PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE

2

Hello Fellow Rotarians,

I would like to thank all club members and their spouses who attended THE ROTARY FOUNDATION Gala at West Point on November 1. It was a special evening for fellowship to honor the many Rotarians within District 7210 for their contributions to OUR ROTARY FOUNDATION during the last year.

It is with great pride that I am able to report that OUR SPRING VALLEY ROTARY S.T.E.P. FOUNDATION is $200 richer having attended the West Point Gala. As your President, I listened intently to PDG Jeffrey Keahon and secured his $200 Rotary challenge. Our club thanks Jeffrey for his continued benevolence and financial support of the S.T.E.P. Program. Jeffrey has always provided a forum for S.T.E.P. when others were not so inclined. The $200 challenge winnings will assist in the construction costs of our 3rd School in Vietnam scheduled to be dedicated in late 2010.

Our club continues to thrive and we are moving forward because of you, our club members. We will have inducted our 4th new member, William Reinmuth by press time of this newsletter. A 5th new member is in the wings too!

The club members have been actively planning a number of upcoming events. We are seeking to resume our 3rd Grade Dictionary Program and we are presently seeking a corporate sponsorship for this program. Club members will be visiting the Ramapo Seniors on 11-18-09 to celebrate our annual pre-Thanksgiving luncheon visit. The Holiday Party will be held on 12-16-09 at the River Club in Nyack. We are hoping to have a great evening with Airmont Club members attending.

Lastly a Reminder to SAVE THE DATE, MARCH 6, 2010 SPRING VALLEY ROTARY’S 75TH ANNIVERSARY PARTY.

In closing, please remember to make a positive influence in the lives of the less fortunate during the upcoming annual holiday season. You can make a difference if you desire to do so. Yours in Rotary, Ed Frank

To: Mister Chief HOWARD GOLDIN

and all members of the Spring Valley Rotary Club

Greetings from Vietnam!

Mister Chief Howard Goldin,

How we can express our deep gratitude to you, Mister Chief Howard Goldin and all members of The Rotary Club for your kindness and charity helping us to serve the poor children in Viet Nam.

Thank you for your concern about us, but we, the children and the teachers are still living as the storms have regularly been very far from our school.

We are glad to inform to you that in this school-year we have 13 classes and 502 children and the water filtration system for children to use which you has helped to fit up for the Bong Hong kindergarten.

The water filtration system has been completed and we have to design water systems to classrooms, however, before put into use, drinking water must be tested at the Pasteur Institute in Ho Chi Minh City. The water from this system has been identified as clean water to drink, the Pasteur Institute - under the Ministry of Health – testing. October 21,2009 the system put into use, every day supply 2,000 liters of water, enough for students, teachers, the school staff and the sisters. This safe drinking water will provide basic necessities to keep the school running and to care for the children and the teachers also.

All of us, children, teachers and sisters would like to say thank you very much to you, Mister Howard Goldin and all members of The Spring Valley Rotary Club. Your financial support is very important for us, especially for the poor children in remote area at Tung Nghia, Lam Dong Province. Your co-operation do not lack. It helps us serve the ethnic children better. All children and teachers in the school drinking this water will be healthy and learn as well as teaching good.

Total cost is $ 91,900,000 VND ($5,254.44 USD). This is the price that the company has reduced service due to poor children. We also send some pictures to you the water system and the organ class.

We hope you all will be welcomed on a date not far in the Bong Hong school. God will bestow upon you all a life of good health, happiness and prosperity.

Yours respectfully,

Sr. Theresa Do Thi Minh Prioress General

A message from Spring Valley Rotary’s S.T.E.P. Board Member, Retired Police Chief William F. Franks:

Water purification system. 9,900,000 Dong (VND). Photo of children with clean drinking water. Priceless! What a gift. To see these children in a clean educational environment is heartwarming. To think that without the help of caring people, these children would probably spend the day in the fields with their families, uneducated, and little hope of changing their plight. To see them playing the keyboards and having the keyboards serve as an educational tool is amazing. If this isn't motivation to continue our works, I don't know what is. William Franks

Message from the Editor>

When we, the Spring Valley Rotary Club agreed to form S.T.E.P. in 2006, we made a commitment to make a difference, HANDS ON. Ed & I would like to thank our club, members and clubs of District 7210, Felix Festa Middle School, North Rockland Girl Scouts, Tappan Zee High School Interact Club and fellow Crossroads travelers. Our Club took the challenge and started working in a country that did not have a Rotary club, no matching grants. It was YOU our fellow humanitarians who opened your hearts, followed the motto of Service Above Self. We hope you look at the above photographs and realize the power of what you have and will accomplish. Believe in your projects, Service is the rent we pay for our room on earth. S.T.E.P. is a 501c3 all volunteer organization. 100% of what we collect goes directly towards our projects. Thank you for helping our KIDS.
