What is the Sunderland Compact?

• An agreement between organisations of the Sunderland Partnership and VCS organisations

• Based on the existing national Compact– Volunteering– Voluntary and Community Groups– Funding and Procurement– Consultation and Policy Appraisal– Older People – Disabilities– Other Equalities codes under development

What’s the purpose of the Sunderland Compact?

• To improve partnership working by:– Building trust– Improving quality– Increasing efficiency

• Improved outcomes for citizens• Recognises the unique contribution of individual

partners• Local flexibility

What’s been happening?

• Final development and consultation• Sunderland Partnership endorsement – June 2008• Partner sign up• 255 organisations received invite letters directly from

the Sunderland Partnership• Widely distributed through CVS and SCN• 52 organisations signed up and many more have

indicated their intention to sign up• Good practice and building relationships• Collaborative working
