Parking at Chabot is hectic, especially during the first few weeks of school, so the Chabot Spectator would like to give you a few tips on parking and driving safely on campus: • Arrive early! At least 30 minutes to one hour, this will save you from being late and ultimately get you a good spot in a timely manner. Traffic before 9 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. classes seems to be the worst when it comes to finding a spot, so the earlier the better!• Please refrain from all texting until out of the car! Students are walking and driving around lots often, and a text message is not worth endangering yours or others’ lives.

• Parking without a semester permit is a really bad choice. If you do the math, it’s $2 per temporary permit, so if you come four times a week that’s $8 a week. Now $8 times 15 weeks equals $120. You’re saving $100 just by buying a $20 permit! Not to mention parking without a permit is a $35 minimum ticket you just don’t need! • When it comes to night classes, there’s an increased risk of cars getting broken into, so please DO NOT leave valuables visible in your car, and take them with you if at all possible.• If you need assistance in walking to your car, then this is one number you will want to save! Chabot security would be happy to escort you, and you can call them at (510) 723-6923 any time, day or night.

That’s about it for now, so follow these tips and you will be parking like a pro at Chabot in no time.

Auditions for this semester’s fall production “Particulate Matter” continue this week on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday at 3 p.m. in building 700.

“Particulate Matter” is a play written and directed by Rachel LePell, professor and head of the theater department at Chabot College.

The play is loosely based on the struggles of Hayward against the building of the Russell City Power Plant in the past few years.

“Particulate Matter” centers around Josh, a man on the brink of his 30’s who is suffering in his marriage and battling politics. His wife Lily, a Ph.D candidate in biology, struggles to communicate with Josh and allows herself to be allured by Diane while all three get involved in the community fight against the power plant.

There is also conflict amongst the protesters, “new school” versus “old school” activist strategies, while the Occupy movement grows.

The play features two men and several women, as well as a chorus. It takes place over the course of 10 years, from 2002 to 2012.

According to LePell, the show “mirrors the intersection between the public and private, representational and presentational forms,” and “combines poetic drama and realism.”

The show has been in development since the fall of 2011.

Auditioning is simple! Stop by building 700 to check out the “Particulate Matter” auditions first hand, or contact [email protected] for more information.

Through financial aid and hard work, you can always achieve your educational goals.

The first step is filling out your Federal Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), which can be found at http://www.fafsa.ed.gov or can be filled out in the financial aid office in building 700, next to admissions. All you need to get started is a copy of your most recent federal tax information and the online guide will take you step by step through the registration process.

According to the National Center for Education Statistics, nearly half of all undergraduate students in the United States receive aid from the government.

The Office of Federal Student Aid states that they give “more than $150 billion in federal grants, loans, and work-study funds each year to more than 15 million students paying for college or career school.”

Chabot’s website offers links to CLASS-Web, our online registration system as well as The Zone, which helps organize all campus information you need to know.

Still need help? Visit the Chabot financial aid office or Online Student Services (SOS) at http://www.chabotcollege.edu/finaid where you can assess your missing requirements, holds, financial aid award eligibility and can download and print all the forms you need to make your dreams of a degree a reality.
