ENGLISH BACCALAUREATEThis is an extra qualification that students willreceive should they get a C grade and above inMaths, English, Science, a Humanities subject ( currently Geography or History) and a ForeignLanguage (French or Spanish)There is no extra exam to take- it is givenautomatically

GCSEs• GCSEs are offered by all schools in a range of
subjects• GCSEs mainly involve theoretical study, but with
some investigative work. In some subjects they involve elements of practical work
• GCSEs are usually assessed through a mixture of coursework and examinations
• GCSEs are awarded from A* through to G
BTECs / OCR Nationals• BTECs and OCR Nationals have equivalence to 2 GCSEs • Courses support vocational learning and understanding
of the world of work, with an emphasis upon skills• Pupils are assessed upon their completion of portfolios
[or coursework] which evidence their understanding• Pupils can benefit from continual assessment instead
of testing at the end of the course• Awarded at Pass, Merit, Distinction and Distinction*
