• As of September 2012,there were 25,000 EVssold in the UnitedStates, according todata fromWardsauto.com.

• This is almost triple the9,428 that were sold atthe same point lastyear.

EV Sales: The National StoryEV Sales Triple Over Last Year

Hybrids

• In 2001, the second full year of hybrid sales in the U.S., there were 20,300 Honda Insight and Toyota Prius units.

• This means that in only 8 months, EVs have beaten 12 months worth of sales of hybrids in a comparable period.

• Although Leaf sales have been down compared to last year, keep in mind it now faces competition from 5 other pure electrics (see Union of Concerned Scientists figure below). Total BEV sales are actually about the same as they were last year

The National Story: Get the FACTs!

• Chevy Volt sales have increased by about a factor of four so far over the same 8 months as last year.

• The new Plug-in Prius has almost doubled the sales of the Volt from the same time last year.

• Together, the Volt and Plug-in Prius represent almost 20,000 units sold so far this year.

Patience, and remember to check the data!

The market is evolving and we are ahead of the

hybrid’s adoption pace. This is a testament to the progress made thus far.

EVs are an entirely different paradigm and require a shift in the way we think about the traveling/refueling experience.
