered.

Where is he? Mark 16:2-8 and Luke 24:1-8 and Matthew 28:5-8.

Then Peter and John arrived after being summoned by Mary Magdalene who apparently followed them. John only looks into the tomb, but Peter goes inside. Jesus is gone and only burial clothes remain. Peter and John leave, however Mary Magdalene stays at the tomb to grieve that someone has removed the body

of Jesus. Luke 24:12 and John 20:3-10.

~ Happy Easter today and always: (Continued from page 3.)

Then Jesus appeared to Mary Magdalene alone. She thought at first that it was the Gardner, then sees it is

her Lord Jesus. John 20:11-17 and Mark 16:9.

Jesus then appears to Mary, one of the other women telling them that it is I Jesus. Go tell my disciples

that I will meet them in Galilee. But the disciples wrote it off as nonsense. Matthew28:9-10.

Jesus then appeared to Cleopas and his friend on Easter Sunday. Luke 24:13-22 and Mark 16: 12-13. These two disciples give the “Good News Gospel” to the Apostles that evening. Mark 6:13 and Luke 24:33-35. While the Apostles discussed the validity of the two disciples, they are also in hiding, fearful that the Jews

might capture and harm them as they did with Jesus.

Then Jesus appeared to the apostles with Thomas absent. They believed Jesus was a Ghost. Jesus encour-aged them to look at His hands and His feet. He insists that they touch his wounds to be convinced. And

they did!

Now the risen Jesus provides more convincing as he reclines to eat with them, and the reality of Jesus, not a ghost, is registered! “He is really risen”! They are excited and overjoyed as Jesus breathes the Holy

Spirit on them. Mark 16: 14 and Luke 24:36-43 and John 20:19:25.

Naysayers

Don’t expect us to believe that Jesus is again alive just because of the testimony of his disciples and

apostles. Prove that Jesus is alive again!

♦ 1 Corinthians 15:6 testifies that he appeared to a crowd of over 500.

♦ 1 Corinthians 15:5 testifies that he appeared to James and Peter later again.

♦ 1 Corinthians 15:8 testifies that he appeared to Paul on the road to Damascus.

Matthew 28:19 testifies and commands us to go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Jesus came into this world as a man, a teacher of only good, knowing he would have our sins heaped upon Him while on the cross, accepted the penalty of death for being MY SAVIOR. He came to love, heal, and forgive. He lived and died to buy my pardon. An

empty grave is there to prove My Savior lives.

Because He lives, I can face tomorrow, because He lives all fear is gone, because I know He holds the future, and life is worth the living just because He lives. Christ is Risen! He is Risen indeed!
