The SparkPlug Oregon State UMCI - April 2020
Kevin's Comments
Hi to everyone! I hope this newsletter finds all of you in God’s good spirits and that you’ve had that first ride of 2020, and all went well. It’s March 14th, as I ‘m composing this note. We had an inch of fresh snow this morning so no riding for me, I guess. Can’t believe it. We’ve had literally no snow this winter and now middle of March it snows. Never seen anything like it.
First of all, I’d like to thank all of my UMCI friends for the cards and get well notes following my heart attack. You don’t know how that makes me feel and how very lucky Kevi and I are to have your friendship. I’ve retired from work, although I have a few projects to complete for our Board of Direc-tors, day to day, but not coming to work unless absolutely needed.
The friendships that Kevi and I have made in UMCI are the greatest gifts that we could ever ask for. That is what the UMCI does, it puts people, all kinds of people together sharing something that they all love: FOOD, FRIENDSHIP and FUN. The club may have its struggles, but as long as we keep our friendship intact, the rest we can work on.
We have some exciting Rallies coming up. The first is our Spring Banquet in Connell. Hope that you can make it, the last weekend in April. Then, the Idaho State Rally, June 12-14, at Kamiah, Idaho. We always have a great time. Next up is the Washington State Rally, June 25-27, at Hidden Village RV in Lynden, Washington. Then it is our International Rally in Saskatchewan Canada at Moose Jaw, on July 20-23. Register early so at all of these events the people planning them can prepare meals and activi-ties accordingly. The Oregon State rally is at Tygh Valley Wasco County Fairgrounds, on Sept 4-7. Thank you to all of the members that are helping or running these events. It’s a lot of work and it’s appreciated.
Also, Coos Bay campout in August, at Coos County Fair Ground in August, dates to be determined. There is also the North Cascades Campout, August 7-9, Twisp Washington at Loup Loup Campground. To wrap up the season our Season finale is at Douglas RV Park, Douglas, Washington, on Sept 10-12. Gordon and Jan Dale are the organizers. Lots of fun!
So as you can see there’s plenty for us to do. We just have to organize our time and money and try to get to as many of these as we can. I have not been to one of these that I didn’t meet a new friend and really enjoyed my time with all of my old friends.
In the Columbia Basin News, we had about 15 show up for our breakfast meeting, no riders, except we were pleasantly surprised by John and Charlie that rode all the way from Spokane to have break-fast with us. It was only just a bit over 32 degrees when they arrived. They’re a lot tougher than me, but all in all, we had a great time.
Well I had better close. Again, thanks to all of you for being there for Kevi and I. It means the world to both of us. Until we meet again, Ride Safe, ride lots and most of all have a ton of fun.
Kevin and Kevi

April 2020 Rep’s Ramblings Time is fly’n, another month gone… So we are full into Spring as of the 19th (Leap Year), and we are getting more and more Sunny spring-like days, which is very nice to see! Lost Another One Well, we finally lost Norm Newton, former Mil-waukie Rep. Norm had been inactive for several years, since entering a memory care facility in Or-egon City. Last Sunday (3-8-2020) Norm passed away. At this point I have no deals on any ser-vices for Norm, will update if information re-ceived. Health Watch & Updates Golly Gee, we’ve gotten off to a really poor start this year on health issue, with a pile of medical issues, some worse than others. But, I guess it’s just another sign of our aging membership. Sad to hear, Jerry Broaddus, reported to me a week or so ago that Nevada has some pretty seri-ous cancer issues. All I know at this time is that she is receiving treatment. I will report as news is received. Dick Czmowski (AKA - Lefty) has been making slow but steady progress recovering from his bro-ken arm. He is getting PT at home, and Mary & I have been hauling him around to appointments, meetings and shopping. Larry Dunton has also provided rides for him. Sandy Neuburger, our Treasurer. The latest report from John, (Son) is that Sandy has been moved to a care facility, which is a positive note. She has been making slow but progressive improvement, with physical and speech therapy. That is good news and we are all cautiously optimistic for the best possible outcome!!! Hopes and Prayers for all for full and quick recov-ery! And, for the rest of you, Please Stay Healthy!!! I really don’t’ like this kind of bad news reports, but it is what it is…
Coronavirus Concerns – Suspension of Meet-ings and Events The Coronavirus has officially been declared a Pandemic! I recently sent out an email recom-mending suspension of meetings due concerns about unnecessary exposure. Given that almost our entire membership falls in the Highest Risk cate-gory for this Virus (60+ & possible underlying health issues), I felt it was a prudent decision. But then, I had just sent the email, when Governor Brown made it even more restrictive, limiting food service to take-out only. So, for probably the next month pretty much everything is on hold. During this unprecedented time, I encourage eve-ryone to stay in touch with each other by email, text, and phone, particularly for health and welfare checks. Take care of yourself and check on others in your local area!!! This to will pass eventually… Bike and Trike Service For those that have not heard, Taylor Honda in Woodburn, is closing as of May this year. It will be sad to see them go. But, after 55 years of great service, John has more than earned his retirement. Enjoy the easy life John!!! For those looking for an alternative shop for bike service, check out:

There was a lag in getting the financial records from Sandy, but I hope I got everyone that has paid. I now have on-line access to our account, so I can stay on top of things. Anything mailed to Sandy’s address eventually gets to me via her son, John, and Julia (Mom).
With Sandy being incapacitated, at least for now, until further notice please send all communications and financial transactions please to me:

April 2020 Metro News (Milwaukie, Oregon
City & Portland) – Ben Altman
Wow another month gone! We are now full into Spring, as of March 21st and back to daylight sav-ings time. February 29: A 5th Saturday (Leap Year), so nothing scheduled. However, I have to tell every-one, that I did get a call from Sheryl Bisceglia, wanting to know why no one was at the Wichita Grill??? Guess they figured it out, as I didn’t get the message until about 10:00 that morning. March 7: Sister Mary is here for a month or so, waiting for Steve Close to return from Arizona. We swung by to pick up Lefty (CZ) to take him to the Grill for the actual first Saturday breakfast. It was overcast, so it was really dark this morning. We only had 8 attending this morning. Mike Bis-ceglia was there, but Sheryl was home not felling very well. March 14: Second Saturday back at the Wichita Grill. So, this morning we had snow and only 34 degrees. That just ain’t right! Given the bad weather, and that virus thing, we only had 4 to start with.
But, then Roger & Sig Neale wondered after we had all finished eating. As I told them, same day counts! March 15: This afternoon we had the annual St. Patrick’s Day lunch at the Bomber. It was a very nice sunny day. We had 12 attending this year, our lowest turn-out ever. But, then again, not a bad turnout, given the status of our Club, and the current Coronavirus issues. March 21: Canceled for Coronavirus Concerns. March 28: Canceled for Coronavirus Concerns.
Corona Virus Concerns – Temporary Suspension of Meetings Given that almost our entire membership falls in the Highest Risk category for the Virus (60+ & general health) I think it might be a good idea to suspend meetings for at least a few weeks!
For the Portland/Metro Area I am officially suspending meetings until April 11th
.
That means our next breakfast will be April 11th at the Wichita Grill, unless the Governor’s restriction has not been lifted. So, stay tuned… Grants Pass/Medford These are some strange times. Restaurants are closed, it isn't safe to meet. But as far as I can tell it is safe or safest to ride, and we can ride together. Why not? We can maintain a safe social distance while meeting up and going for a ride. Just re-member to bring something to eat and drink as the restaurants are closed and nowhere is safe to buy food unnecessarily. As I am writing this it is the first day of spring and it is a beautiful day here in Southern Oregon. I just sent an email with our latest Membership List to all the Members here so we can all keep in touch. Lets all think about ride. In these strange time I think a ride can do us all some good. Rick Foley Grants Pass/Medford UMCI Area Rep.

Wow: So much is happening. A month ago most everything was Sunshine and Roses, depending on your point of view.
Now the DOOM and GLOOM is all the HEAD-LINE.
This to shall pass, So Remember the GOOD TIMES, and plan for the good times ahead.
So much for the things we have no control over. Less pick ourselves UP dust OURSELVES off, shine and polish our trusty STEEDS, and GO for a RIDE.
I was sitting here watching the TV getting upset. It was Sun shining, warm outside, I said to myself, self, I should ride my trike. So I did, damn I feel so much better. I rode 50 miles and bought some jerky, visited with friends and come home. Life is still good, enjoy it!
Getting back to regular business, I went to Grants Pass. Rick and the crew almost made 20. They’re meeting at the Black Forest
Now that it reopened after the fire, good food. Good Food and Good Friends, that’s what we’re about. Rick was the big 50/50 winner.
The Roseburg meeting was the next morning. Rick Foley from GP was there, before me. Only 7 made it. It was the morning the
STUPID STUPID DUMBLITE SAVE NOTHING TIME started up. We talked about the future of UMCI. No 50/50.
Well I hope and Pray everyone is well. GOD BLESS AND GOD SPEED.

Hidden Village RV (map) was a great find last year, with nice rides to boot. Irene and available staff, outdid themselves with the banquet funds; home cooked all meals, breakfasts and dinners, on premise in the clubhouse. Also, Mama Susan’s strawberry shortcake, mmmm good! And, can’t forget Duane Wood and his custom BBQ grill made for UMCI; excellent job! This year is slated to be the same; food everywhere.
Invite a friend or non-member
Early registration (helps planning), is discounted to $35.00 per person (for 3 nights). After May 23rd, registration reverts to the full rate of $45.00 per person.
