In this issue, the names of informative publications will supplement the information that has been supplied in earlierissuesof the Tattler . The next issue will contain the names and inter- ests of resource people, including University of Hawaii faculty. Before we getinto the 'pot ofgold', however, lets take care of some old but important business. BACKTRACKING After a number of Wednesday evening meetings, leaders in Hawaii's Chinese taro industry have come up with a bag-tag to go on their 50 pound bags of export QUAUTY taro. This 31/8" x 61/4" tag (shown reduced below) with its reinforced string hole will feature green printing (to match the green shipping bags) on yellow stock. The design is that of talented Hilo artist Kathryn Godshall who has learned more about taro in the past 6 weeks thenshe evercould have imagined. With an initial order of about 35,000tags the averagecost per tag is to be about 4.5 cents each, just about what is paid for plain white tags at local stationary stores. It is hoped that with more product identification Hawaii taro farmers may be able to increase their share of the Mainland fresh taro market. However, QUALfIYis again the watch-word as everybit of junk taro that makesit to the Mainlanddefeats the efforts of the industry as a whole.
