You never know when a test might come on this stuff, and you

would want to know the information.

TYPES OF THEATRE’S

Theatre-in-the-round

STAGE

Actors perform in full view from all angles. Minimal scenery and

limited space leave the audience to create with their imagination.

STAGETheatre-quarter

theaterOften an awkward arrangement because actors cannot use the

front of the stage without alienating portions of the

audience. Similar consequences as theatre-in-the-round.

TYPES OF THEATRE’S

Two-sided theatre

STAGE

Very few of these types of theatre’s still exist. This runway-like stage is used for combat and minimalist shows. All entrances

and exits must be from the same side.

STAGE

End stage theatreThis one of the most common spaces. It creates a box-like

impression in which the actors are separated from the audience

by the proscenium. There is plenty of room to hide the sets

and costumes backstage.

TYPES OF THEATRE’S

Thrust stage theatreThis is another common

arrangement for a theatre space. It, just like the end stage theatre,

provides plenty of room backstage. However it, unlike the end stage, provides the actor the opportunity to get close up to the

audience.PITLOCKRY HALLThis is La Habra High School’s

space. It was designed to be used as a Lecture Hall, not as a theatre, and that creates some interesting

problems for a theatre performance. But it is a unique

combination of an end-stage and a thrust stage, with no seats on the

side

THEATRE SPACE EMAIL ASSIGNMENTYour assignment is two fold: first to become

more familiar with different types of theatres and secondly to demonstrate your computer

and internet skills. You will go on the internet and find a picture of a

theatre space. You will copy that picture into a Word document and then you will comment, in the

document, about the features of that picture that you are familiar with. You will also write a several

sentences detailing what you feel about the particular picture that you copied. You will then attach that

message in an email and send it to…
