THE SUNFLOWER SCRIBBLES Kansas Society Children of the American Revolution Winter 2017
FROM YOUR STATE PRESIDENT
The wonderful Christmas season of peace,
love and joy brought such happiness and love
to families who have lost loved ones in serving
our great country. I am proud to say that
K.S.C.A.R. represented these attributes well at
the Wreaths Across America Ceremony at the
Fort Leavenworth National Cemetery this past
December. On that freezing, snowy day, we
laid 700 more wreaths due to our commitment
and dedication to supporting the Wreaths
Across America organization. We made a
difference!
During this past season, I am proud to
communicate more incredible work done by the
Lone Elm Campground Society, who organized
a memorial for the Four Chaplains at the
Veterans Memorial Park in Olathe, Kansas.
The service was conducted by the Society Vice
President, Samuel Hulsey. Many attended
lending their support to the importance of Lone
Elm Campground’s efforts. Those in
attendance were Dewey Fry of the Delaware
Crossing S.A.R.,
Gayle Hoyt the Kansas State Senior President,
C.A.R., Hannah Ehmcke the National
Chaplain, C.A.R., Kathryn West the Kansas
State Regent, D.A.R. and Kimberly Patrick,
Kansas State Recording Secretary, D.A.R.
The Lone Elm Campground Society
exemplifies K.S.C.A.R. in Action!
Over the President’s Day weekend, the Kansas
Society Sons of the American Revolution
honored our first President, George
Washington at their Thirty First Annual George
Washington Birthday Celebration. It was a
beautiful luncheon at the Ritz Charles in
Overland Park, KS with a well received guest
speaker, Dr. Kurt Graham the director of the
Harry S Truman Library and Museum. The
SAR awarded Kathryn Walker West the
Kansas State Regent, D.A.R. with their SAR
Medal of Appreciation, Steven Howe the
District Attorney for Johnson County, KS their
Law Enforcement Commendation Medal and
Dr. Kurt Graham their Silver Good Citizenship
Medal. The luncheon was preceded by a
Share Fair in which we were invited to have a
K.S.C.A.R. information table. Paige Neumann
of the Lone Elm Campground Society and
Maggie Alvidrez of the Santa Fe Trail Society
joined me at the table representing K.S.C.A.R.
In closing, I am more and more excited about
K.S.C.A.R. in Action in our community! We are
looking forward to our Seventy First State
Conference on March 25, 2017 in Topeka. It
will be held at the Shawnee County Public
Library located at 1515 SW 10th. We will be
preparing care packages for Rob Hughes the
KMBC Channel 9 reporter and his unit who are
stationed in the Ukraine. I look forward to
seeing everyone on March 25!

National Theme "Freedom's Thunder" National Project "Siege of Yorktown:
Actions that Lead to Victory"
The National Project is to raise funds for a new enhanced outdoor interpretive program – Artillery and Firing Station that will feature education on the siege of Yorktown and firing demonstrations of cannon at the new American Revolution Museum at Yorktown (ARMY).
In the course of our nation’s history there are landmark events that initiate a period of evolution for our republic. Only one holds the distinct claim to final liberation of our citizens from an oppressive rule. A battle that shook the foundation of the world’s ruling governments, set the stage for the beginning of a new independent nation, and bestowed
liberty upon its citizens for all time. The Victory at the battle of Yorktown was the start of our new nation and set the stage for the laurels of freedom that we hold dear. Please join me in making some noise to inspire, to awaken, and to remind people of the freedom that we cherish and refuse to take for granted. Together we can take the nation by storm with our message of freedom.
