The President’s Desk We requested beautiful weather for the 19th Annual Cowtown Mopars Round-up and it was a beautiful day. We had 100 entries with 83 vehicles being judged and the remainder in the car corral or swap meet area. It is always a lot of work and a lot of fun. We had a very large num- ber of members help out with the show. I'm going to try and recognize everyone, but forgive me if I leave you off. We had so many volunteers that not everyone was utilized. That is a good problem to have, but not un- common for Cowtown Mopars. Next time I hope everyone gets to help out. It would not have been possible without your help. THANK YOU to: goody bag stuffers: Jim, Ken, Kelly, Gary, Stan, Bryan, Angie, Cassy and Mark---to cars movers out: Jim, Rich, Kelly, Ron, Ron, Richard and Mark---to cars movers in: Jim, Rich, Kelly, Ron, Ron, Ken, Mike, Mark, Dave and Betty---to Kelly for all his show preparations---to Bernie for all his show shopping---to Sandie, Bob and Julie for taking care of registration---to Willie, Ron, Ken and Richard for directing traffic---to Norma, Joy and Gary for club merchandise sales---to Ken and Ron for sound and entertainment---to everyone who participated in the 2 start your engines and make some noise (that was cool and still no word from the EPA)---Angie and Cassy for taking care of the raffle---to Nathan and his friend for taking care of the 50/50 tickets---to Susan for taking care of the coloring contest---to Bernie and Sandie for getting the cakes---to our cake servers---to Dan for taking care of the $---to all the members of our 2 judg- ing teams (Dave, Betty, Gene, Brad, Richard, Tony, Rich, Jim, Chuck, Tommy and Steve---to Beth for loading everything into a computer---to Ken for tabulating all the judging sheets---to Mike and Kelly for helping out in many ways throughout the day---to all the board members for their extra efforts---to your generosity in donations of door prizes---and to you for being a part of this year's show. Sorry if I forgot you. As you can tell it was a Cowtown Mopar Team effort, THANKS EVERYONE! We will do it again next year! Our sponsors help our show be a financial success every year and we are very thankful. We found out 5 days before the show that the location of the show would be moved from the main dealership to the pre-owned lot. This created a little bit of a scramble, but before the show started we knew this was going to be a better location for the show. It is strange how things work out sometimes and this was for the better. We also had a few vendors that did not show, but that is all part of the way things go, I guess. Which reminds me, Thanks to Texas Twist for providing the food for the show. Next year will be our 20th Cowtown Mopars Round-up and you won't want to miss it. Cowtown Mopars Race Team has started this year off with a BANG! Race team members have won 5 awards at Kennedale, 7 awards at Ennis and 5 awards at Rusk. Red light, I mean, Red Line is just a few days and I'm sure we will continue our winning ways. See ya at the track! May will not be as busy as April, but there is plenty to do. May 1st race at Red Line. May 7th you can go to the movies with the Dallas Mopar Club or go racing, Mopar against the world at Temple. Of course the monthly meeting and May 29th the picnic with Cowtown Mopars and the Dallas Mopar Club at River Legacy Park in Arlington from 8:30am to 3:30pm. I hope to see ya a lot this month. I am glad the month of April has come and gone! What a busy month it was. Car show, races, planning for the car show and races, driving to the car show and races...... and there is more to come! The turnout for the show was great and it was a beautiful, but windy day. We had several cars come in from out of town and out of state to attend this year. There were more "E" bodies at the show than they built I think! Just walking around and looking at them is proof enough that the members of the club have some of the best looking Mopars in the nation. Three down and six to go. So far, the club has proven that the racing team is going to be very hard to beat again this year. We had a good turnout at the Rusk race ( 1/4 of the total turnout! ) so with the 4 points for first round alone should move us farther away from the second place club. We have several racers that are going multiple rounds at each event and have had several winners also. Way to go Racing Team! May will be a more relaxed month for all of us. The Redline TMCCC race is on the 1st and the club picnic is on the 29th. Once again this year were are hav-ing a joint picnic with the Dallas Mopar Club. We had a great turnout last year, and this year we are looking for the same. They are planning some activities for eve-ryone to participate in so don't miss out! I know, I know..... where is all of the new stuff??? I'm working on it! Once I receive the photos that Billy Dennis took at the car show, I will have some very nice photos for the car show page. He took some very unique black and white photos and this young man has a very good eye for taking some awesome pictures. The club history sec-tion of the web site is still in the working stages and we are still looking for any photos you might have laying around in a shoe box that is from club functions. We also need some interesting stories too! If you find any photos or want to submit a short story or anything send them to me! Mike Miller, Webmaster

Hi everybody, It’s that time of the month again and we have a few events to tell you about. First up is the second Saturday cruise at Gene Quick’s shop on the 14th of May. The club is going to furnish the meat, drinks, and misc. utensils etc. We ask that you bring a side dish or a desert to go with it. We are going to change it up this month and have Bar-B-Q chicken breast and drumsticks. We are going to start again about 6:00 p.m. Hopefully we can have the thumb races that we had planned for last month, so we can find out who has the best reaction time. Bring your friends and their cars even if they are Brand X. Next is May 29th when we have our Dallas Mopar/Cowtown Mopar Clubs joint picnic. It starts at 8:30 a.m. and we have the park until 2:30 p.m. It is at River Legacy Park again at the Legacy Pavilion. Again the two clubs will furnish the food and we are planning a Poker Run for about 9: 30 a.m. so be there by then so you don’t miss it. It is always a lot of fun. Of course bring your ride and we will have a great selection of Mopars on display. There is always a car show there so don’t forget to wash it. Also our monthly meeting be there for sure because we have some surprises in store. I’m sure I’m leaving something out but that is all I can think of right now. Take care and I’ll see you at all the events!!! Gary Bradshaw, CMPT Activities Director

Car of the Month — May 2005 Sam Jeffus’ 1973 Duster

My Mopar roots go back to the late ’70s, when I was given a 1970 Plymouth Sport Fury as my very first car. The Fury had a 383 Commando motor, and could eas-ily smoke the rear tires thanks to the excessive power the car possessed. After 3 years of burnouts & daily driving, I parted company with the Sport Fury, and drifted over to GM, where I spent 20 years restoring, showing, and racing several Chevys and a Pontiac. Still, I never forgot about my Sport Fury and knew one day I’d come back to Mopars. That day finally arrives last year when I traded titles for this ‘73 Duster 340. In the short time since acquiring this car, it has become the best Muscle Car I have ever owned. The Duster came from Columbus, Ohio, where it had spent its entire life since it was driven off of the Dealership’s lot as a new car! It was purchased new at Westland Chrysler/Plymouth on November 2, 1972 for $3,676.92 as listed on the original Bill of Sale and other dealership papers that came with the car. The Duster has the HP 340 engine, with upgrades in cam, intake, stall converter, carb, headers, manual valve body 727, and is backed up with a 4.10 gear set. Since recently joining CMPT, I am looking forward to showing, cruising, and racing with the Club! I really am looking forward to helping out with the 4th straight TMCCC trophy! Sam Jeffus
