Welcome
Thank you for being here for worship this Sunday! Our mission at First Church is to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world. We are inspired by the words of John Wesley, the founder of Methodism, who encouraged believers to “do all the good you can, in all the ways you can.”

ADVENT Clean-up day
Tuesday, January 3, 2017
The work begins at 8:30 am in the sanctuary.
If you enjoyed the beautiful decorations
during Advent and would like to help out by
packing everything up and storing away
until next year, please come for an hour or
two or more! Last year, the clean-up team
was finished in record time and on the way
home by lunchtime—many hands make
light work. Hope to see your smiling faces
on Tuesday!
LITTLE CHURCH
Sunday, January 8, 2017
We are excited to announce the opening of a
new area for our Little Church children.
Beginning January 8, 2017 we will be meeting
upstairs in room 201. If your child is a Little
Church participant, all drop off and pick up
will take place in room 201. This location will
offer a common space for both our traditional
and Anew service children to meet, play, and
grow in their relationship with Christ. If you are
interested in being a volunteer for our 2017
Little Church please contact Emily Kirby at
HAPPY NEW YEAR I would like to take the time to thank the staff, the choir, the praise band, our pianist/organist, and
all the laity who made the Christmas Services such a blessing for so many. Even though we had the
largest number of worshipers in many years, you handled it smoothly with gentle grace and with a
bright smile. Countless people pulled me to the side following the Christmas Eve service, just to let
me know how much they enjoyed the services and how friendly First UMC is. Many of them had
already attended one of the other two earlier services, but returned at 6:30. We had a retired
Anglican Bishop join us for worship at 6:30 and said to me following the service (to use his words to
describe it), “profoundly meaningful and spirit lifting!” The Christmas morning service was also
well attended.
We have a very talented and dedicated staff whose heart seeks what is best for First Church. We
also have a committed group of laity who want to be servants rather than the one served. Both not
only represent First Church well but also the Kingdom of God in Myrtle Beach. Both are a sacred sign
of God’s grace among us.
Thank you and may 2017 bless you as much as you bless us with your servant’s heart.

Thank you to all who came caroling with
the group on Sunday evening
(December 18) into the Northwood
Community of Myrtle Beach! My
neighbors were as delighted as I was to
go to the door and see a yard filled with
smiling faces and hear the festive music
of the season. I was literally speechless
and overwhelmed with hope and joy as I
stood in my yard and received this
blessing. I love each and every one of
