Don’t spend every day
of first year in Bar Twenty10.
Check the sales aisle and racks
first! Try places like B&M
Bargains and Home Bargains,
the food in there is much cheaper.
If you’re going to be using the
train a lot, get a rail card.
Always buy a pizza with pre-
drinks for the next day to avoid
the need to get a takeaway.
Try going to the market for
fresh fruit, veg and meat, it’s
normally way cheaper than the
supermarkets.
Stock up the freezer.
Most food and drink is cheaper at the SU shop. Go to a supermarket or shop
before going to the cinema and
buy your popcorn and sweets
from there.
Find out how much student
loan you will receive and
then work out how many
expenses you have (rent
bills, phone bills etc.) and
put that money in an online
saving account- the money
left over is your living money
for food socializing etc. Divide
by how many weeks you’ll be
at uni & each week take that
money out in cash - don’t use
your bank card for purchases
unlessabsolutely necessary!!

Getting to know…money saving tips
“When I’m in Manchester my favourite things to do are to go shopping at the Trafford
centre, visit some of the amazing cocktail bars, go to the northern quarter and if it’s sunny, relax at The Shack on Salford quays. But there’s just so much to do in Manchester you really need to
explore it for yourself!”Chloe Ainscough
