Preparing for Baptism: Joel Russell-MacLean Minister: Following His resurrection, Jesus commanded His

disciples to go and make disciples of all nations,

baptizing them in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.

Congregation: In obedience to Christ, and in joyful thanks for

God’s redeeming love, we gather to baptize the ones whom the Spirit has led to repentance

and faith.

Minister: Jesus was baptized in the river Jordan, and still disciples are called to follow Jesus Christ through

the waters of baptism, to be buried and raised in union with Him.

Congregation: Here is the grace of God: washed free of sin, disciples of Jesus are immersed into all that

God has done in Christ and all that He promises to do through His Spirit.

Minister: Let us Pray:

All: Almighty God, Our Father: we give You thanks

for Your Son, Jesus the Christ, Who was baptized in the river Jordan. We praise You

that after His death, You raised Him to life and exalted Him. Send Your Holy Spirit, we

pray, that these baptisms may be for Your servants a union with Christ in His death and

resurrection, so that as Jesus was raised

from death through the glory of the Father,

they also might be raised to newness of life. Lord Jesus Christ: As these your servants

declare their love and loyalty to You, be present, we pray, to declare Your love and

loyalty to them. Holy Spirit: be pleased to anoint these four who are baptized for service

that they may grow into the likeness of Jesus

Christ, in whose name we pray. Amen.

Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give

Kept the folded grave-clothes where Thy body lay.

“Music is one of the ways we make sense of our lives, one of the ways in which we express feelings when we have no words, a way for us to understand things with our hearts when we cannot with our minds.”

LEARNING FOR LIFE – SUNDAYS, 9:30-10:30 A.M.

Spiritual Disciplines: Creating Space for God Facilitator: Ron Phillips April 10-May 29, 9:30-10:30 a.m.

Spiritual disciplines are intentional practices that serve as a means or a channel for God’s grace to flow into our lives. They put us in a place where God can more easily deal with us. They are not ends in themselves, but a means to an end, that of experiencing a life-changing relationship with God.

In this class we will take a fresh look at familiar disciplines like prayer and Scripture reading, and at less familiar disciplines like simplicity, silence, service, and spiritual friendship.

If you feel an ache to know Christ more deeply, or wish to have a desire for Christ awakened, or simply feel a little ‘stale’ in your walk with Christ, come. These ancient time-tested practices will carve out a path for a steady walk with the Triune God, if you dare walk it.

Each class will be relatively independent of the previous classes, so come even if you must miss some weeks. A deeper relationship with God and with His people awaits.

“Why Not Women?” By Loren Cunningham & David Joel Hamilton Facilitators: Colin Carbno & Marilyn Phillips April 10-May 15, 9:30-10:30 a.m.

This interactive class is based on the above book, and the N.T. Scriptures it discusses. Both authors have extensive background in missions, and their passion for the gospel is evident from the opening page:

“I have a dream of a spiritual awakening sweeping the world through this emerging generation…As I envision this, I see every little girl growing up knowing she is…made in the image of God…and that she can fill all the potential He has put within her. I see the body of Christ recognizing leaders whom the Holy spirit has gifted, anointed and empowered without regard to race, colour or gender. This new generation…will take a fresh look at the Word of God, knowing that the Holy Spirit will never do anything that contradicts His Word. As this emerging generation studies the Bible free of cultural blinders, they will see that the Lord has always used both women and men to proclaim the Good News and to prophesy the Word of God to their generation.”

BAPTIST WORLD ALLIANCE EASTER MESSAGE 2016

The BWA, which represents 42 million people, was formed in London, England, in 1905. It is the largest organization of Baptist congregations in the world. The following is the text of the 2016 BWA Easter Message from the Rev. D. Neville Callum.

Good Friday brings to a climax the story of the incredible humiliation of God. The Divine One, who left the heavenly home and became a human being in Jesus Christ, suffered the ignominy of death by crucifixion. Impaled upon a cross, He revealed to us the depth of our sinfullness and the extent to which God will go for the sake of our salvation.

The crucified One was laid in a place of burial. Three days later, he rose from the dead, providing the foundation for our courageous life and our confident hope. God raised from the chaos of death the One who faced the utter desolation of abandonment. And God did this on behalf of humanity and all creation.

Easter is a metaphor for the destruction of the power of death and a sign of new birth, new life and new possibilities. It provides us with a reminder of God’s way of lifting up the fallen, liberating the oppressed and giving peace to the weary.

It is by no means surprising that, from the earliest years, Easter Day was a time for baptism. Those who are immersed into Christ are buried with him in the waters of baptism and are raised up with Him to a new realm. Led from the baptismal grave, they see things in a new light; they discern from a new perspective their encounter with God’s grace whichleads them to life in a new dimension.

The baptismal life we are called to live involves a cycle of dying and rising with Christ. We know the depth of pain that is part and parcel of our earthly environment and we know the heights of grace that we can see only with the resurrection eyes. For us, God makes all things new.

When evil has done its worst, God’s power and love remain a bulwark against hopelessness. We set our sights on high and then the things of the world lose both their allure and their sting. We are empowered by courageous faith because, risen with Christ, the life that is now within us is the eternal life that nothing in the world can destroy.

The Regina Philharmonic Chorus & Symphony invite you to a sacred concert Saturday, April 2, 8:00 p.m. at Knox-Metropolitan United Church. With Mendelssohn’s Hymn of Praise and Bach’s Cantata 29. Tickets available at Cobb Swanson Music, Bach and Beyond or at the door. General $30.00; Student $15.00; under 12; $5.00.
